Hello and welcome to the Guanyin Meditation with Salala Tauler.
Guanyin,
Who in the West is called Kuanyin,
In China Guanyin,
Is the goddess or the bodhisattva of mercy and compassion.
Her full name is Guanshirin Pusa,
Which means she who hears the cries of the world.
Interestingly enough,
This goddess Guanyin started out as a male deity called Avalokiteshvara in India and Tibet,
But once he moved into China,
He eventually took on more feminine attributes and comes down to history through China and also Japan where she is also a female deity.
Now Guanyin represents the compassionate nature of the universe,
The compassionate motherly attributes of love,
Support,
Strength,
Joy,
Acceptance,
And healing.
And even though Guanyin is actually a Buddhist deity,
Many of the Taoist temples that I've been to in China also contain a statue or a painting of Guanyin.
Usually when you see a painting or a statue of Guanyin,
You'll see there's two aspects.
Often she has white robes and things like that,
But in one hand she holds a vase and the vase is full of healing nectar.
The other hand holds a small sprig of willow branch and the idea is that when she does hear the cries of the world,
The cries of someone who is suffering,
She dips the willow branch into the vase and then sprays that or drips that,
Drops that onto the suffering person.
So in this meditation,
We will be invoking this image,
This energy of Guanyin in order to help heal ourselves of our problems,
Our issues,
Our challenges.
And as in many of the other meditations and classes I've done here on Insight about the Taoist tradition,
We're using what we call our mind intent or simply some people may call it imagination.
In Taoist Qigong tradition,
We have a saying,
Imagination becomes reality.
The idea is that at first we're using our imagination to move Qi or summon deities,
But eventually it becomes very,
Very real.
So when we do this practice,
Realize that at first we're using our imagination,
But it becomes very,
Very real and you can actually obtain healing energy this way from the goddess,
The goddess who hears the cries of the world.
So we're going to do a little meditation and then we'll just chant for a few minutes her full mantra.
So as we have done many times before,
Sitting in your chair,
Feet flat on the floor,
Or sitting on your cushion,
Or standing on the earth,
We close our eyes,
Put the tip of our tongue to the roof of our mouth,
Breathing in and out of our nose,
Breathing into lower dantian,
Feeling as we inhale that we are not only inhaling air and oxygen,
We are actually inhaling Qi from the air around us,
From the stars,
From the sun,
From the earth,
From all the plants that live on this beautiful planet of ours.
So let's just take nine deep,
Slow,
Gentle breaths just to kind of focus ourselves.
Now what we're going to do is see,
Feel,
Experience an image of this beautiful goddess of mercy and compassion,
She who hears the cries of the world,
Sitting just above our head in sort of the ethereal world.
And see here in your mind's eye,
Smiling down upon you,
See her take her willow twig and dip it into the vase of healing nectar,
And pour that healing nectar right over the top of our head.
In Daoism we call the bai hui point,
In yoga called the crown chakra.
So as she is smiling down upon us and dripping the healing nectar through the top of our head,
Feel it course,
Spread,
Flow into our entire body.
Feel it coursing,
Flowing through your whole body and being.
And either where that you have pain or stress or anxiety or disease or toxicity or stress,
Feel those places begin to let go and soften a little bit.
And just feel and see and experience her standing,
Floating really,
Just above your head as a real being.
You know,
Guan Yin is a real being.
Thousands if not millions of people have been worshiping her and working with her energy for thousands of years,
All over China,
Japan,
Tibet,
India.
So just allow yourself to receive.
You don't have to do anything.
You don't have to try to make anything happen.
You don't try to force anything to happen.
You merely allow it to happen.
So let's take 21 slow,
Deep,
Gentle breaths,
Feeling this healing nectar of Guan Yin,
She who hears the cries of the world,
Flowing down,
Filling our whole body and being.
And now let's spend a few minutes chanting the name of Guan Yin,
The mantra,
Which goes Namo Guan Sher Yin Pusa.
So please chant this with me.
It'll make it more interesting.
Thank you for attending this little offering of mine.
And remember that you can call upon Guan Sher Yin anytime you are needing comfort or healing.
You know,
The universe itself,
Lao Tzu in his book,
The Tao Te Ching,
Calls the Tao the great mother.
And this image,
Instead of like in some religions where the deity is considered a wrathful man,
Um,
In Buddhism and Taoism,
The universe itself is seen more of a compassionate,
Feminine nature.
And of course,
Many other cultures,
Mother Mary,
Tara,
White Buffalo Calf Woman,
The Black Madonna,
A lot of these images and experiences that people are having with the universe of experiencing and calling upon the compassionate,
Loving,
Accepting nature of the universe into our own body and being,
Into our emotional self,
Our psychic self,
Our psychological self,
Our spiritual self,
Our emotional self.
These are all ways to connect with Source.
Source with a capital S.
Source as the compassionate mother of the universe,
Who in one of her forms is the beautiful Lady Guan Sher Yin Pu Sa.
