It's the Great Mother Meditation.
In chapter 20 of the Dao De Ching,
We find this passage.
Other people have much while I possess nothing.
I appear like a fool.
Other people are clear while I alone am confused.
Other people are clever while I seem dull.
Everyone else has things to do while I appear thick-headed and stupid.
Yet,
I am different from the others because I am nourished by the Great Mother.
A contemporary Daoist master Hua Ching-ni says,
Before a human being enters the physical plane to become individualized,
He or she resides in the cosmic womb of nature.
In some respects,
This is analogous to the experience of being a fetus in the womb of one's physical mother.
While contained in your mother's womb,
You are one with her.
Whatever your mother experienced,
You also experienced.
In the process of birth,
You became separated from your mother.
Your direct communication to her was cut.
Similarly,
Before being born into this plane,
We were one with nature and thus with universal law.
After being born into the physical plane,
We must rediscover universal law and restore our innate spiritual ability.
By so doing,
We reestablish our direct connection with nature,
The cosmic mother of the universe.
So here's a little meditation that can help connect us to the Great Mother.
Sit or lie down and begin your deep,
Slow Dantian breathing.
Don't try to make anything happen.
Don't try to feel anything special.
Don't try to see anything special.
Feel your navel just above your lower Dantian as being connected in a very real and energetic way to the Great Mother of us all.
Feel an energetic umbilical cord connecting you with your source.
Allow yourself to begin feeling a flow of energy between you and your original mother,
What Hua Qing-ni calls the cosmic womb of nature.
Sense this,
What this mother feels and experiences,
You also feel and experience.
Draw deep sustenance from this connection.
As you experience the state of being a baby in the womb of the Great Mother,
Feel how well you are fed by her.
Draw on her strength and fill yourself with her power.
Know that you are always connected to her,
Whether or not you are aware of it.
Know that as a child of the Great Mother,
You are always and forever supported and loved.
Feel the sense of being connected with the universal mother all the way down to your bones,
Through your whole body and with your heart and with your mind.
And feel it as a real thing,
Not just an imaginary thing,
But as a very real thing because it is very real.
Feel how her wisdom guides and protects you.
Don't be afraid to be different from the crowd.
Don't be afraid to appear as a fool to others for not racing after the things the rest of the world races after.
Don't be afraid to feel lost and tossed about in the winds from time to time.
You can always remind yourself to reconnect to the mother at any time,
She is always there for you.
And now to take it on another step.
In this part of the meditation,
We will become the primal mother,
Giving birth to our new selves.
Again,
Breathe slowly and deeply,
Filling your lower dantian with breath,
Energy,
Chi,
Oxygen.
Feel your abdomen expanding and contracting.
Feel yourself becoming filled with chi and spirit as though you were pregnant with the child.
Envision yourself as a mother giving birth to a new version of yourself.
We all have an aspect of the great mother within us,
Even if we are male.
In Daoist internal alchemy practice or Nei Dan,
We picture ourselves communicating and delivering a new self or a new spirit.
We are the mother of the great mother,
The mother of the great mother.
And delivering a new self,
What they sometimes call the golden embryo,
The Sheng Tai.
So in this practice,
What we're doing is birthing ourselves as a new self,
As a more whole,
More harmonious,
More healthy,
More energetic,
More creative,
More loving self.
Welcome this new version of yourself with love.
Feed it with your good intentions and you wish to become a strong,
Clarified,
Balanced person,
Spiritually,
Emotionally,
Physically.
Ask yourself,
What old stale parts of you do you need to let go of in order to be born anew?
What old patterns can you let go of so your true self can shine through?
How can you connect in a deep and real way to the primal mother of us all?
Feel yourself as a mother giving birth constantly and eternally.
This is your Tao self and it is real as anything you can see in the world around you,
If not more so.
Allow yourself the time to really experience yourself as this primal mother,
Giving life and love to those around you as well as to yourself.
Think about what kind of gifts you wanna bring with you as you birth your new self.
What kind of new joys,
New creativity,
New expressions of your inner being that you want to share with the world in your new self as you are birthed by the great mother and as you give birth as the great mother to your new self.
And as usual to end the meditation,
Rub your palms together briskly 36 times.
And then place your palms over your eyes,
Breathe the warmth sub of your Lao Gong up into your eyes.
Now rotate your eyeballs nine times one direction and then nine times the other.
And then rub your face gently up and down to bring yourself out of the meditation.
It is extremely important you do not cut off these meditative and energetic states once you get up off your cushion.
Keep them going throughout your day and throughout your life.
Try to bring some of this experience of the primal mother into the rest of your life.
