Welcome to Wake Up Meditation with Laurie Kegg Morale.
Meditating in the morning before you start any activity may be challenging for some,
Especially if you have early morning obligations or are not an early morning person.
However,
The benefits of skipping the snooze or setting the alarm ten minutes early can be found in an early morning mood boost and sets the tone for a calmer day.
You can stay in bed for this meditation,
But I suggest sitting up,
Perhaps propped by your pillows,
To avoid falling back asleep.
You may also move to your favorite meditation spot.
Now let's meditate.
Take a few moments to settle in and get comfortable.
And if you haven't done so already,
Closing your eyes.
Or if you prefer,
Keep them gently capped with a downward gaze.
Let's take a few long,
Slow,
Deep breaths.
Filling your lungs with air and releasing all of the air with your exhale.
And when you've completed your long,
Slow,
Deep breaths,
Perhaps engage in some gentle stretching to prepare your body for this early morning meditation.
And now I invite you to bring your awareness to your breath.
This is a bare,
Soft awareness,
Following the fullness of your inhale and exhale.
And in your own time,
Scan your body from head to toe.
And as you scan,
Notice with curiosity any sensations,
Pulsing,
Tingling,
Perhaps warmth or coolness.
Noticing without any judgment or any story.
Having an awareness of your body this morning.
And as you scan,
You may notice the early morning sounds in your environment.
Birds chirping,
Cars,
Sounds in your house.
Simply notice these sounds and acknowledge them as the beginning of a new day.
And when you've completed your body scan,
Return to your breath as your focus.
And you may want to add a silent mantra,
Repeating the word in with each inhale and out with your exhale.
Or perhaps,
Thank you for this new day.
And should your mind wander,
Perhaps,
To your dream world from last night,
Or thoughts of the upcoming day,
Notice your wandering mind and return to your breath and your mantra.
And if you're using a mantra,
You can let go of the words or phrases.
And continue sitting for a few more moments,
Following your breath,
Having an awareness of the environment around you.
And when you hear the sound of the bell signaling the end of meditation,
Take your time to slowly come out of meditation.
Gently stretching and coming back into the space.
Thank you for meditating with me this morning.
Have a glorious day.
