With singing,

We want to breathe in through our mouth.

So let's take in a yawn breath,

And hold the breath,

Wide chest,

Yawn breath,

And let's say an oh,

Oh,

Yawn breath.

As we say oh,

Keep the chest wide as you sing the oh,

Oh.

You might feel your belly button coming in towards the spine as you sing and hold and sustain the oh sound,

That's good.

Let's breathe in with a yawn breath again.

Keep the chest wide as you sing the oh,

Oh,

Yawn breath.

Now let's say an ee,

Same thing,

Ee.

You might feel yourself crescendoing,

Increasing volume as you do the ee.

Let's do a yawn breath and we'll do the same note,

Ee,

Like you're saying easy.

Let's try a yawn breath,

Ee.

Let's go up a little bit.

Now we're going to do the same thing on an ooh one more time.

So yawn breath and on an ooh,

Like the word food,

Right,

So breathe in.

Try to relax the lips,

They don't necessarily have to be in an ooh,

Rounded lip shape.

Yawn breath,

Try that ooh one more time,

Wide chest as you hold the note,

Belly button going in towards the spine,

Yawn,

Ooh.

Now all voices,

High and low,

We're going to work on our head voice or falsetto sounds and it's going to be up here.

Feel free to let some vibrato into the sound where the voice kind of waves a little bit.

So this is very light,

Very free,

No strain,

No stress on the outer external muscles of the throat.

So when you breathe in with that yawn breath,

We want to breathe in no tension.

Let's try it,

Ooh.

Same thing on an ooh,

Relax the lips.

When you breathe in with your yawn breath,

Really feel that there's no stress,

There's no sound,

Right,

We don't want to make a sound at all when we breathe in.

Think about a silent breath,

Let the cool air pass down the throat.

So we breathe in on our yawn and we sing an ooh.

So we have two different registers that we've worked on so far,

Our chest register which is a little lower and our head voice register which is a little bit higher.

Both registers are important.

Both registers provide emotional meaning.

As you're sustaining these notes,

As I mentioned,

Keep the chest wide in all directions,

Side to side,

Front to back,

Sternum to spine,

You know,

Rib cage,

Left and right.

And as you breathe in,

Keep that wide and as you exhale,

As you're sustaining the note,

Keep the chest open and up and let the belly draw in.

Let's practice a yawn breath right now.

Hold the rib cage out,

Soft throat,

Keep holding and exhale.

Let the belly bounce back,

Thereby allowing the lungs to inflate quickly.

Let's try that again.

So yawn,

Inhale,

And let's try it on an ooh,

Ooh,

Inhale.

As you're holding,

Feel the expansion of the rib cage of the chest in a big circular keg-shaped structure.

Notice how the belly and the chest are separate and exhale.

Quick inhale with the belly,

Hold,

Keep the structure open of the chest,

Shoulders relaxed and low.

Breathe out on an S,

Feel the belly button coming towards the spine and inhale.

Thank you for joining me today.

Keep breathing.
