I'm Marley.
Thank you for joining me wherever you are.
All that I ask of you,
The listener,
Is to have an open mind and an open heart.

I offer you myself.
Today we're going to talk about change and learning to pivot in life and embracing who you are and unlearning who you were taught to be.
We first talked about embracing change back in episode 14.
Today we are revisiting this topic and diving deeper to help us free ourselves and come into our own truth.
And we're also going to talk about our relationship to the spirit world and universe and how trusting the guidance from spirit can help us get there.
Here to guide us on this journey today is Mary Beth Thompson.
Mary Beth is an intuitive life coach and medium.

Thank you.
So Mary Beth,
To start off today,
Can you please share with us your story,
Your journey to where you are today?
Absolutely.
So I went to college to get a degree in communications.
I love to connect with people.
I love to learn about people's stories.
And I ended up getting a job at an NBC affiliate in my town.
And it turned out that I was something called an empath.
And I didn't know that there was language to describe what I was,
Which was a very sensitive soul.
And so in the news industry,
You may have heard the term,
If it bleeds,
It leads.
And so I quickly learned that I was way too sensitive for such tragic,
Heart-wrenching stories.
So I pivoted to getting into marketing,
Again,
Stayed with the communications.
And because I felt like I wanted to make a difference and I wanted to positively impact other people's lives,
I tried to stay mostly within nonprofits and charities in the healthcare industry.
So I did that for the last two decades.
And I also spent a lot of time in my private personal time doing a lot of personal developments,
Following thought leaders,
Reading books,
Just really investing my time and energy into positive psychology.
And over the years,
People would say,
Mary Beth,
You'd be such a good life coach.
And it just didn't resonate with me.
I took it as a compliment,
But it just didn't click.
And then in,
I want to say it was around 2020,
Of course,
When all of us had major life changes and a lot of shifting with the pandemic starting,
I was taking a book writing course with James Van Praagh,
Who is a world-renowned medium.
And it was through that experience that I had this kind of awakening or knowing that it was time to look into it.
So I had many,
Many signs,
Lots of serendipity messages that came through that it was time.
And so over the course of the next year or so,
I took certifications and trainings to become a spiritual intuitive life coach.
And it was literally a week before I was launching my business to become a life coach that I had another kind of nudge from the universe that I should offer intuitive psychic slash medium services.
And so literally that was never in my business plan,
My game plan.
But we can talk about that more,
But I decided to add that to my portfolio of services.
And today it is now the majority of what I do is I do intuitive sessions for clients.
So yeah,
That's in a nutshell,
The last couple of decades.
Wow.
Thank you so much for sharing your story,
Mary Beth.
There's a lot to unpack here.
I guess my first question is,
What did you have to release along the way in order to step into this new and truer version of yourself?
So that's a great question.
So I didn't mention over just kind of skimming through my professional career that I was a closeted medium.
And I kept that private in the sense I only shared it with my friends,
My closest friends and my immediate family and my boyfriend,
Who's now my husband.
So they were the only ones that knew spirit will come through to me very often.
And I kept it private,
I think because another important note is that I was raised in the Catholic Church.
And so there is a little bit of shame and quite a bit of judgment in that capacity.
And so I think to answer your question,
I had to overcome the opinions of others who maybe didn't agree or just really didn't understand,
I think is really what it comes from.
A lot of times people are fearful when they just don't understand.
So I had to just kind of go through,
I would say life experiences and get to a place where I needed to release the opinions and judgment of others,
And really own my authenticity of who I am.
And my ability to hear from and communicate with spirit is like breathing.
It's it's so natural.
And it's just something that you do that you don't even question,
If that makes sense.
So how could I possibly deny something that is innately a part of who I am?
Wow,
I got like emotional.
You're talking about that.
Did you have to release any fear as well in order to step into this role and say,
Hi,
I'm a medium to the world?
100% there was I would say,
Like,
There was two almost chapters to me.
And I'm using the phrase coming out,
Because that's really how it felt.
It felt like I had this secret.
And then I came out.
The first was when I told you I took that class,
The book writing class,
And I had this revelation that I needed it.
Basically,
What it was was I felt like I had an ability.
And the the awareness was that I needed to be able to positively affect more people.
So if I only kept it to my closest community,
I was leaving out many,
Many,
Many other people who could benefit from my ability to share information from their loved ones in spirit.
So that was my first kind of getting over the fear of saying,
This no longer needs to be a secret.
This is no longer about me,
Frankly,
You know,
It's about helping other people.
And the second,
The second fear releasing was when I made it part of my business.
I did this for 20 years off the record,
In my free time in my personal space.
No one was,
You know,
Hiring me to do this.
People were,
People were not asking me to be a conduit,
I just was passing it along.
So then to be able to just sit down and be asked to share a message in a reading on someone's hard earned money for me to,
To deliver those messages and do it on demand is a completely different energy.
So there was a fear in that.
And I actually did a session for a dear friend of mine when I was a child,
When she,
When I was a child,
She was my dear friend.
And so I connected with her dad and it was absolutely incredible.
And that was the validation I needed to know,
Okay,
Yeah,
This is meant to be,
And I'm supposed,
I'm supposed to offer this to people.
So I kind of,
That was like a test run to me and it was,
It was beautiful.
Hmm.
I love that.
And I just want to say like change,
Making these big decisions and pivots that you've had to make so many times in your life always comes with fear,
Especially because our ego hates change and hates the unknown,
But the key is doing it anyways and not letting fear be the driver.
Amen.
And it also sounds like Mary Beth,
You basically went through a significant deconditioning process and a lot of unlearning,
Especially being raised in the Catholic church.
So can you share with us what steps you took in the process of unlearning what you were taught?
Yes.
So there were several kind of organic experiences that happened were pivotal to me making these shifts and kind of the unlearning,
Like you said,
The first was I read a book by Eckhart Tolle called A New Earth.
I love that book.
I read that book.
It absolutely fundamentally changed who I am.
I say to people that I can't un-know what I know.
Like once I learned,
Once I read that book,
I just,
I was a different person.
I've given it as gifts many times.
I learned about it through watching Oprah's show back in the day.
And so the concept of our ego and then the idea of reincarnation,
As I was reading the book,
It just made so much sense to me.
And I thought to myself,
Gosh,
I suppose it's possible that we have more than one life.
I suppose it's possible that we get more than one chance to learn all there is to learn in life.
And so it was just this shift in me that happened that was like,
Hmm,
That's possible.
Whereas my entire childhood and my early adulthood,
I just was conditioned to believe what I was taught in that particular church.
And it was very uncomfortable,
Very uncomfortable to go,
Huh,
Am I allowed to have my own opinions?
Am I allowed to feel differently?
And so it was this growth,
It was like this metamorphosis where I had to just give myself permission to ask questions.
And then I would say the second major shift that happened through me in this process was,
And this was a very,
It feels like it could have been a scene in a movie.
I went to Coffee With a Nun.
And the irony is that my father set up the introduction.
I expressed to them that I had some questions and some concerns with this Catholic church and some of their doctrine and some of their rules,
So to speak.
And so he was trying to be helpful and set up an appointment with a nun in my town where I lived.
I don't think my dad realized how liberal this nun was.
So I don't know if he knew how the conversation was going to go that he would have set it up.
But it was divine intervention,
I believe.
And it turns out this nun had been married before.
So I think she had this relatability to being on the other side of the church.
And so I asked her very poignant questions like,
You know,
I don't feel like I need to talk to a third party person or a priest to express my sins and ask for forgiveness.
I can kind of just go to God directly.
And she said,
You know,
Mary Beth,
That's fine.
If you feel like you can talk to God directly and you don't need a third party person,
Then that's what you should do.
And I was like,
Wait a second,
Is she giving me permission to opt out of confession?
I just thought this is a trip.
And so she said,
Mary Beth,
A lot of people don't have that feeling.
They don't feel like they have that ability to communicate directly so it gives them comfort to be able to have this middle man,
So to speak,
This person in the middle to connect.
And so that's okay too.
And so that was,
You know,
Again,
It was just kind of mind blowing.
And in the Catholic Church,
You receive Holy Communion at Mass if you go every weekend.
And if you don't go to confession,
Then you can't receive Communion until you go back to confession.
Well,
That's a problem because I just finished saying I feel a little bit uncomfortable going to confession when I just can go right to the source and talk to him and ask for permission when I can ask for forgiveness.
And so she said,
Mary Beth,
That's between you and God.
If you don't feel like you need to go to confession and you feel like you want to receive Holy Communion,
Then go.
There's no one else to judge you for that.
And so I was like,
Okay.
This was incredible.
I don't know if you're familiar with the Catholic Church,
But she was freeing me.
And so that basically bought me about 10 more years.
I mean,
Because I was at the point where I thought about possibly leaving the church,
So to speak.
And I just had this permission granted where it was like,
You know,
I can trust myself and trust my faith and trust my intuition and lean into my relationship with God.
And I can respect the church and I can respect the entity of their doctrine and their rules.
But there's some kind of middle ground where I can find my place.
And so again,
That's where I kind of have lived for the last 10 years until recently.
I'm now really starting to have some concerns with some of the the outreach that they're asking their community,
You know,
As far as,
You know,
Same sex marriages,
You know,
Kind of shunning that I just I feel like just basic humanity,
You know,
People being able to love each other who they want to love and,
And things like that.
So so I'm just I'm just continuing to go through this evolution when it comes to that,
But the learning was definitely a multi step process.
And those are just some some of the bigger moments that that come to mind.
Question everything.
I think you said that to me,
Mary Beth recently,
Right.
And I think that seems kind of like a sum up of your unlearning experience.
Question everything.
Yes,
And how freeing that is.
But again,
Very uncomfortable when you have just put your head down,
And nodded your head and just believed whatever you hear to be true.
And it's okay,
It's okay to ask questions,
It's okay to wonder,
To have,
You know,
Marvel,
Curiosity,
And that's,
That's,
That's perfectly fine.
And I also just want to say,
It's never too late.
It's never too late to unlearn and de condition.
It's never too late to change your mind and pivot to new ways of being or change your career.
Yes,
Absolutely.
You're an inspiration,
Mary Beth.
Thank you.
You're so sweet.
Thank you.
So during each stage of your journey,
How did you know it was time to make those pivots and major changes in your life?
So I don't I don't think I have a profound answer for that question,
Other than just a lot of serendipity.
A lot of feelings of feeling the sensation that it feels right,
It feels natural and trusting that feeling,
Because I'm an intuitive and I am highly sensitive I do get a lot of impressions and a lot of sensations and a lot of feelings.
And so I think just the the process of learning to trust that gut feeling,
So to speak,
And also the just kind of everything falling into place,
I can tell you a quick story.
So when I had that hunch to become a life coach and to consider pursuing it,
I was going to attend a Tony Robbins conference.
It's one of his very well known famous conferences,
And it's not cheap,
Which it shouldn't be because it's a lot of value you get.
It's many,
Many days in length.
I purchased my tickets.
My husband was going to come with me.
And my daughter at the time who was an infant got a double ear infection very sick.
And I just couldn't leave her.
So I thought,
Darn,
It's not meant to be.
I was upset for a good 10 minutes crying,
Like really,
I was so excited to go.
And I thought,
Okay,
For some reason,
I'm not supposed to go.
And I and I and I always trust I always trust when things don't happen if there's a reason for that.
And so they told me that I could go to another conference over the next year.
Well,
Guess what happened?
The pandemic,
And everything got canceled.
So loud and clear,
The universe was saying you're not supposed to go.
So I ended up using my refund to go to another life coaching certification through a gentleman named Dougal Frazier,
Who is another,
You know,
Respected,
World renowned,
Psychic and intuitive.
And that led me down a journey of more of an intuitive spiritual life coach,
Which I think that's why the whole Tony Robbins thing kind of fell flat,
Because I wasn't supposed to go down that road.
So that's just one example of how things serendipity and,
And things just kind of falling into place.
Yeah,
I love that.
And I think it's really helpful for people listening to know the signs maybe to look out for,
To help you know,
When it's time to make a change and pivot in life.
So in addition to what you shared,
You know,
Trusting your feelings,
The gut feelings and that trust,
I think some other signs to look out for bitterness,
Frustration,
Resentment,
Burnout in your current circumstances,
Lack of inspiration and or lack of motivation.
Then also,
When you start getting curious about new things,
New avenues,
New topics,
New ideas,
New,
New things to explore and learn.
And I think when you start experiencing a lot of these different things and have that awareness,
Maybe it's time to make a change.
What do you think Mary Beth?
Did I miss anything?
No,
You're you nailed it.
No,
That's exactly right.
And I just want to say to everyone listening,
Follow your curiosity,
Absorb new knowledge,
Follow the thread of a new passion and see where it takes you.
Let that quiet inner voice guide you down new avenues and new paths.
That's right.
Yeah,
I couldn't have said it better.
Just trusting,
Trusting.
That's it.
And allow yourself to change your mind.
Absolutely.
And don't have shame about it.
Don't feel bad about it.
Yes,
Exactly.
So Mary Beth,
Let's talk about who you are now.
You've come out of the closet as a medium and intuitive,
And you're living your truth and embracing who you are.
And you have a strong relationship with the spirit world.
And you're helping people.
How did you know you were a medium?
So I was in my early 20s.
I will back up I'll preface by saying in high school and college,
I had what I would call now more psychic abilities where I would think of something and then it would happen.
Or I would know something that had that I didn't know for a fact,
But I would believe that something had happened and then I would go and confirm that it happened.
Or something as silly as singing a song and I'd get in the car and turn on the radio and that song was playing.
So just very,
Very sensitive to seeing and knowing things.
And then my early 20s,
This may or may not be a very silly story,
But thinking back,
It's just so bizarre.
I was at the gym and I was on a treadmill.
I'll pause by saying that it's kind of a known fact that in order to hear from spirit or your higher self or intuition,
It's when you're zoned out.
And that's because of your brain waves and kind of where your mind is at.
And so if you're doing dishes or in the shower or taking a walk,
Working out,
You know,
Meditative-like state is when your thoughts are kind of slowing down and you're more receptive.
And so I say that because it's not surprising now looking back that that's when it happened the first time I was on the treadmill.
And I was reading a magazine and I believe it might have been the month of May or maybe October,
But I remember I was reading an article about breast cancer awareness.
And all of a sudden I had a feeling,
An awareness,
A knowing that my grandfather,
My mom's dad in spirit was there.
He was next to me.
I didn't see him,
But I felt his presence.
And he passed away when I was probably eight years old,
Back in the 80s.
Well,
It was in the 80s,
But so I didn't know him well,
You know,
And we lived in different states,
But I knew his presence.
I knew it was him.
And I'll never forget in my mind,
You know,
Telepathically,
I said to him,
Hi,
How are you?
What can I help you with?
I swear to God,
Because it was,
This is the first time I've ever heard from spirit and I just knew he was there and he just started talking.
And so,
You know,
And again,
We can get into abilities and all the clairs,
But that's called clairaudience.
So he started to talk to me about my sister and I have one older sister and he started to tell me that she needed to go get a mammogram and that he made me feel like there was nothing significant or anything to be frantic about,
But it was more of a concern of keeping up with your screenings.
Don't put it to the side.
And so as you can imagine,
Going to call my sister and say,
You know,
I have something unusual to tell you.
Grandfather came through and this is what he said.
So she's like,
Actually,
Yeah,
I'm past due to get my mammogram and,
You know,
I've been putting it off.
So fast forward,
She goes and gets it.
She ends up,
I guess she had dense breast tissue and she needed to get a sonogram.
And at one point,
I think she had to get a needle biopsy.
Fast forward,
There was nothing catastrophic.
She was okay.
But to this day now she still has to get sonograms in addition to her mammograms.
And that was kind of the impression he gave me was like,
She just needs to be very mindful about it.
So,
So how did I know I was a medium?
Because I was on a treadmill one day in the gym and my grandfather came through.
Oh,
I love that.
And did disability or did disability or does disability ever scare you?
No.
Okay.
Scare isn't how I would say it.
I would say it fascinates me and it intrigues me and it leaves me every single time I do a reading for a client.
I am in complete awe.
Complete awe.
The things that spirits will say and how great they are communicating.
You know,
Again,
I call myself the mailman.
I'm just passing along the messages.
You know,
This is not about me.
It's about the spirits,
The one that's doing the work.
And I just have to trust.
That's the biggest thing is I have to trust that what I'm getting,
What I'm seeing and what I'm hearing is real.
And yeah,
It doesn't scare me.
No,
It doesn't scare me at all,
Actually.
This is so fascinating to me.
Thank you so much for sharing all of this,
Mary Beth.
I have so many questions I want to ask you.
Let's go.
I'm going to like,
I'm going to keep it,
Keep it,
Bring it in though.
Okay.
So are you able to turn this channel to spirit on and off?
So I just feel very,
Very lucky.
I don't,
It could just be my intention or it could be luck or both,
But I don't get inundated by spirit.
I'm not at the grocery store walking down and hearing from someone's uncle.
I know that there are some mediums who do pick up frequency and messages and energy very,
Very easily.
I know I do a ton of grounding techniques.
I protect my energy.
And again,
My,
I think it's mostly my intention.
My intention is I'm not an open mic.
I'm not,
You know,
I have to live my life.
I have bound boundaries are really important to me.
So I feel like mostly in public spirit respects that I do receive messages from spirit,
From love,
From my own network and my own soul when I'm not expecting it.
And that's okay because they're,
They're my people,
You know,
Like for example,
My best friend's stepfather passed away recently and it was,
It was like a two week lag give or take between when he passed away and when he was being laid to rest and he had been cremated and I was in the bathroom doing my makeup and I just felt his presence.
And I literally was like,
Oh,
He's here.
And I just thought he was just coming to say hi and he was just rolling.
He was just giving.
And I was like,
Oh,
I gotta,
I gotta sit down.
So I sat down on my bathroom floor on my mat and grabbed my phone and just started dictating and writing everything he was saying.
So those are,
That's like one example of where I wasn't open for business,
So to speak,
But I think he knew that AI was alone cause I have two young children so I can be distracted quite a bit.
So I think he knew she's alone.
She's doing her makeup.
So she's in this kind of zoned out space and I can get her attention and he did.
And so that,
That kind of thing happens and that,
That is totally fine.
I don't,
I don't mind that whatsoever,
But yeah,
I guess you could say I can turn it on and off,
But mostly with my intention.
Hmm.
I love that you have strong boundaries with spirit.
That's so important because you have to live your life,
Right?
And you have children and you can't be like you said,
An open channel.
Yes,
Yes,
Exactly.
So how does spirit speak to you?
How do you receive these messages?
So I mentioned a few minutes ago,
This idea of they call them the clairs and so Claire is a French word for the word clear.
And so some of the more well-known ones is clairvoyant.
So that means clear seeing.
So if you imagine if you close your eyes and I tell you to imagine,
You know,
A big yellow banana and you can see that in your mind's eye,
That's,
That's how I see images.
So through clairvoyance,
Sometimes it's a still image.
Sometimes it looks like a movie or a scene being taken place.
So clairvoyance is one of my main abilities and then clairaudience.
Like I was telling you with my grandfather,
He was talking to me.
So again,
If you were to pause and listen to the chatter in your mind and those are your thoughts,
It sounds the same.
So I'm not,
I'm not actually hearing someone outside of my body talking.
It's in my mind,
But they're not my thoughts.
So those are my two primary abilities.
I also have clairsentience,
Which means clear feeling.
So again,
That was that feeling where I could feel my grandfather's presence.
And then claircognizance is a clear knowing.
And again,
That's just like I was telling you earlier,
Like I just,
Someone says,
Someone might ask me like,
Well,
How do you know you're talking to a spirit?
I'm like,
I just know.
It's hard to explain.
So I have all four of those,
But the drivers are really the clairvoyance and the clear audience.
There are other lesser known abilities,
Like the ability to taste or the ability to smell.
I have felt that a couple of times.
I don't really prefer that.
There was a couple of sessions I did where the spirit on multiple occasions had COPD and I couldn't stop coughing.
And I didn't know why it was coughing.
I wasn't even sick.
And it turned out that the person had COPD.
And so there was a couple of,
Again,
Or there was another time where there was a lady who had tension headaches and I felt this like tightening in my scalp.
So I will physically take on the sensations.
Again,
I don't really prefer or enjoy that very much.
So I'm grateful that that's not one of my stronger ones.
That makes a lot of sense.
And how do you differentiate though your intuition versus spirit speaking to you?
So that's a really interesting question.
A lot of times people will ask,
How do you know the difference between your intuition and your anxiety or your intuition and your own thoughts?
I've never had anyone ask,
How do you know the difference between intuition and a spirit?
But the truth is,
I don't necessarily know that it matters where it's coming from as long as you know it's from a good high vibration,
Love,
Light source.
So for example,
Intuition is when you know something but you don't know how you know it.
And that could come from your higher self,
So your soul level self.
It could come from one of your angels or one of your spirit guides.
So all of like the source of intuition could be from any of those sources.
A spirit,
A loved one in spirit,
I guess the only way I can explain it is feeling their presence.
Whereas on the other hand,
The intuition,
It's just a knowing.
I hope that makes sense.
No,
That does.
That makes a lot of sense.
Thank you for explaining.
And I know that you use these abilities that you innately have to help people.
And you work with people one on one and you bring through messages from specific spirits and loved ones.
Are there any common messages or themes that come through from spirit regularly?
Definitely.
The first one would be they express their love and appreciation for the person who is what you would call the sitter,
The person who I'm giving a reading to.
Just lots and lots and lots of love and expression.
A lot of times they'll literally show me them hugging them.
And it's just a beautiful feeling and something beautiful to witness.
Another common theme from spirit is their self-reflection that they've had on the other side that they can see things more clearly.
So they might apologize for something or take ownership for something.
So a lot of just asking for forgiveness or remorse or just recognition of some decisions or behaviors of theirs that they now understand now that they have kind of the veil lifted and they can see things with a different perspective.
Another theme I would say that is common is confirming that they've left you signs.
Like,
Yeah,
Yeah.
So that was me.
That was me.
That thing that you saw,
The da da da.
And so,
You know,
Because I think as humans,
A lot of times we tend to question,
Was that just a coincidence?
Was that just a total fluke?
And so they're validating.
That was me.
That was me.
I,
You know,
I did come through.
I have been trying to show you signs.
And then another one I would say is validating that they're still around.
So for example,
You know,
I was doing a session with someone who I think it was maybe their grandfather or uncle or something.
And she said,
Oh,
Well,
I didn't know her.
She passed away when I was a baby or I was very young,
Or maybe even before she was born.
And I said,
Just to clear things up,
You may not think you know her,
But she knows you very well.
She's been a part of,
She's been a part of your life,
Your whole,
Your whole life.
She knows your children.
She's involved in your life.
She's looking out for you guys.
So,
So I think they just really want everyone to know that just as they're physically not here doesn't mean that they're not here in spirit because they very much are.
I love all of that.
I've actually never personally worked with a medium.
So I had no idea how you were going to answer that question.
So yeah,
I imagine these messages of love and forgiveness and proof of an afterlife bring an immense sense of relief to people.
Yes,
I would say relief and I'd say peace.
Just having that validation that they're still around even though they can't physically see them,
It just can help to know that they are still here in spirit.
And yeah,
It's,
It's,
It's a beautiful sense of peace.
I love that.
And I also imagine this process helps people work through grief as well.
Yes,
I want to be considerate and respectful of clients and not share too many details.
But there was someone I did a reading for who lost her son tragically.
He was very young,
Still a teenager actually.
And he died of a drug overdose.
And she had some questions about his intention about if it was,
You know,
An accident or if it wasn't an accident and had some questions about people who were involved in the night of what happened.
And so he provided a lot of clarity.
He provided a lot of information and that gave her so much comfort.
So absolutely.
That's,
That's really special and invaluable.
Valuable beyond words,
Really.
Yes.
Yeah,
It's beautiful.
Mary Beth,
No pressure here.
But is there maybe a message from spirit you could potentially bring through right now for those people listening,
The collective listening?
Yes,
In fact.
So right before we hopped on to do this conversation,
I pulled an Oracle card and an Oracle card is a divination tool.
And I like to sometimes pull a card from time to time for myself or for my community on on Instagram.
And so I pulled a card for us that I asked for our best and highest good for any information that would best serve us.
And it's a card called Co-Create.
And just so everyone knows,
In case they're curious,
This is a Colette Baron Reed deck called Wisdom of the Oracle.
And the Co-Create card,
The Oracle message says,
You may not consider yourself a creative person,
But in fact,
You are creating your reality every moment of every day,
Through your thoughts,
Feelings,
Beliefs and tensions and actions.
Yet you consider that you do so in partnership with spirit,
Consciousness,
God,
Or whatever name you call your higher power.
You are a spark of this intelligence that works through you,
Nudging you with inspired thought and intuitive guidance.
You are a paintbrush that co-creates a beautiful,
Unique expression of your own individual blended with with universal spirit.
You are a product of divine inspiration.
And now you're aligned with it to create miracles.
When you view your life as art,
You know you co-created only beauty and grace result prepare to be amazed.
I mean,
That's just like a mic drop moment.
Oh my gosh,
Literally like,
Whoa,
I love that.
Yeah,
I'm getting the goosebumps right now.
And I get the goosebumps when spirits validating what's coming through.
Oh my gosh,
Thank you for sharing that.
Thank you,
Spirit.
Yes.
Mary Beth,
What are some of the other ways we haven't covered yet that you feel mediumship helps people?
I think for on a few different,
On a few different aspects,
If you either a didn't get closure.
So let's say someone passed away tragically in a car accident.
Unfortunately,
There's people nowadays who passed away from COVID and they were quarantined and you weren't able to visit them.
You weren't able to be by their bedside.
So I think the idea of closure is extremely important to have with your loved one.
I even had someone asked me,
They wanted to know their,
Their sibling had called them and left them a voicemail a day or two before they passed away,
Which was a tragedy and didn't leave a voicemail.
Or maybe they just said,
I'm calling you,
Call me back.
And she didn't get to call him back before he passed away.
And she wanted to know what his message was.
So again,
Closure,
Closure,
Closure,
Loss of closure.
And then like I said earlier,
A sense of peace.
I mean,
I really,
I think those are the two,
The two most poignant and pivotal experiences for people.
Yeah,
That's really important.
And also our loved one spirit you connect with,
Don't they also bring through guidance for the people,
For your clients,
For the people that you're reading for?
Yeah.
You know,
It's,
It's funny you say that.
So when I,
For me,
Now every person who does this kind of work has a different methodology.
They have different abilities.
They have different ways of going about delivering their messages.
For me,
I tuned into someone's energy at a soul level.
I then asked for information for their best and highest good about their life.
So that's more of a psychic tuning.
And so when someone books a session on my website,
They can actually indicate what they want to focus on.
They can do intuitive life path information.
So that's more psychic information or mediumship or both.
And so a lot of the guidance I get is from their higher self.
So I get them to give me information about their health,
About their relationships,
About their work.
I'll often ask about self care because I'm like,
I just want to know,
You know,
Are they taking care of themselves?
And if not,
You know,
What would be beneficial for them?
And if they have children,
You know,
Anything important there.
And so that's really where I get the guidance from.
So then when I when I'm talking to loved ones and spirit and through the mediumship,
Which is a little bit of a higher vibration,
A higher frequency to connect with because they have to lower their vibration to meet us where we are.
And so yeah,
A lot of times they will give confirmation and validation and,
You know,
They call it evidential mediumship.
So that's where they give you like little pieces of information that the person doing the reading could have never known.
And it's just a validate that this is who we're talking to.
I kind of call it like an obscure piece of information,
Or quirky and,
You know,
We'll kind of validate,
You know,
They showed me them at their wedding.
And,
You know,
Might talk about things like that.
So there's a lot of recognizing important moments in their life that they were there for that.
And just kind of giving that evidence that they're still here.
There will be some guidance involved,
If they feel like that's appropriate.
But I mostly personally get guidance from the intuitive psychic,
Which is connecting with their with their own higher self.
Hmm.
Okay,
That makes a lot of sense.
I kind of view spirit and maybe this is a conglomerate of both our loved ones and our spirit guides as our guides beyond the veil.
Yes.
I feel like spirit brings a higher level perspective and helps us see the bigger picture.
And they can help us embrace change and make decisions that are in alignment with our highest good.
That's exactly right.
And Marybeth,
I was also thinking when I was tuning into this and thinking about communicating with spirit,
That working with a medium and receiving messages from spirit,
Which provides us proof of that afterlife and that there's still around,
Could maybe help us work through our fear of death and fear of the unknown,
Which all of us have.
Absolutely.
That is so true.
You know,
I've heard I've listened to a lot of interviews from people who have had near death experiences,
Where they've actually been either pronounced dead or they were no longer breathing.
And so many people who I've heard who have had these near death experiences talk about what they saw and what they experienced and the immense amount of love and light and seeing some of their spirit team there with them and that they ultimately had the decision to come back and to not cross completely,
But gave them so much comfort.
I mean,
Some of them actually didn't want to come back because they were like,
I don't want to leave here.
So absolutely,
I think that it does provide a lot of comfort and peace to know that we are really just spiritual beings living a human experience.
Someone even called it a costume one time and I thought,
I love that we're wearing these human costumes right now.
I love that.
And we're just so supported and held to.
Absolutely.
Yes.
So to take this a step further,
Mary Beth,
How can communicating with spirit and receiving guidance from spirit help the world in your opinion?
So in my opinion,
It's comforting to know,
Again,
That when our bodies perish,
That our souls continue to live on and communicating with spirit helps to confirm that there's so much more to life than paying bills and just so much more to life than commuting to work or working until it's time to retire and then quickly trying to take some excursions and trips around the world.
You know,
To me,
It's about the journey of becoming the most evolved version of ourselves and learning lessons and growing along our life span.
And so spirit confirms this to me that life continues so much further.
It's eternal.
And in fact,
Time and spirit form as an illusion.
They don't have clocks.
They don't have stopwatches.
They don't live in the type of reality that we do with time.
So yeah,
This idea that we are spiritual beings having a human experience is the best way to summarize it.
I love that answer.
And I feel that spirit and the universe are always guiding us towards our higher selves and highest path and highest calling if we let them,
If we lean into that trust.
And the more of us that come into alignment with that,
The greater the ripple effect in the collective.
That's right.
Yep.
We are all,
You know,
Not to sound too,
You know,
Cliche,
But we are all one.
We're all one consciousness.
We're all one source energy.
And we absolutely have a collective effect on each other.
Yes.
The whole point of this podcast,
Really.
Period.
So Mary Beth,
For those listening that are curious and intrigued,
Do you have any tips or tools you can provide to help people develop their own relationship with spirit?
Yes.
So I would say first and foremost,
Talk to them.
Literally talk to them.
Have a conversation as if they're right in front of you having a cup of coffee.
Because they are when you think of a spirit,
Someone,
A loved one in spirit,
That is kind of like the calling card.
So they will come,
They will be with you at that time.
So talk to them,
Involve them in your everyday life.
Ask them for signs.
You can be specific.
Now don't be ridiculous.
Don't ask for,
You know,
A flying elephant per se.
That's going to make it very difficult for them to provide that sign.
But ask them,
You can even be specific,
You can give them a couple of days.
Don't be literal.
I'll give you a quick story where I have a set of Cardinals that live in my backyard,
Which Cardinals are known to be very connected with the spirit world.
And so it's not unusual for me to see the Cardinals every single day.
And so I was like,
Hmm,
How about a how about a blue jay?
I never I never see blue jays.
So I was talking to my spirit guides,
My spirit team,
And I was like,
Okay,
Show me a similar show me a blue jay.
And I think I let a day or two pass and I didn't I didn't get anything and I was like,
I was really sad.
So I was out for a walk with my daughter and my dog.
And I looked up at this neighbor's house who I've passed probably dozens and dozens and dozens of times.
And they have one of those garden flags on their front yard that had a blue jay on it.
And what's funny is,
Well,
I was like being punked.
And it was a kind of a joke from spirit because I'm always teaching about this kind of topic.
And I always tell my clients,
Spirits very clever.
So you know,
If they tell me that their sign for them is a rainbow,
It might not just be the rainbow in the sky.
It could be a rainbow on a coffee cup,
It could be on a piece of artwork,
It could be on the street sign you're turning on to,
It could be on the back of a license plate in front of you.
So they will use every opportunity to show you that sign that that you're connected with for them.
So ask for signs but be very open minded about how they're going to get that to you.
Meditate if you do any kind of meditation practice to quiet your mind to connect with your higher self and your loved ones and your spirit team.
And like I said,
Just pay attention.
I love that.
Thank you.
And it sounds like spirit also has a sense of humor a little bit as well.
Hysterical.
Hysterical.
Can I tell you a quick story?
Yeah.
So at the very end of all of my sessions for mediumship,
I will always ask the spirit,
What is your sign?
What is that primary sign that you have for them?
Oftentimes,
Things you think of like dragonflies or butterflies or rainbows or coins,
Feathers,
Things like that.
And I swear to God,
I heard pigeon.
And I stopped and I said,
Are you kidding me?
And he said,
Pigeon,
Pigeon,
Pigeon.
I was like,
I cannot believe you're going to make me say pigeon.
How can I say this to her?
She's going to be like,
Are you joking me?
So I tell her this and I preface by saying,
Listen,
I really,
I'm sorry,
But I have to tell you,
I can't,
A,
I can't hide it from her because that would be wrong.
And B,
I can't sugarcoat it.
So I said,
You know,
He said pigeon and she started cracking up.
She goes,
Is that why I have had a pigeon poop on me three times in the last six months?
And I started laughing.
And prior to this part of the conversation,
I had identified that he was a prankster.
And that he was very funny and had a very funny sense of humor.
And he was playing pranks on his wife,
On her mother.
And so we were crying,
Laughing.
It was so funny.
I was like,
Okay,
I feel I feel so badly that you had poop on from pigeons on you.
But I feel so much better now that I can share this.
And it makes sense that that's why he's saying his sign.
I said,
Listen,
Now that the cat's out of the bag,
And now you know that that's him joking with you,
You can tell him to stop doing that.
You know,
Let's let's move on to another sign.
And she said,
No,
That's okay.
Okay,
That's totally up to you.
That's what you want.
So yes,
Spirit has a great sense of humor.
Oh,
That's so funny.
And I also just want to reiterate,
I feel like getting quiet is really important as well.
You mentioned it,
But I just want to call attention to it because spirits voice is soft,
Like a whisper.
That's right.
And that's why yes,
As I mentioned earlier,
That the more you can quiet your minds,
Focus,
Listen,
You know,
You can do writing,
You can do meditation before you go to bed.
Instead of scrolling your phone,
You can close your eyes and connect with your loved ones in spirit.
You know,
Maybe if you're folding laundry,
Instead of multitasking and watching TV,
Turn the TV off,
Put on some nice music and just zone out you're watching,
Washing the dishes instead of being distracted by whatever you know you might be doing to speed the time up,
Turn off that distraction,
The video that you were going to watch or even the podcast you were going to listen to from time to time and just listen and those are the moments where you're going to hear.
I feel like that was a sign directly for me because I looked in a podcast while I'm washing dishes and while I filled my laundry.
So yes,
I'm a podcast junkie.
Yeah,
I listened to him all the time,
But I had to consciously choose.
In fact,
Here's another fun story.
I was meditating a few weeks ago and I heard in meditation that I was going to hear what my I want to write a book,
What my book idea would be about on a walk.
And I normally listen to podcasts or you know something to entertain me while I'm walking.
And I thought,
Oh my gosh,
I have to turn it off so I can hear.
And what happened a week later,
I was on a walk and my book idea came to me.
Wow.
And that wouldn't have happened if I was distracted.
So again,
I'm not saying this has to be,
You know,
Black or white or all or nothing,
But just carve out time,
Carve out moments in your day to give yourself the space to connect.
Thank you for sharing that Marybeth.
And thank you so much for being here today and sharing yourself with us.
I had so much fun.
I learned so much and I have one final important question for you.
What is your dream for the future of humanity and the earth?
My wish would be that people would understand that the universe is providing for our best and highest good.
Even if it doesn't feel like it at the time,
That there's a lesson,
There's a learning and there's an evolvement that's happening with our souls.
And also that the energy we put out is coming back to us.
So if you're at a high vibration,
You're manifesting positivity.
If you're at a low vibration state,
You're manifesting the opposite.
And so you have the choice so that we are the frequency.
We operate at a frequency of which we are living our lives in our reality.
So trusting that the universe has our back and that we have the choice of how we want our lives to play out.
It's time to unlearn what you were taught and embrace who you are at your core.
It's time to let your true self shine.
We are so supported and guided and held on this journey and seen and unseen ways,
But it's up to us to overcome the fears and limiting beliefs standing in our way and lean into that guidance.
I'll end today with a quote by Brian Benson.
Once I began to realize that there were no rules and that my path didn't have to look like everyone else's,
I relaxed and my whole world opened up.
