Guided Meditation number 2 in the Breath Series for exploring the breath using the letters of the word breath as our guide,

Specifically B,

R,

E and A.

First let's get comfortable in our seats.

Make sure your back is straight,

Your hands are resting.

And close your eyes.

Many people go entire days without even thinking about their breath.

Yet it is the very thing keeping us alive.

Your breath has been there for you since the beginning of time,

Fitting to each moment exactly as it needs.

The breath never asks questions and it never judges you.

It simply signals the body to be calm,

Allowing for great healing of all kinds to take place.

Let's honour our breath now and all that it gives us by taking 5 significant and purposeful breaths.

Using B,

R,

E as our guide,

B for Breathe In,

RE for Relaxing when we exhale.

I will guide you through.

Let's begin.

1.

Fully inhale.

Expanding your belly and chest as much as you can.

Holding it.

And then RE,

Relax as you exhale.

Feeling a wave of relaxation sweep over you.

2.

Inhale.

Filling your entire breathing system with fresh oxygen.

Hold it.

And then RE for relax on your exhale.

Noticing again the wave of relaxation sweeping over you.

3.

Inhale very deeply so that you are brimming with air.

Take a moment at the top to soak in the life force we call oxygen.

And then relax as you exhale,

Noticing how your body relaxes in different areas without any effort from you.

4.

Fully inhale.

Beginning to feel these breaths purifying your entire body.

And then relax as you exhale.

Just notice how you are feeling.

5.

Inhale,

And 5,

Last one,

A full and beautiful breath coming in.

Hold it.

Feeling invigorated by this breath.

And then relax as you exhale,

Allowing the wave of relaxation to sweep over you again.

And just take note of how you are feeling in this very moment.

You now have an abundance of oxygen.

This is truly how we are created to feel.

Breathing deeply and fully is an expression of self-compassion.

Just notice how your body feels with all this oxygen circulating through you.

Now we will move on to A,

Which is awareness of the breath.

Now that you have relaxed with your breath,

For the next minute you are going to ask questions about your breath.

What is my breath doing?

How is my breath moving?

Where do I feel my breath in my body?

How does my body react when I change my breath?

Take this next minute to be curious and ask questions about your breath.

And I'll bring you back.

Remember it's natural for the thoughts and mind to wander.

Don't judge or get impatient with yourself.

Just come back to the breath.

B-R-E.

Breathe in,

Relax on your exhale,

And then ask questions.

B-R-E-B-E.

Let's take a nice inhale.

Hold at the top.

And then relax as you exhale.

Coming back to your bodies,

Wiggle your toes,

Wiggle your fingers.

And when you are ready,

Open your eyes.

Breathe in,

Relax on your exhale.
