Somewhere along your journey you forgot that not everything can come with you.

Not every belonging,

Not every person,

Not every experience,

Every hope,

Every dream.

Somewhere along the way there are things that you need to let go of that you have been carrying,

Lifting,

Pulling along.

And so this time together is a moment for you to begin to let go.

Take a deep breath,

Close your eyes,

Settle into your body,

And think about the breath moving into your body,

How it comes in,

Where it settles in your lungs,

In your chest,

Think about all the things that you have let into your life.

When you were a child,

The things you said okay to,

The things that were forced upon you,

The things you didn't have a say over,

The things you wanted so badly and didn't get,

And the things you had to work so hard for but received little awareness,

Validation,

Acknowledgement,

Or support for all of the work that you had to do.

See all the times you tried and it didn't matter.

Notice all the ways and the places that you contorted yourself to be who someone else wanted you to be,

To fit in,

To be cool,

To be popular,

To be who you thought you had to be.

The cost of your own breath,

The cost of your own truth,

And begin to become aware of how this has impacted you,

How these experiences have made it hard to breathe as an adult,

Hard to breathe where you are in your life,

Hard to let go of what is not working for you,

The memories,

The things that were forced upon you,

The memories of the pain,

The illnesses,

And the injuries that keep going on and on and on and on.

Take a breath into what you know,

What you see isn't yours to carry anymore.

Take a breath into what maybe you don't need anymore.

Excuses,

Reasons,

Disclaimers,

People that have hurt you,

Ways that you have pretended,

Performed,

Ways you have been hurt,

Ways you've tried to control,

To manipulate,

To get what you needed at any cost,

Without judgment,

Without blame or guilt or shame,

Just awareness,

Just breath.

Take a breath into what you know you have to do,

What you've been resisting,

Pushing away,

Hiding from,

Taking a breath into that long list of personal to-dos,

I need to be this kind of person,

I need to be more of this and less of this,

I need to do this,

I need to show up in this way,

I need to mask more,

I need to unmask more.

That list that you have been wrapping around yourself as the reason,

The disclaimer,

The excuse,

The proof,

That you're not who you want to be yet,

And you're not where you want to be yet.

See how that list has bound you,

Has kept you in belief systems and constructs and places that you don't need to be anymore,

You don't need to punish yourself for something that you said 25 years ago,

You don't need to remember the ache and the shame of something you did,

Even if nobody else knows,

Especially if nobody else knows or remembers or cared or validated you or said it was okay or said it didn't bother them or said it did bother them.

Without anybody else,

Take a breath into everything that you have been holding,

Trying to figure out,

Trying to make sense of,

Everything you've been suffering on your own,

Struggling through,

Take a breath into all of the emotions you feel when you think about everything you have yet to do,

Everything you know you need to do,

That person inside that has felt lost and alone and confused,

Take a breath in so that they can feel that breath,

Take a breath into the places that you haven't been able to breathe,

That you haven't even been able to acknowledge,

Have become part of you or are part of you,

Take a breath into the sadness,

Into the grief,

Into the longing and the ache,

Take a breath into the pain,

And take a breath into the numbness,

The dissociated,

The severed,

The let go of,

Those parts that you rejected,

Refused to claim,

Just take a breath in there,

Let them know you don't hate them,

Let them know that maybe,

Maybe one day you'll be able to claim them,

But for right now,

You don't have to hate them anymore,

Take a breath in and feel the right side of your body,

By your ribs,

Underneath,

Notice the sensation,

Notice what it's trying to show you,

Your liver,

Side of your body,

Your diaphragm,

Look for the grief,

Look for the rage,

Look for bubbles and dirt and pieces of things,

Items like monopoly game board pieces,

Look for the things that you see when you tune into the right side of your body,

Just by your ribs,

And notice what you see there,

The colors,

The objects,

People,

Notice the pain that moves through your body,

The discomfort,

The emotions,

Notice what you've been hiding from yourself,

What you haven't been able to face or to see,

That's living here,

That's staying here,

That's been holding you back,

Because it's been unable to move through,

And all of these things,

These colors,

These shapes,

These people,

Everything you see on this right side,

Just under your ribs,

Notice,

Offer it an invitation,

Offer it the opportunity,

The chance,

The possibility to shift just a little bit,

Just the tiniest,

Tiniest shift,

One baby step forward,

Offer it the possibility that it could change,

Tell it,

You don't have to stay this way forever,

I'm here to help you,

I won't leave you alone again,

I won't make you face it all on your own,

I won't keep you isolated,

I won't keep you stuck anymore,

Tell it,

I see you,

Tell it,

I'm here to help you,

And through everything that you're feeling right now,

The emotions that are moving,

The waves that are shifting through,

The memories and the thoughts that are popping in,

Streaming out,

Let it know that you want to help,

That you can offer it a breath,

A breath of change,

A breath of transformation,

A breath of who you could become,

A breath of shifting,

A breath of power,

A breath of air,

Of new.

And when you're ready,

Take that breath,

Deep,

Deep inside,

Feeling it routed through your liver,

Through the right side of your body,

Right at your ribs,

At your diaphragm,

Let the air circulate through there,

Offering everything that's been stuck there,

The opportunity,

The help,

The support that you never got to move forward,

Letting your body know it's safe to let go,

And you can say this,

It's safe to let go,

It's safe to let go,

It's safe to let go,

It's safe to let go,

Letting the grief and the rage,

The jealousy and the shame,

Letting those things that have been keeping you,

Where you don't need to be,

Letting them process,

Letting them move through detoxification,

Giving your body a chance to rid them,

To help them move,

Reminding yourself it's safe to let go,

It's safe to let go,

Taking a deep breath in,

It's safe to let go,

Stay here for as long as you need,

Reminding yourself as often as you can,

As often as you desire,

That it's safe to let go,

It's safe to let go,

Even throughout the day,

Even as you continue forward,

Eyes open,

Safe to let go,

When you're ready,

Come back to the room,

It's safe to let go.
