Welcome.
Thank you for allowing me to participate with you in your journey to internalize the concept of Early Rise is Wise.
Make yourself comfortable by sitting still or laying down.
Close your eyes.
Allow the muscles in your face,
In your neck,
And your shoulders to drop.
Help relax your body and mind by just listening to your breathing.
Breathe very deeply and very slowly.
Quiet your mind of any questions,
Responsibilities,
Thoughts,
And desires by just breathing deeply,
By staying relaxed and still.
Take a moment and appreciate yourself for making the time to listen to this meditation.
Take a deep breath in and out.
Let's begin.
The purpose of this meditation is to communicate benefits of early rising and offer practices and insights to augment your current waking pattern.
You may have heard the popular poem by Benjamin Franklin,
Early to bed,
Early to rise,
Makes a person healthy,
Wealthy,
And wise.
Yet we know the uncomfortable act of waking early when we must,
For work,
For school,
Or to catch a flight.
But it is the emotionally visceral,
Physical,
And mental benefits to choosing to wake earlier to prepare for your day that are seldom discussed and experienced and therefore misunderstood.
For many of us,
Waking early may not provide a feeling of early task accomplishment right away.
Acclimating to the benefits of early rising consistently by choice will take weeks,
Perhaps months,
But it will show up eventually.
For most of us,
Early rising provides extra time to physically exercise which helps lower stress levels while compounding the increase of metabolic activity resulting in clarity of mind.
Take a deep breath in and out.
The first step is that you must decide to dominate your every morning by reminding yourself that early rising is the only way that you can squeeze more precious time out of your life.
The second step is to take immediate action.
Setting your alarm to gradually wake as early as 5am and creating a brief morning peak state ritual to manifest a state of readiness to succeed.
Take a deep breath in and out.
For many of us,
The first few nights of acclimating to this new routine will be difficult.
Remember,
You will struggle as your body and mind resist this change,
But that's okay.
Acclimating to rising early is analogous to making a long term investment in your health.
And like any financial investment,
For example,
The initial purchase costs but the dividends pay over time so long as you remain invested.
Take a deep breath in and out.
There are many techniques in which to create and customize your morning peak state ritual.
Here are the suggested peak state elements we will combine and practice together.
Feel free to customize them as you see fit.
The first is a breathing exercise to energize you and permeate more oxygen throughout your respiratory and circulatory systems.
The second is a mantra to add a compelling purpose to your day and resilience to challenges.
And finally,
The third is your thank you list intended to comfort you so you feel supported.
Before we practice your peak state ritual,
Take another moment to listen to your breathing.
Let your mind sink one level deeper into relaxation by trying to sense and feel your heart beating from inside your chest.
Take a deep breath in and out.
Here is your suggested peak state ritual.
Stand or sit up straight.
Hose back and chin up like a proud hero after saving the world.
Breathe like a champion.
Take a powerful inflated breath and hold for five seconds.
And exhale with the power of an enraged bull.
Let's try this.
Breathe in and hold for five seconds.
Exhale strongly from the belly.
And again,
Breathe in and hold for five.
Exhale strongly from the belly.
I invite you to say the following aloud with confidence and emotion.
I am unstoppable.
I raise my standards to be the best I can be.
My challenges are my teachers.
Then say your thank yous with a loving tone for what you have and for what you are reaching for.
Thank you for my life.
Thank you to my parents for creating me.
Thank you to my closest friends for standing by me.
Thank you for my healthy days.
Thank you for peace and tranquility.
Thank you for my curiosity and my intelligence.
Thank you for my ability to deliver value that helps others.
Thank you to my worthy opponents that have made me a stronger person.
Take a deep breath in and out.
What are the thank yous that resonate most in you?
Think of one that stands out and say it aloud with emotion and power.
Your every morning peak state ritual must be practiced as soon as possible to be most effective as it helps program your mind to operate in a peak state.
Take a deep breath in and out.
Envision yourself in the near future.
Envision yourself automatically invoking your peak state ritual first thing in the morning,
In the shower,
Or on your way to work.
Including members of your family to practice your ritual with you at the breakfast table and having a great time doing it.
Envision yourself having fun while you practice this exercise because you know its purpose is to prepare you each day for the rigors and beauty of life.
Please take a moment to appreciate and thank yourself for the discipline you've shown throughout this meditation.
Take all the time you need to just breathe and remember you can return to this meditation whenever you please.
Remember that the more you practice this meditation,
The faster and easier it will work for you.
Thank you for taking the time to begin to internalize the concept of early rise is wise.
And when you're ready,
Slowly open your eyes and let me leave you with these words.
It's a great day to be alive.

Thank you. The suggestions engage the intention I had when I chose this meditation. I am setting my alarm to rise 1.5 hours earlier than has been my habit. Inspired by changing my mindset about losing sleep to gaining my day and my life. I’m committed to practicing and discovering more benefits. Thank you for the power packed into this meditation. What sticks with me today are the affirmations. So often they hover as questions in the back of my mind. Affirming on rising quiets the doubts and empowers me to show up as my best self.

Thank you Sensei Paul David! I really needed this and will continue to come back to it, to program it in. I wrote the peak flow elements in my journal and I'm going to use Wim Hof breathing as well :)

Though I was a bit skeptical when the quote by Benjamin Franklin was stated to BE a quote yet was not actually what Franklin wrote (a word was changed), I did find this practice overall to be solid in construction and intent. It's something I may be trying out for a bit, but only after my morning meditation. I also disagree with the notion that rising early is "the only way" to add productive time to the day. You can consider that some cultures consider the day to begin at nightfall. You can consider that some have offset circadian rhythms (such as myself) and are most productive in the deepest of night. That aside, I think a re-conceptualization of this practice to being done whenever you intend to begin your "achievement-based" day makes it absolutely useful no matter the terminology or parameters employed. I am a general "night owl" with circadian rhythm differences, and have long tended to view nightfall as the start of my new day, since what I do in the evening sets the tone for my state of being during the sunlit hours to come. (A view held by my Jewish ancestors as well.) Makes sense to me. But for the purposes of becoming energized and productive, WHENEVER you arise, this practice is short, simple, and definitely energizing and focusing. I tremendously appreciate how flexible it is for customization as well. I am bookmarking this one for sure. Thank you for sharing it with us here. I look forward to engaging with this sequence again. I see the light within you. 🤲🏻❤️🤲🏻
