Welcome to Day 19 of Lent,
My dear friends.
Today's meditation is a visualization exercise designed to encourage us to choose life and is inspired by Deuteronomy 30.
19.
To begin,
I invite you to be still,
Which simply means to find a comfortable position in a space relatively free of distraction where you can quiet your mind.
Close your eyes if you feel safe and comfortable to do so.
Adopt an attitude of gratitude and non-judgment.
For today's meditation specifically,
It's particularly important to observe a posture of non-judgment toward oneself and embrace a heart and mindset of peace and loving-kindness.
Imagine you are in a peaceful forest,
Surrounded by the beauty and stillness of nature.
In front of you are two wolves,
One black and one white,
Both equally majestic and powerful.
The black wolf represents all the positive,
Life-affirming qualities within you,
Such as love,
Joy,
Peace,
Gratitude,
Patience,
And compassion.
The white wolf represents all the negative,
Self-destructive qualities within you,
Such as fear,
Anger,
Shame,
Envy,
Jealousy,
And hatred.
Now,
Imagine that these two wolves both rely solely and entirely on you to be fed.
As you observe these two wolves,
Ask yourself without any self-admonishment,
Condemnation,
Or negative judgment,
Which are you feeding in your life?
Are you nurturing positive qualities and allowing them to grow and flourish,
Or are you giving more attention to your negative qualities and allowing them to take over?
Spend a few moments in quiet reflection observing the two wolves and reflecting on which one you want to feed and nurture within you.
When you are ready,
Slowly bring your awareness back to your physical body.
Take a few deep breaths and thank the wolves for their presence.
And as the guided portion of this meditation comes to a close,
You may want to take a moment for reflection and or response.
You may want to journal your thoughts and insights,
Or simply sit in silence for a few more minutes enjoying the peace and stillness of the forest.
Thank you for sharing this tender sacred space with me today,
My friends.
And as always,
May grace and peace,
Light and love be with you.
