I myself will watch over my sheep and feed my flock.
I myself will watch over my sheep and feed my flock.
Whenever they are tired,
I will lead them to rest on the cool mountain grass.
When they are lost,
I will seek them and bring them back every last stray.
I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak.
Yahweh,
Rho-i,
My shepherd.
Take a moment to meditate on the imagery this passage evokes and how it relates to Advent.
Advent is a celebration of when our Good Shepherd came to be among his sheep.
In fact,
To become one of his sheep.
And then let us dwell on the story of the angels appearing before and declaring the good news of the baby Messiah.
Who did the angels appear before?
Who received this good news?
It wasn't the wealthy and the powerful,
Was it?
It was a group of shepherds.
What a wonderful symbol of what this Messiah was brought into the world for.
Who this Messiah was to be.
This Messiah came to shepherd the flock.
This Messiah came to shepherd the flock.
So this Advent,
Let us reflect on the character of our Good Shepherd.
Our Good Shepherd watches over us,
Protects us.
Our Good Shepherd seeks for us when we are lost and gives us hope,
Brings us back home.
Our Good Shepherd gives us peace and rest,
A place to be still.
Our Good Shepherd tends our wounds,
Heals us,
And restores our joy when we are hurt.
Reminds us of that love.
Our Good Shepherd never ceases to love us and remind us of that love.
Shepherd is love.
Love.
