About the time Yeshua was born,
Some wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem asking,
Where is the newborn King of the Jews?
We saw his star as it rose,
And we have come to worship him.
And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem.
I went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was.
When they saw the star,
They were filled with great joy.
They entered the house and saw the child with his mother Mary,
And they bowed down and worshipped him.
Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold,
Frankincense,
And myrrh.
For this meditation,
I'd like for us to imagine what it must have been like to be one of the Magi.
Imagine you are called to travel off to a far off land to see a newborn baby.
A baby you believe to be the Messiah.
This is not just a matter of jumping on a plane or getting in your car.
This journey is a long and difficult pilgrimage,
Traversing through harsh deserts and treacherous,
Possibly mountainous terrain.
And it is mostly on foot.
Imagine your delight when the great and arduous adventure is finally at an end and you are standing in front of this newborn king.
You cannot help expressing your elation and showering him with gifts.
Imagine what that must have been like.
The invitation here is to not take this story for granted.
Many of us have heard it many times,
But it is worth dwelling upon.
It is worth being contemplative of the journey the Magi went through to see Yeshua.
It is worth meditating upon the mindfulness of the Magi to follow their calling and literally follow that star.
And it is absolutely worth embracing that mindfulness ourselves.
What is your calling?
What star are you following?
Imagine the joy at the end of that star.
Imagine the joy at the end of that star.
