This exercise is one that offers us the opportunity to come to know a little more directly the inherent okayness in the moments of our life.
No matter what life brings our way,
We begin by lowering or closing our eyes whichever is more comfortable,
Then taking three breaths,
Aware of the in-breath,
Aware of the out-breath,
And noting the flow of air as it gently moves through the body.
When we bring to mind someone who in this life of ours has been good to us,
Has cared for us,
Shown us compassion and love,
They may be alive and near,
They may be far away and they may have passed on.
Bring to mind an image,
A sense of this person as you breathe.
Allow your mind to reflect on and remember times spent together,
Moments of joy,
Moments of kindness,
Moments of love as you breathe.
And then holding an image of this dear person in your mind's eye,
Wish for them wherever they may be.
May you be safe.
May you be at ease.
May you know peace.
May you know the depth of my love and gratitude for you.
And offer them your gratitude as you breathe.
And then in the next few moments,
As you bring a sense of this person,
This dear person,
More fully into your heart,
Into your mind,
Hear them wish for you,
Hear them offer you this reminder in their words,
In their voice,
Everything will be all right.
Everything will be all right as we breathe.
And then with a soft smile and a gentle knowing,
Allow an image of this person to recede into the background of your awareness as you bring your attention to the body,
Your body,
Sitting in this moment,
Noticing and feeling this breath,
Allowing this moment to be as it is and finding within this moment a sense of the okayness of this moment.
And when you're ready,
To lift your gaze,
Open your eyes.
