Sound Bath Sessions 252: Hitomi Kaimoto
Hitomi is another sound bath practitioner in Kagoshima and was invited by Lumi Higashi whom I had been in contact. They both shared the same enthusiasm for the project and were excited to make a recording together. The location was a 100-year-old villa all made of wood, tatami, and shoji screens overlooking a small garden with the smoking Kagoshima volcano in the distance. The morning weather was warm with cool breezes occasionally flowing through the house. Perfect location for a sound bath. We set up in a large room with tatami. Hitomi brought her large white bowls to one end of the room, and Lumi set up on the other. Hitomi's style is graceful and melodic. She manages the weighty sound of the Quartz bowls well, matching lush, dramatic swells with sprinkles of timid tones. The bowls still allowed some bird sounds to come in. The contrast between the scale of tones is special. Birds and the static of passing cars can be heard in the distance.
