Meditative Thoughts: Truth About Anger
by Susan Blayer
This session of “meditative thoughts” is a reflective talk which explores anger, how it is a healthy part of the range of human emotions, how it can be used for good, and how to avoid allowing it to be a destructive force in your life. You may find the music a bit distracting at first, but please trust the process- having a beat beneath the message helps you remember content on a subconscious level, as well as nudging your conscious mind to lean in and pay closer attention to the words being spoken by engaging multiple areas of the brain simultaneously. You can return to this meditation anywhere and at any time you need a little positivity, empowerment and reflection. This particular Meditative Thoughts is best used in conjunction with other anger transforming meditations.

Hello,
Friend.
I'm Susan Lorenzo Blair,
And I thank you for choosing to join me for this session of Meditative Thoughts.
I'm excited to be with you.
So meditative thoughts are a combination of meditation and a talk.
They're empowerment messages and a little psychoeducation in there,
Especially in this one,
That can be listened to anytime and anywhere.
So you don't need to be in a state of relaxation or a place of quiet to listen to them.
You can listen in the morning or before bed.
You can listen while working out or doing yoga or even taking a walk or if you're driving in your car.
Anytime,
Really,
You need a boost of positivity and to take a little break from the busyness of your world.
And in this case,
If you want to check in and maybe think a little deeper about why your anger is coming up.
So even though you don't need to be in a state of deep relaxation to listen to meditative thoughts,
And you certainly don't need to remember everything that I say,
The messages here will penetrate your subconscious mind over time.
With each time you listen,
Your consciousness expands around new,
Empowered,
And even enlightened ways of seeing yourself and your anger and the way you relate to the world around you.
So just try to see what comes up for you,
What resonates.
You may even want to have a place to write down what thoughts and feelings emerge after you listen.
This particular meditative thought is best used in conjunction with my other meditations about anger.
One of them is a longer guided relaxation meditation called Meditation for Embracing and Releasing Anger.
Okay,
So without further ado,
Let's begin this session of meditative thoughts entitled The Truth About Your Anger.
Your anger is proof that you are alive and well.
Anger in its most basic sense is a response in your brain to stimuli around you.
When you're angry,
A part of your brain,
The amygdala,
Is stimulated and fired up.
The amygdala is often called the watchdog because it serves as part of the limbic or the feeling brain to signal us to emotional or other danger in our environment.
So it's designed to protect you.
Sometimes the amygdala can be so saturated that it can actually override our rational brain and then diminish our ability to remember temperance and consequences.
So the truth is anger is the mind-body's way of telling us to wake up to the present moment and to pay full attention.
Your anger is proof that you are alive and well.
Sometimes we can be intimidated or afraid or shut down by anger,
Our own and the anger of others.
We may have been taught that anger is to be avoided,
So we push it deep down inside,
Sometimes so much so that we no longer even know how to feel our own anger.
Sometimes we've been exposed to violence or anger that has left us feeling shut down and terrified in the presence of it in others.
Or we may have been conditioned by our culture or gender stereotypes or the dictates of our family systems or our jobs to believe that expressing any anger at all is unacceptable.
Often we can sometimes become actually incapable of sitting in the presence of another's anger or allowing us to feel our own.
And we ask that others too repress these feelings because of the fear and discomfort it elicits in us.
But the truth is your anger is just proof that you are alive and well because it's a part of a full range of human emotions.
And like all other emotions,
Our anger is here to guide and serve us,
If only we allow it to.
Your anger is proof that you are alive and well.
Sometimes we are overcome with anger so much so that we feel as though it is controlling us,
As if we can't manage it.
If we spend too much time denying or repressing our anger,
It can rise to the boiling point very quickly and become explosive.
Think of a soda bottle you've been shaking and shaking for a while.
Once you open the top,
Even just a little,
It explodes.
Remember,
Feelings are energy and energy can never disappear.
It only changes.
So the truth is,
When you push down and push aside your anger,
You may have fooled yourself into believing that you've gotten rid of it when in reality,
You've only made it a stronger force when you finally allow it to be expressed.
Your anger is proof that you are alive and well.
Explosive anger,
Or anger that feels unmanageable or unrelenting,
Is often what I call accumulative anger.
Collapsed anger is anger that has remained stuck in our bodies and our subconscious minds from earlier points in our life when it was perhaps not safe to express it.
Intense or explosive anger,
Or anger that you feel you just can't shake,
May be coming up because something in the present moment is reminding you of a sense of powerlessness you've felt in the past.
So the truth is,
The anger you are expressing now may very well have little to do with what you think you're angry about today.
Your anger is proof that you are alive and well.
Even if our anger today is a composite of anger we have carried with us from other times,
It is valid and important.
All anger can be used,
Channeled,
Expressed in a way that can mobilize us into positive action.
Often if we are particularly sensitive or intuitive types of people,
We can feel very acutely,
Very intensely the anger caused just by witnessing injustices to ourselves and to others.
This is what I tend to call righteous rage.
Righteous rage is anger that shows up to be processed in the service of fighting injustice,
In the service of standing up for ourselves and other people who may not have a voice to do so.
Righteous rage is our portal to finding our own voice many times.
And it's very powerful and an extremely important form of anger for those of us who consider us lightworkers or healers or helpers.
Those of us who want to expand hearts and minds to higher consciousness and self-awareness and evolution.
Collectively our righteous anger,
When primed and processed and shipped into an energy meant to serve the greater good,
Is one of the most catalyzing and transformative forces on this planet.
And so we must not forget our personal and collective anger against injustices.
But on the very important other hand,
If we allow our anger in its most intense stage,
You know the fired up watchdog stage,
The amygdala stage,
To start calling all of the shots,
Our anger can sometimes become a raging fire that consumes us rather than helps us.
It can make us feel unhinged and start leaving a path of destruction behind us and we don't want that.
We must allow ourselves to inwardly,
Deeply and openly feel that level of intensity,
Of rage that may be within us.
We must feel it in our bodies,
We must vent and share about it with safe people,
And we must immerse ourselves in the sensations and thoughts that come up so we can explore them and process them further.
We will learn so much from this process.
And then we can create a version of our anger that can be used in constructive ways.
A version of our anger that is tempered by the love and compassion inherent in any desire to reduce suffering and to do our part to help ourselves,
To heal ourselves,
And to create a world that values justice,
Equity and peace.
So your anger is proof that you are alive and well and that you have passionate love and care within you.
Your anger is proof that you can do great things in this world.
Your anger is proof that you are alive and well.
So we've talked about how anger is an important emotional cue that we can learn from,
How it stimulates a part of the brain designed to protect us and heal us and take action for the highest good.
It shows us where we may be feeling powerlessness in the present and also alerts us about unresolved powerlessness from our past.
It reminds us to wake up right now,
Sometimes urgently,
To this present moment and to be more aware.
It is proof that we are passionate beings with a full range of emotions.
So if our anger is proof that we are alive and well,
It need not be avoided.
Rather,
We become healthy,
Balanced,
Emotionally mature and modulated people when we can understand our anger,
Feel it,
Process it and then release its intensity.
So friends,
Your anger is proof that you are alive and well.
Today may you start to see your anger as a living,
Breathing part of you,
A part designed to help not hurt you and others,
A part that may help you find your voice and heal.
May you lean into your anger whenever it arises without having to take action right away.
May you find the most assertive,
Firm,
Articulate voice with which to express your anger without the need to use aggression or violence.
May your anger bring you confidence and peace.
May you learn all the wisdom your anger is here to share with you today and always.
And may you find these thoughts as well as other meditations helpful on your journey.
And may the light and love of the universe fill you with peace and love and joy today and every day forward.
Amen.
Namaste.
Peace be with you.
Until next time,
Friend,
This is Susan Lorenzo Blair with your daily meditative thought.

This is good. Hope it helps me with a recurring trigger of anger that I haven't yet identified over the last 9 months. I feel it's from my early childhood because a baby crying is the trigger. Help please ! 😓

Appreciated the anatomy and physiology of the anger discussed. Many people do not know emotions are connected to endocrine system. Thanks for sharing! Namaste
