Good morning.

Today we are meditating on intention.

Find a comfortable place to concentrate.

You can rest on a chair or on a bed.

And as we begin,

Bring your awareness to the sensations in your body.

Feel the heaviness of your body resting on the chair or on the bed.

Take a deep breath in and feel the air expanding your lungs.

And feel it releasing as you breathe out.

Take another deep breath in and exhale.

When we relax,

Our mind becomes open and more receptive to meditation.

Why is intention important?

We need intention because humans have a tendency to live on autopilot.

Most of us wake up in the morning and instantly fly into a stream of habitual activities and routines that we're half conscious of.

Instead,

When we begin our day with intention and mindfulness,

We have greater control and ability to make choices during the day that invest in our values,

The things we are most passionate about.

It helps us maintain focus and resist distraction and other tempting ways to invest our time and energy.

When we live with intention,

We have the power to align our lives with a higher purpose.

Every person can discover meaning in their life.

As humans,

We have free will and the freedom of choice.

This means we can choose to see meaninglessness in our existence,

To give up our power for creative potential.

Or we can own it.

We can discover meaning and we can use our creative potential.

Examples of higher purpose in life could be discovering new places,

Finding adventure,

Exploring the world,

Building wealth,

A home and a family,

Creating something beautiful in the world.

Most of the things we pursue in life we've learned are important unconsciously thanks to our family or our society.

From the time we are young,

We receive messages that our potential is to work for wages,

To consume,

To partner and procreate,

Or to sacrifice ourselves for the larger community.

With awareness,

We can choose to accept these values or we can challenge them and we can create our own sense of meaning and purpose.

Today my intention is to live according to my values,

To invest in my health,

My relationships,

My career,

Or my creative pursuits.

I will maintain mindfulness today so that I can choose in small and large ways to invest in these values and resist distractions and careless activities that don't align my life with my higher purpose.

Take a deep breath in and out.

As we conclude this morning's meditation,

Bring your awareness back to your body and the surroundings in your room.

Take a glance outside at the sun shining and feel gratitude in your heart for this opportunity you have today to live with intention.
