Welcome.

This is Sarah and I'm so happy that you're here.

I wanted to continue with the series that dives a little deeper into the practices behind the sessions that I record.

Today I wanted to talk about intentions.

What they are,

Why we set them and also why we choose to set them within you.

Deepak Chopra says that intention is the starting point of every dream.

It is the creative power that fulfils all of our needs.

Whether for money,

Relationships,

Spiritual awakening or love.

Everything starts with an intention.

The Vedic text,

The Upanishads says,

You are what your deepest desire is.

As is your desire,

So is your intention.

As your intention is,

So is your will.

As your will is,

So is your deed.

As your deed is,

So is your destiny.

Intentions always start with a feeling.

A desire to feel a certain way.

And once we have identified that feeling,

Our intentions are our guiding principles that we live by.

So that we may feel the way that we wish to feel.

Think of your intentions as your guidebook,

As your roadmap,

Your root map,

Your philosophy,

Your beliefs.

And we write them as statements.

They are different to goals.

Goals are very specific.

They are very easily measurable,

They are easily defined and they are generally about something that we wish to achieve.

So we can have goals that help us towards our intentions.

So your intention may be,

I am calm.

And once you are clear on that intention,

You can then identify the goals that will help you to feel that way.

And they will help you to live and fully experience your intention.

In yoga we are often guided to create a sankalpa,

Your heart's deepest desire.

And we repeat it as an I am statement.

And it's the same with intentions.

They come from our heartfelt desire around the way we wish to feel.

And they become the guiding principles that we live our life by.

I am is the most powerful spell that we can ever speak.

Everything which we say after I am comes into being.

So we choose our words wisely with our intentions.

We embody the feelings that we wish to feel,

We cultivate and work towards the qualities that we wish to possess.

That will help us to get there.

We draw out our deepest most heartfelt desires and we draw ourselves a map.

To get there.

These are your intentions.

They are your most powerful,

Deepest,

Passionate,

I am statement.

The new moon is the beginning of a new cycle.

And just as nature is cyclical,

So too are we as human beings.

And if we can align ourselves with the ebbing and flowing,

Rising and falling,

Waxing and waning energy of the cycles of nature.

We can begin to understand where we can tap into the higher energy phases.

And where we're naturally guided to turn inward.

And the new moon is one of the times where we are naturally guided to go within.

To reflect on the weeks previous to the new moon,

To understand how we felt.

And to understand what it is that we want,

Need to show up in our lives.

It's a time of rest,

Deep contemplation and relaxation.

And if we use that time at the new moon to consider the themes that are being presented.

Whether that's just by noticing the themes that are coming up in our lives.

Or whether it is looking at the astrology of the new moon and relating that to our lives.

We can understand how it is we wish to feel.

And we can write our intentions as our map for the coming weeks.

To begin your own new moon intention setting practice,

Find yourself a comfortable space.

Try to make sure that you won't be disturbed.

And if you like you can clear the energy in the room in whichever way is appropriate in your culture.

You might want to light incense,

You might want to burn herbs.

You might just want to open the window and let the energy move.

You can then take some time to sit in meditation,

Move in meditation.

Or just relax in contemplation.

You can consider the previous cycle and anything that has made itself known in your life.

You can consider how you felt and the way you wish to feel in the future.

And let this contemplation,

Relaxation and inward focus inform your guiding principles,

Your intentions for the new cycle.

You can write them down and write them as positive I am statements.

As the days follow in the new moon,

As the energy begins to rise,

You can identify the small goals and changes that you will make in your life that move you towards fully living your intention.

As the moon moves to its first quarter phase,

It's time to take action.

Time to start doing and working towards those little goals,

Always keeping that guiding principle of your intentions in mind.

Intention to help us form the ever cyclical journey back to the self.

The true self,

The authentic self,

The highest,

Highest version of the self.

Look for the next new moon.

Carve yourself out sometime and set some intentions.

See what shows up.

Like the distinction between goals and intentions. And how the two work together. Always enjoyed moon cycles and now I can bring a deeper meaning to them.
