Doorway To The Soul
by Saqib Rizvi
Many of us have a desire to connect to our soul, but how can we do that? Some of us might already know the answer, but then why still do we find it difficult to have that connection with ourselves? Join Saqib in this talk to learn what exactly is the doorway to the soul and how we can open it! If you like this practice, then check out Saqib's course here on Insight Timer: "Non-Duality."

There is a beautiful quote by Alan Watts,
And I want to read it to you.
He says that,
Life exists only at this very moment,
And in this moment it is infinite and eternal.
For the present moment is infinitely small.
Before we can measure it,
It has gone,
And yet it persists forever.
This session is titled as a direct doorway to the soul,
And today I want to discuss with you a simple and direct way to connect to our soul,
Which all of us are aware of,
But most of us fail to practice.
This direct doorway to the soul is the present moment.
Now there is lots and lots of content available on the importance of staying in the present.
Many books have been written on it,
Many mystics have talked about it,
And in fact the mindfulness movement which emphasizes on the importance of the present moment has been highly popular.
However,
In this session,
I want to talk about how the present moment is the doorway to the soul.
How can we reconnect to our soul just by being present in the now?
The past and the future only exist in our thoughts and emotions.
You cannot find them anywhere,
And hence they are illusions.
The reality is in the present moment.
Imagine your soul as the sun and the thoughts in your mind as the clouds.
If the sun is covered by the clouds,
Then sunlight won't reach you,
But when the clouds clear,
The sun shines brightly on you.
Similarly,
When your mind is clouded by thoughts of the past or the future,
You get disconnected with the light of your soul.
But when your mind clears of the thoughts,
The light of your soul shines brightly on you.
That is when you access the soul and get connected to it.
When human beings bring their attention to the present moment,
That is when they get connected to their souls,
And that is when painters make great paintings,
Scientists make great discoveries or inventions,
Writers write the best lines which make history,
Musicians create the award-winning music,
And so on.
That is the time when the people are in the now,
They have a mono-monarchal focus,
And they are in a flow state,
And it is those moments when they do their best work and make history.
In that moment,
When they are totally in the now and focused on their work,
They lose a sense of time and they lose a sense of space around them,
And it is no coincidence that the soul exists outside space and time.
Dr.
Joe Dispenza says that,
Where you put your focus is where you place your energy.
When your attention is in the past or the future,
You give away your energy to the thoughts of the past or the future,
But when you bring your focus to the present moment,
That is when you draw all your energy to yourself and know you have lots of energy to do great things.
Imagine how important it is to keep your awareness in the present moment.
Let's say you are watching a movie in the theater.
If during the movie you don't keep much of your attention on the movie and rather check your phone or talk to the person next to you,
Then you will miss out many scenes in the movie and you would not enjoy and understand it.
Similarly,
Our life is a four-dimensional and highly engaging movie,
And if we don't pay attention to it,
We will end up not experiencing it,
Not understanding it,
Not enjoying it,
And in fact not living it.
The parts of our life that we don't pay attention to literally don't exist for us.
So ask yourself what are you missing out on?
Are there people in your life for whom you are not present?
Are there animals around you whom you have not caressed?
Are there trees,
Plants and flowers near you whose beauty you don't admire?
Or even are there things in your room where you spend most of your time that go unnoticed for many days and even months?
A man once asked Osho that if I keep my focus in the present moment,
Then what about my future?
To which Osho replied that there is no future.
Whatever he will experience tomorrow will also be the present moment.
The future never comes.
Whatever comes is the present moment itself.
And if he keeps worrying about the future,
He will keep on missing the present,
And his whole life will be spent worrying,
And eventually he will die waiting for the future to come,
But the future will never come.
If you live your present moment to the fullest and if you make your present moment full of joy,
Then the next moment is bound to be full of joy,
And hence the so called future,
Which is nothing but the present itself,
Is also bound to be full of joy and happiness.
There are many meditations available on Insight Timer which can help you connect to the present moment.
However,
I would like to tell you a very simple technique which you can use in your daily life wherever you are.
As soon as you realize that you are thinking,
Acknowledge it by saying,
Hmmm,
I am thinking.
And then first look what directly is in front of you in your line of sight.
Observe it,
And then observe the space that you are sitting in,
And then bring in the other senses.
Smell the air by taking a deep breath in,
Feel the taste in your mouth,
Listen to the sounds around you,
Sense the air touching your skin,
And just observe how your body is feeling right now.
As soon as you open the door to the soul by bringing yourself to the beautiful present moment,
You will instantly get connected to your soul,
And the longer you stay connected to your soul,
Higher are the chances that your soul will take over and drive your life,
And you will experience miracles in your life.
Lots of love and blessings to you.
Namaste.

🙏🏼Thank you, Saqib. It’s an effective technique, my first yoga teacher taught me years ago (he called it an ‘awareness break’). Thanks for the reminder and insights, this is especially helpful when we’re disturbed by memories. 🪷🩵✨

We just had a very personal celebration to honor the passing of my beautiful husband of 43years. The theme was.."what time is it? It's right now." That is something my husband always said when asked what time it was. He was such an inspiration because he is the only person I've ever known and many have ever known that lived truly in the moment and even when he became ill he still lived in the moment and offered kindness and love. This is a beautiful meditation and so true. Thank you.

Saqib, thank you. As always this deeply touched and moved me… also thought-provoking. I looooved the Alan Watts quote. I’d like to learn more about OSHO. Maybe a few live sessions to dive in? I felt such deep peace knowing the future doesn’t exist. Something about the way you place words together always rings so clear, so true. Blessings to you my friend, my teacher, my mentor, my guide. I love and appreciate you more than you know. Amy
