Welcome to this meditation.

Recently my husband and I lost our heart's companion,

Our beloved dog of 16 plus years.

While in some way we knew the day was getting closer to his final breath,

The actual experience and witnessing this passing asked us to be open and fully present.

Whether it's an animal companion or a loss of family or friend,

Each process is unique,

Intense,

Real and sacred.

My continued yoga,

Meditation and other rituals have allowed me to hold space for myself and my husband as we move through this process.

If you are in a similar place where you have had to say farewell to a beloved one,

I hope this meditation in some way will provide you some ease.

Thank you for listening.

Come to a seat,

A seat that awakens to now.

As the earth holds our body,

Lengthen the spine up.

Let your shoulders gently drop towards the earth.

Now soften your eyes and relax your jaw.

Make contact with your breath.

Feel each movement of the breath.

Through the breath graciously come to this open awareness,

Awareness of open space that is safe and accepting,

Awareness to acknowledge the emotions.

Allow the rolling breaths to move through you and moving that breath to where you are feeling the most sensations that might be in your belly,

In the center of the heart,

In the back of the throat.

Just keep the breath moving deeply in and out.

The deep breaths giving permission to fully feel and to release.

Now let's take a deep breath in and exhale through the mouth.

Again take another deep breath in and exhale through the mouth.

I love this breath to hold you here,

Still staying connected to the breath.

When we lose our part with another being,

It is a natural process of grieving the hurts or the pain.

Today in our seat we look at ourselves with compassion,

To be in this space to allow what needs to flow through.

The mind will want to take us away from our current experience or emotions.

However that only helps temporarily.

It's the accepting and acknowledging that will bring more ease.

So let's take a deep breath in and exhale out through the mouth.

Again let's take another deep breath in and exhale out through the mouth.

Recognize and acknowledge this final transition of your beloved one.

This transition is a sacred act.

A transition from now to eternal.

A transition of the eternal spirit taking flight from the physical body.

The spirit soars into freedom or eternal liberation.

That parting and what we miss is only in our physical connection.

The love and the connection we have is beyond that physical body.

It is the recognition and connection of the soul to soul or spirit to spirit.

The recognition of that eternal flame or light.

Now drop into your heart presence.

Connect to your light within the heart.

Connecting to your inner spirit.

Feel it warm and glowing through you.

Now connect to the light of the loved one that has passed.

Bring your left hand to the heart center and extend the right hand out in front of you.

Send your light from your heart to the loved one.

Keep sending out your love and light.

Feel the love from your heart space reaching out through your right hand and stay in this moment.

Bring the hands together and hold the light of your loved one in your palms.

Stay here again with a deep awareness of your loved one's light in your hands.

Now gently extend the hands out in front of you and allowing the light to soar and take flight from your hands.

This is a sacred symbolic meaning of the spirit taking flight into the ocean of goodness.

Our physical presence here is limited but our spirit is eternal.

Bring the palms together and place them in front of your heart.

Take a deep breath in and exhale out through the mouth.

One more time take a deep breath in and exhale out through the mouth.

While we celebrate our time here on earth we also celebrate that spirit returning to its eternal peace.

Let that bring some comfort,

Healing and let that bring some joy to the heart.

Life is sacred on every being on earth.

Celebrate every time the recognition of the spirit to the spirit.

As you stay seated let the inner light,

The spirit within you,

Expand.

Continue to let that light from within you expand through your whole body holding you in this moment.

Let that inner light hold you and heal you.

So take a deep breath in,

Exhale through the mouth.

Surrender to this moment of healing and celebrating the light,

The light of your beloved and the light within you.

Namaste.
