Me Vs. Not Me
by Bodhi Samuel
Who am I!? This meditation is gonna help us connect into what's mine and what's not mine. As we move through the world, during the days, we connect with others, and we often pick up emotions and baggage that may not be ours, yet we carry it around because we're not aware. When we take time to check in with what, within our energetic body belongs to us, and what doesn't, we can distinguish and clean out our energetic body, like we'd clean our house! Its time to release! With love.

There was a man and he was sitting in his canoe,
In his boat.
He was paddling through the fog on a lake.
He's paddling and paddling and the fog is so thick you can barely see in front of him.
Out of nowhere as he's paddling he hits another boat.
And immediately he yells,
Hey watch where you're going.
And as the fog clears up he sees that there's no one in the other boat.
And there was nobody there.
Today's meditation we're going to deepen into the me and the not me.
What is mine and what is not mine within me.
It's as if throughout our life we are on this journey walking up a mountain let's say.
As you're walking throughout the travels sometimes your friends will say,
Hey can you carry this for me?
And they put it in your backpack.
You say,
Yeah no worries.
Someone else,
Hey can you carry my bag for a minute?
Yeah.
And we get used to this weight that we've been carrying for a long time.
We forget that that weight is on us.
So today's practice will be identifying what we've been carrying that isn't ours so that we can let go of it.
So we can put it down and release that weight so we can have freedom.
The first step in letting go of something is to recognize and acknowledge that it's there.
It's sometimes the hardest part.
So today we'll be cultivating that awareness.
I want you to sit up tall if that feels good for your body.
You can be cross legged,
You can lay down.
Whatever is calling you.
You're sitting up,
We roll the shoulders back and elongate the spine,
Feeling the space in between the vertebrae.
The crown of the head reaches toward the sky as the sitting bones root down into the earth.
As we sit in between heaven and earth as humans,
We are the connecting piece.
Starting to let the body breathe.
And just taking notice where the breath is today.
Are there long breaths?
Without trying to control noticing where it's coming from.
From the belly,
From the chest.
And just acknowledging this is where I am right now.
This is just what's happening.
If the breath is short,
Let it be short.
If they're long,
Let them be long.
Today we're just meeting ourselves where we are at.
This is where I am.
As we continue observing,
We can place our awareness in the belly.
As it expands and contracts.
Feeling the soothing rhythm.
Like a soft running river.
Calming the mind.
Noticing the breath coming out of the nose like a very subtle breeze.
Perhaps noticing the temperature on the upper lip.
Perhaps not.
Where are you today?
Let's meet ourselves where we are.
Maybe thoughts are arising.
Cool.
Thoughts.
Maybe the mind is still.
Cool.
Or still mind.
As we start to settle into what is just,
What is happening for me.
What is arising in this moment.
Can I be with it?
Can I invite this experience in even closer?
Can I welcome this experience into my home?
Let's take a deep inhale and sigh.
I'm going to do one more to release the practice.
Investing in our spaciousness.
In the openness that we've cultivated just by being for a few moments.
And turning our awareness inward to the core of the body.
And as we start to look at our internal landscape.
We can ask the question.
What in this body is not mine?
What have I been carrying?
You can ask for all the parts that you're carrying that aren't yours to be highlighted in blue.
Whatever is mine,
Show up in blue.
Sorry,
Whatever is not mine.
Whatever does not belong to me,
Show up in blue.
And as you start to notice different little pieces or almost like debris floating within you,
This blue debris.
You can imagine a vacuum cleaner pulling down from the earth.
And like a big open and wide hole moves from your sitting bones down to the earth as everything gets sucked out.
All of the blue,
All of the bits,
All of the gunk.
It doesn't belong to us.
And just notice this beautiful purification process happening as you start to clean out your home.
And we pause.
What here is mine?
What belongs to me?
Can show up in green.
All of the parts of us,
All of ourselves that belong to us,
We can imagine green glowing.
And holdings glow as we feel our bodies start to illuminate.
We check one more time what here isn't mine.
As we glow green,
We can start to see little blue pieces show up,
Things we might have missed when we vacuumed earlier.
And again,
Pulling down through the root of our body,
Down the spinal cord into the earth to be recycled.
Everything that isn't ours washed away.
So that we're left with this green glow throughout the body.
Noticing the softness and pureness as we're back to our original selves,
Our energy bodies clean like we just brushed our teeth.
Feeling whole and pure.
With this green light connecting into all of ourselves.
Our skin,
Our stomach,
Our chest,
Our bones.
All the way up to the mind,
The head,
The skull,
The crown.
How would it feel to be whole?
How would it feel to let go of other people's stuff?
How would it feel to be free?
When you're free.
Bring your hands to heart center as we move toward ending the practice.
We can gently bow in gratitude.
There's a man rowing in his boat and he hit the other boat.
Watch where you're going.
There's nobody there.
The enlightened in me sees and honors the enlightened in each and every one of you.
May you be peaceful,
May you be well.
May you see through the fog.
May you rest in peace.

Wow! This was so important to me today. It was hard to name ou identity what I've been carrying from others but I know they are there because I kinda feel like I lost my true self throughout the years. It's a journey back home and this meditation showed me it's possible.

I want to give deep thanks for your meditations Sam🙏🏻❤️. It’s been a while since I’ve found a teacher I connect with and resonate in this way. I just finished this meditation as well as the energetic boundaries meditation and they were so helpful. Energetic boundaries and letting go of what’s not mine have been a big part of my journey and only now am I starting to gain clarity on what that means. Sure enough I came across these meditations just when I was ready for them. I wonder if there are any further practices you would recommend to become more skillful at this? Thank you again🥰🌈💫
