This meditation is designed to create a little bit of space.
We all lead busy lives.
We might have busy minds,
And it can be helpful to take a pause.
It can be helpful to take a pause before we even begin our days,
And it can also be very helpful to pause amidst the busy day.
And so honoring that you have created this space right now for a sacred pause,
There's nothing you need to do,
Nothing you need to worry about.
The best thing about problems is that they'll still be problems later.
So,
Nothing to do right now besides sit,
Connecting to the sensation of sitting,
Letting your body be heavy,
Noticing the quality of the breath as you breathe in and as you breathe out,
Allowing your breath to be natural,
Placing your attention on the rising and falling,
The chest or the belly,
Allowing our thoughts to settle.
And you may notice that your thoughts aren't settling.
They might still be whirling.
The to-do list might be calling.
That tricky conversation might be nagging in your mind.
And if that's the case,
That's okay.
In creating space,
We make space without an agenda.
The space doesn't have to look a certain kind of way.
You don't need to be the monk on the mountaintop.
You can just be yourself.
You can let yourself be natural.
And so,
If thoughts are there,
Let the thoughts be there.
We're just creating space to let the thoughts swirl,
To not do anything about them.
And every time you notice,
Hey,
I'm thinking,
Put a slight smile on your face because congratulations.
You noticed you were thinking.
It means that you were in the space of awareness.
And so,
If the thoughts go,
Let them go.
Just maintain this awareness.
I am thinking.
And as you sit here creating space,
You might become aware of the body,
Sensations that might be pleasant or unpleasant.
You might notice tightness or constriction.
You might have little niggles of pain.
Or your body might feel very relaxed and very good.
And just like with the thoughts,
We don't need to get wrapped up around any sensations in the body.
You just notice them and say,
Thank you.
I'm so grateful I have a body.
Right now,
My body's job is just to sit here,
To experience space.
And so,
We'll sit here now in silence,
Watching the thoughts for two more minutes.
And so,
With that,
We've created a little bit of space in our day.
We've created a little bit of space in our mind.
And there's no way to do this right.
There's no way to do it wrong.
All we do is create space.
And from the spaciousness,
We can return to our day.
We can return to our tasks,
Our commitments.
And maybe we can return with a little more ease,
A little more perspective,
A little more connection to the great awareness that is never perturbed,
That is never rushed.
It's always just there.
Always present.
May you carry this presence through the rest of your day.
