Welcome,

I'm Samantha Adams and I'll be guiding you through a tree meditation today.

Making sure that your devices are turned off and you're somewhere that you won't be disturbed.

Settling yourself either on a chair or a cushion so that you'll be comfortable with your spine straight.

Gently closing your eyes if you're comfortable to do so or simply soften your gaze if you prefer.

I invite you to take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Breathing in and breathing out with a sigh.

We'll do this two more times.

Taking a deep refreshing breath in and a long breath out.

Releasing any tension in your mind and your body with each exhalation allowing any sound to be released which helps you to come fully present into your body here and now.

Once again breathe in and breathe out.

Allow your muscles to soften and your mind to grow quiet inviting your heart to be peaceful.

I invite you now to imagine that you are walking barefoot on the earth.

Perhaps you're walking on grass in a meadow or on soft pine needles in a forest.

As you walk feel your feet connecting with mother earth step by step walking as if your feet are kissing the earth with each step that you take.

Your feet bring you to a tree that calls your attention.

Perhaps this tree speaks to you because it is beautiful or perhaps because it is unusual.

Maybe this tree catches your attention because it is a large sentinel in the forest or perhaps your tree is small and seems fragile.

This tree may be one that you're familiar with.

It may be a tree from your own garden,

Maybe it's from your childhood or perhaps it's even a tree that's come into existence through the power of your imagination.

Whatever tree it is there's a sensation in your heart opening to this tree that's in front of you.

I invite you to just be with this tree.

It is enough to just be in the presence of this tree.

You may choose to lean your back against the tree,

Want to nestle into the roots at its base.

You may choose to climb up into its branches being guided by whatever feels right for you.

I now invite you to breathe in and out directly from your heart.

Breathe in,

Breathe out.

Exhaling and sending your breath to this tree as a gift or giveaway.

Imagine the tree receiving your breath on the next inhalation,

Receiving the oxygen that the tree is gifting to you.

With each breath perhaps you can see a figure eight forming between you and this tree.

Breathing in,

Breathing out.

You breathing in the oxygen that the tree cannot use and you exhaling the carbon dioxide that you cannot use that the tree breathes in gladly.

The cycle is never ending.

Breathe in,

Breathe out.

Taking a moment to recognize that this dance of giving and receiving the breath is always occurring.

Feeling kingship with this tree through the giveaway dance of the breath.

The tree has not forgotten how to do this but perhaps you have.

You are always breathing with these green beings.

Now imagine that you have an offering in your hand.

Maybe it's some water or a crystal.

Perhaps you'd like to share a poem or a song.

Maybe you'd like to offer some corn flour.

Whatever your offering is,

I invite you now to place this gift with reverence at the base of the tree.

In this way you are thanking the tree for allowing you to deepen your connection with them and now ask the tree for permission to merge with and become one with them.

Listen for their response.

This may be an inner knowing,

A felt sense,

Being aware of any shift that occurs that feels like the response that you are receiving.

If for any reason that you don't feel like you got a yes,

Know that this is okay.

Instead I will invite you to simply sit with the tree resting your back against the trunk.

If you received a yes,

Imagine now that you are being drawn inside the trunk of this tree.

Feel what it's like to have roots begin to grow out of the bottom of what were once your feet.

Your roots grow down,

Down into the earth beneath you.

Feel them moving through the soil,

Moving around stones.

Perhaps you feel creatures around your roots,

The tree's roots,

Your roots,

All merging and blending together.

As you stand with your roots in the earth,

There's still a little bit of awareness of yourself as human,

Yet you are inside and part of this tree.

The next time you inhale,

Consciously breathe in the sustenance of the earth through your roots and feel that nourishment,

That love,

That support of the earth being drawn up through your roots and into your body,

Your tree body,

Your human body.

Perhaps you can even feel the sap as it rises in the tree,

Like the blood flowing through your veins and up into your heart.

Sap rising,

Blood rising,

Allowing yourself to feel what it's like to contain the heartwood,

The heartwood of the tree inside of yourself.

Your heart tenderly beating within this heartwood,

The heartwood beating within your heart all at the same time.

Then visualizing what it's like to have the thick protective layer of bark all around you.

Sensing and imagining this.

What is your bark like?

Is it smooth?

Is it furrowed?

What is its texture?

Feel what it's like to have both a soft interior and the bark exterior protecting you.

With your roots still growing down into the earth,

Feel the upward motion of becoming branches.

Perhaps raising your arms into the air and feeling what it's like to lift your branches into the sky,

To lift your branches up and out,

Whatever thickness they are,

Lifting them up.

Branches reaching to the sky,

Roots reaching down into the earth,

Down into the waters under the ground.

And perhaps even sensing way deep under the ground,

The fires that are always burning in the center of the earth.

The earth always being created from the core and also perhaps feeling the heartbeat of the earth,

Meeting the heartwood of the tree,

The heartbeat of the human,

All coming together as one.

Even as you grow down under the soil,

You grow up and out,

Reaching up to the sky,

Reaching out to the stars,

The moon,

The sun,

As this tree feeling what it's like as the night falls,

Feeling the moon shining on your branches.

Maybe there's even a nest high in your branches with a mother bird sitting on her eggs.

How does this feel?

Being the tree and feeling the rain,

What does it feel like to drink the rain in,

To feel it flowing down your limbs,

Your branches,

Your trunk,

Soaking through the outer bark,

Nourishing you,

Drawing out buds and unfurling into leaves.

The life force is already there within the tree.

The water and the sunlight and the starlight causes your leaves to open.

Feel the wind moving through your leaves.

Hear the song of the wind through your leaves.

Perhaps you're a tree that grows flowers.

As the sun warms over days,

Nights and weeks,

Your flower buds appear and then blossom.

Feel what it's like to blossom.

What do your flowers look like?

What is it like to have bees buzzing around your flowers and other pollinators feeding on your nectar?

Feeling all the while this deep connection from above and below,

Rising up and drawing down.

Allow this to spiral in your center,

Above and below meeting and merging,

Spiraling in your center and knowing it is enough just to be.

It's enough just to be present and rooted in the earth,

Knowing where you belong.

As time moves on,

The seasons turn,

The days grow shorter and the nights longer.

Your flowers become fruits,

Nourishing fruits hanging from your branches,

Heavy but not a burden.

As the fruits ripen,

Perhaps they are gathered by humans,

Birds or other animals or maybe they drop to the earth,

Setting seeds for future generations.

The wheel of the year continues and you begin to turn inwards,

Drawing your energy in.

You release your leaves to the earth without any attachment.

You simply let go,

Trusting in the process,

Knowing that with each cycle there must be death so that there can be birth.

Take a moment just to be with this as a tree,

At peace with all that you are.

With deep gratitude for the tree allowing you to have this experience,

It is time now to spiral back from the furthest point of the branches,

Spiraling down,

Down and in,

Down and in,

Spiraling down into the trunk,

Spiraling down,

Down,

Down.

Experience yourself drawing your roots up,

Spiraling them up,

Up,

Up,

As your feet begin to reform inside the trunk,

Knowing that when you are ready you can step out of the tree as the human that you are,

Fully returned to your human form.

As you gently withdraw yourself from the tree,

Allow yourself time for the transition,

Making sure that you're all the way back in your body and when you're ready,

Stepping away from the tree now,

You turn and gaze upon this being that you just had this experience with,

With gratitude emanating from your heart.

Breathe together from heart to heart to heart,

Notice anything that feels different,

Taking a deep breath in and a long breath out.

You are fully back,

Fully human,

Yet in deeper kinship with these wise beings.
