
7-Day New Year's Practice: Day 4 Chakra Cleanse
Just like we cleanse our physical body, we can cleanse the energetic centres or portals that run through the body. A chakra cleanse can be a great detox of our mind, body, and spirit. Releasing old mindsets, self-defeating opinions, thought patterns, and habits to make space for healthier options. In this lesson and guided practice, we learn about each of the seven major chakras and practice cleaning them with the power of our mind.

Hello and welcome to day four of our seven days of guided meditation.
This is Salima speaking and I'm very happy that you're joining me today.
I am going to go in a different direction than what we've been doing the past couple of days,
Which was practicing metta,
Or loving kindness.
And I'd like to do something that's a little more aligned with starting this year off,
And that is a chakra clearing.
So what are the chakras and why do we want to clear them?
The chakras are energy centres in the human energy field.
These are areas where generally we tend to either have an abundance of energy coming and going through,
Or there might be congestion or blockages in these areas all the way down the body.
The major ones are the ones that we usually do clearings for,
But there are about 300 chakras in the human energy field.
So quite a lot,
But we're going to focus on the major ones today.
You've learned reiki,
Usually your teacher will have taught you about the chakras in your course,
So you may already be familiar with these.
One of the reasons why this is a great thing to do towards the start of the year is because it's kind of like decluttering.
There's a clearing effect that can take place when we are practicing something like a chakra clearing.
If you are practicing mindfulness,
You might notice your mind wander away while I'm talking,
While I'm guiding you through today's session.
And if that's the case,
Just become aware,
Notice that the mind went to wander off,
Notice that the mind was thinking or busy,
Notice the feeling that came up in the heart.
And then gently,
Once you realize that,
You can return back to what we were doing.
So start again with wherever we are in the body.
Okay,
So this is a little bit ambitious for such a short meditation,
But I'm going to get started.
So as we begin,
Feel your body as it's sitting wherever it's sitting,
However it's sitting,
Let the posture be upright.
Let the body feel the support from whatever surfaces it's resting against.
Feel free to take a deep breath and lengthen the spine all the way up towards the sky.
And if you feel like it,
Bring your shoulders up towards the ears.
And on the exhale,
Release the shoulders,
Release the spine back and down.
We're going to start our chakra clearing at the bottom and go all the way up.
So feeling the support underneath you.
And bring to your mind a vivid,
Bright red color and breathe it right into your body.
Let it fill your entire being from the center of the chest out towards the shoulders,
Throat,
Belly,
Through the spine,
The hips,
All the way up to the top of the head and all the way out towards the fingers and toes.
Just feel as though you have plunged into a sea of red and you are now surrounded by red and you are now filled with red.
And let this red color be focused in the lower regions of the body from the feet all the way up to just below the hips.
So just below the pelvis.
What we are working with now is the root chakra and allowing ourselves to feel rooted,
Connected,
Supported by the earth.
Allowing ourselves to feel safe,
Secure.
The root chakra is responsible for balance in the lower regions of the body.
It's also on an energetic level responsible for our sense of security,
Stability,
Our feelings about survival.
So if there are concerns about finances or security or safety,
Feel that this area is now being strengthened.
Feel your safety,
Your sense of security,
Your sense of having a strong foundation,
Having balance and being supported.
Taking a few breaths and feeling that support on a physical level and feeling all of the support on an energetic level.
All the ways in which you are supported.
Taking one last breath and bringing the awareness into the pelvis and this time breathing in a beautiful,
Vibrant,
Wild orange colour.
Breathe it right into your entire being.
Feel as though it's flooding your entire being from top to bottom as though you've found yourself in a sea of wild,
Lush orange.
And it's filled you completely and allowed this orange to be focused at the pelvic region.
So the hips,
Lower back and the insides between the hips,
All of the reproductive organs,
The sex organs.
Breathing right into that area,
Feel the hip bones,
Feel the pelvis,
Sending the breath right down into those regions.
Feeling them strengthened,
Feeling the reproductive system strengthened,
Feeling the lower back strengthened.
And on an energetic level,
Feeling your sense of creativity strengthened.
Anything that you wish to bring into the world,
Whether it is on a physical level,
A child,
Or on an energetic level,
A project,
An idea that you want to give birth to.
Perhaps it's a book.
Perhaps you're starting a business.
Perhaps you want to build something.
Let yourself feel free to create,
Feel free to develop or bring into the world whatever it is that your heart fancies.
Let this area feel supported,
Feel strengthened,
Feel powerful,
Feel creative.
Sense that wild orange color.
You might even bring to mind the color of a beautiful ripe orange.
Really sense that feeling of the orange.
Taking one last breath in the pelvic region.
And now taking a deep breath and breathing right into the solar plexus,
Which is the chakra that lives right above the belly button.
So in the lower rib cage region.
Breathing in a bright vivid yellow.
The yellow of sunflowers,
The yellow of lemons.
Let your entire being be filled with yellow.
Bring to mind the most vibrant,
Beautiful,
Sunshiny yellow.
Breathe it right into the solar plexus,
The area that is a few inches above the navel.
And if you're hunched over a little,
Sit up straight.
On an energetic level,
This region,
This chakra is responsible for your self-confidence.
And on a physical level,
It's responsible for maintaining that digestive fire and for strengthening all of the physical organs inside the body,
Inside the trunk of the body.
Let yourself feel confident,
Strong,
Brave.
Allow yourself to think about the sun and the confidence that the sun exemplifies.
The sun just does what it does.
It just shines brightly.
It doesn't give a second thought to whom or what it reaches,
Its light can reach.
It just does what it does.
Let yourself be who you are.
Let yourself be free and feel confident in what you want to accomplish,
What you want to do in this one precious life that we have.
Whether it is something to do with work,
Whether it is something to do with family or relationships,
Whether it is something to do with your spiritual practice,
Take a deep breath and fill your entire belly with fresh oxygen.
Let yourself sit up straight and feel confident,
More confident than you have before.
Brave,
Courageous.
And on the next in-breath,
Breathe right into the center of the heart,
Not the physical heart,
But the center of the chest,
A beautiful,
Lush,
Vibrant green.
This is the green that is found in the rainforests,
A beautiful,
Vibrant,
Living green.
Breathe it right into your whole body,
Feel the energy of this green,
The aliveness of it,
The lush feeling that comes through the screen and fill the heart with it.
This is the green that helps us remember that we are connected to all living things,
To accept love and to receive love,
Which we have practiced yesterday and the day before,
With all living things,
Including ourself,
Allow your heart to feel open,
Awake,
Pure,
Kind,
Gentle to yourself and others,
Accepting of yourself and others,
Free from any mean,
Petty,
Angry,
Sad,
Suffering thoughts,
But allowing your heart to feel open,
Welcoming,
Connecting,
Connected.
Let yourself feel connected to all things,
All living beings,
No matter where they are or what they are,
All of nature,
All people.
And next,
Breathe right into the base of the throat,
A beautiful,
Deep blue,
Almost like a peacock blue,
Right into the throat.
Let yourself feel that you have been immersed in this beautiful,
Gorgeous blue and that this blue is focused in the throat area.
On a physical level,
This is where we find healing for the throat and all of the apparatus of the vocal system,
The shoulders,
The upper back,
Giving those shoulders a nice shrug and on an energetic level,
This is where we get our voice,
Our self-expression.
It doesn't just come from words,
But if there are words,
Feelings,
Thoughts,
If there are sounds,
Anything that hasn't been able to be expressed,
Let yourself express it now.
Open your mouth wide and say,
Ah,
Or take a deep breath in and let it out loudly,
Ah.
Any words,
Thoughts,
Feelings,
Any emotion,
Let yourself also feel free to express in other ways,
Feel at home in your body,
Feel expressive in your body,
Whether it's through dance,
Whether it's through how you dress yourself,
Any form of expression is governed by the throat chakra.
Let this area feel open,
Allow there to be space inside the throat,
Feeling that spaciousness inside the throat.
One more time,
Feeling free to open your mouth and if you can,
Wherever you are,
Make some sound.
And on the next in breath,
Bring your attention right in between the eyebrows and breathe right into that area,
A beautiful indigo.
This is the color of blue jeans.
Feel yourself surrounded by this indigo color and feel the indigo being breathed right in between the eyebrows.
This is the third eye chakra.
Breathing into this area and breathing out from this area gently,
Easily.
If you can't feel the area,
Just imagine the area.
The third eye is responsible on a physical level for all of our senses,
Eyes,
Ears,
Nose,
Taste,
Touch and the mental sense of knowing.
On an energetic level,
The third eye is responsible for our sense of intuition.
Allow yourself to know what you haven't allowed yourself to know before.
Release yourself from any feelings of inadequacy in this area.
Give yourself permission right now to trust your instincts,
To trust your gut.
Giving yourself this permission not because you want to use it to find out any secrets,
But because you want to become more aware,
More open and to allow this knowing sense to become more second nature.
Breathing in through the third eye and exhaling out through the third eye just for a few more breaths.
And finally,
Breathing right in from the crown of the head,
Feeling a beautiful violet color coming and pouring right in to the top of the head.
Breathe it in or welcome it in.
Feel as though the top of the head is a beautiful lotus open to the sky.
The crown is our center for spiritual connection and development.
All of our spiritual practice is centered around this area and on a physical level,
This area is responsible for our brain and higher functioning of the brain.
Having this area to feel peaceful,
To feel at ease,
To feel connected not just to all beings but to everything,
Past,
Present and future.
You have been alive for much longer,
Much more than just this one lifetime.
Know that you are wiser and you are here for a bigger purpose than you may have realized.
It's not just to have a good job and a family and to be a good citizen.
Everyone is endowed with the purpose to wake up,
To awaken,
To become wise,
To be able to sense and see and know this body and this mind and the truth of them in order to free ourselves from suffering,
Finally and completely.
Taking one more breath right in from the top of the head and come into your body feeling the support,
Feeling the breath and I'm inviting you to bring your hands together,
Thumbs towards the chest.
May we all be happy.
May we all be healthy.
May we all be peaceful.
May we all be free from suffering.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be peaceful.
May all beings be free from suffering.
And may all beings near or far,
Seen or unseen,
Known or unknown,
May all beings,
Each and every being,
Share in and benefit from the merits of our practice today.
