Cats embody a sense of grace, intuition, and tranquillity. Their ability to effortlessly shift from playfulness to serenity reflects a balance between activity and rest, mirroring the essence of Yoga Nidra - a calm alertness amidst deep relaxation. Incorporating the energy of cats during Yoga Nidra can enhance the experience. The imagery of cats resting peacefully, moving gracefully, or exhibiting their natural intuition can be woven into guided visualizations, creating a more profound sense of tranquillity and connection with the self. Cats are intuitive creatures that guide us to embrace silence, intuition, and self-reflection. By tapping into this feline wisdom during Yoga Nidra, practitioners can learn to trust their intuition, find stillness, and journey inward to explore their inner landscapes.

Welcome to your yoga nidra practice.

Lay on your back with your arms a bit away from your body in a neutral position.

If you're sitting in your chair,

Look for your neutral position there.

Have your arms relax in your lap or maybe supported by the chair.

If you're laying down,

Press your arms into the floor and allow the chest to rise as your shoulder blades hug into your back.

Release back down and let your eyes settle in the sockets.

Lips part and then the back of your tongue drop away from the roof of your mouth.

Allow the fingertips to gentle curl in and your feet to flop.

Feel your body release into the earth.

You want to remain as still as you can for this practice,

So take your time to letting go and making any adjustments you need.

You are welcome to move at any time during the practice to make sure you're comfortable.

Try and move slowly and keep your eyes closed as you do.

Remember,

It's better to get comfortable than to lie in distraction and in discomfort.

As we begin the practice of Yoga Nidra,

Don't worry about what you should be feeling or how deep you are going to go.

Tell yourself that you're going to listen to the sound of my voice and you are going to remain awake.

Tune into your sense of hearing to the sounds around you.

Take in the most distant sounds you can hear,

Something outside of this room,

As far out as you can hear.

No need to seek it out.

Open your awareness to reality.

No need to seek it out.

Open your awareness to receive.

Acknowledge and release.

Jump from one sound to the next.

Now move in a little closer to this room.

Perhaps the sounds within the walls,

Floors.

And again,

Jump from sound to sound.

Move in closer.

Sounds within your body,

Your breath,

Your heartbeat.

As you move to the inner landscape of your mind,

Allow there to be a sense of coming home here,

Of turning in.

A safety.

A comfort.

Remind yourself that you are going to stay awake.

You are going to listen to the sound of my voice and stay awake.

If at any time you need to change the story,

My words,

The awareness or leave the practice,

You are welcome to do so.

You are in charge and can open your eyes at any time and re-enter at any time.

We are going to begin to move through a rotation of consciousness through the body,

Using a relaxing and healing golden light.

Your body will remain still and the mind will rest in each part I mention.

If you can't see it or feel it,

Silently repeat my words as we work through the body.

Bring your awareness into the crown of your head and see the light shining down onto the crown.

It pours down over the forehead.

It spreads across your right eyebrow and across the left eyebrow.

The point between your brows.

Your brain.

The conscious mind is bathed in this relaxing light.

Healing golden light.

It shines into the subconscious mind and fills the unconscious mind.

The light shines out,

Bathing the right eye and the left eye.

It lands on top of your nose and flows down to the tip,

Filling the right nostril and the left nostril.

Golden light fills the right cheek and left cheek.

Spreading down,

It fills the lips.

Relaxing and healing light spreads through your teeth,

Tongue,

Roof of the mouth and it spills over your chin,

Tracing the jawline up.

Wrapping around the ears,

Filling them in golden light.

The light begins to flow around into the back of your head,

Down your neck,

Wrapping around to the front of your neck,

Bathing the whole head in light.

Golden light.

Bring this light to your hands now.

Golden light spills into the thumbs,

Second fingers,

Third fingers,

Fourth fingers and fifth fingers.

Place the light into the palms of your head.

Healing and relaxing light.

It spreads over the forearms and into the elbow creases,

Rising through the upper arms,

Over the shoulders and through the collarbones.

Healing light shines into the chest,

Down through the belly and into the hip creases.

Golden light shines down to the front of your thighs,

Bathing the knees,

Joints and shining through the chins.

It flows into the front of the ankles and over the top of your feet and relaxing light drips down into the big toes,

Second toes,

Third toes,

Fourth toes and fifth toes.

Golden light swirls through the soles of the feet and over the heels up to the back of the ankles and into the calves.

The light rises through the back of the knees and up the back of the thighs,

Over the buttocks and fills the lower back.

It shines over the mid-back and upper back,

Light washes over the shoulder blades and down to the upper arms,

Over the elbows and back to the forearms,

Filling the backs of the wrists and the backs of your hands in this beautiful golden light.

See the healing golden light flooding the whole body,

The whole body together,

The whole body.

Keeping your breath as it is,

Following its own rhythm,

Rest your attention in your belly.

Watch the gentle rise and fall,

Begin the count to backward from 27.

An inhale and then an exhale is 27.

The belly rises and falls,

26.

Follow your breath.

If you forget you are here,

Just start over again.

You are counting backwards from 27.

If you lost your place,

Just start over again.

Now let go of the counting.

It doesn't matter how far you got.

Just let it go and remind yourself that you are going to stay awake.

You are going to listen to the sound of my voice.

And if you drift off,

You will come back when you remember.

Begin to awaken the sensation of heaviness in your body.

Let your body grow heavier and heavier with each passing moment.

It is as though you were being filled up with sand.

Your heels are heavy.

Your legs are heavy.

Your hips are heavy.

Your spine is heavy.

Your arms are heavy.

Your head is so heavy.

You couldn't even lift a finger if you tried.

Awaken the sensation of heaviness in your whole body.

Now awaken the sensation of lightness in your body.

Feel as if the sands were leaving the body and you are being filled up with air.

So light.

Floating from the ground,

Your heels are light.

Your legs are light.

Your hips are light.

Your spine is so light.

Arms light and the head is light.

You are floating like you are weightless.

Awaken the sensation of lightness.

The whole body light.

Begin to awaken that feeling.

Just float and feel the lightness in your body.

Begin to awaken and sense of feeling grounded.

Perhaps you can recall a time you felt very grounded and allow that feeling to come back.

Now release the story but keep the feelings and sensation that come up with being grounded.

Where does it live in the body?

What does it call up in your mind?

Are you grounded emotionally?

Grounded physically?

What are the feelings and sensations that arise for you with being grounded?

Awaken the feeling of being grounded.

Now release that feeling.

And awaken a feeling of being scattered.

You can call upon a memory that brings in a feeling of being scattered.

Now release the story.

Where does the feeling of being scattered land in your body?

What else is traveling with it?

How does it feel in the mind?

In the heart?

Awaken the sensation of scattered.

Being scattered.

Now release this feeling and reawaken the sensation of being grounded again.

Feel it in your body.

Being grounded.

Let go of this sensation and tap back into being scattered.

Being scattered in your body.

Now let go of the feeling of being scattered and go back to being grounded.

Tap into the feeling of being grounded in your body.

And invite at the same time the feeling of being scattered.

Being scattered.

Being grounded.

Being grounded.

Being scattered.

Try to awake both of them at the same time.

Now we will begin to let go of both sensations at the same time.

Just reconnect with your breath and being here with your body.

Just follow the sound of my voice and know that all my words are invitations for you to follow.

If they don't feel right,

Just let them pass by.

We will begin to move quickly through some different images.

Clear the screen of your mind and allow whatever wants to come up to move up spontaneously.

Without attachment,

Without emotion or story.

It may be an image,

But it could be a smell or a sound or a feeling.

Allow it to float up and then release.

Moving on to the next image with me.

Snow-capped mountains.

Ships sailing on the high sea.

An ancient temple.

Waves lapping against the shore.

Children laughing.

A red and golden sunset.

The hot springs in mid-winter.

Smell of fresh rain.

A gentle touch.

A warm hug.

A forest of evergreens.

Butterfly garden.

A cup of hot chocolate.

Crisp and sweet.

Crisp red apple.

Sand in your toes.

Golden square.

Golden egg.

Digging in the garden.

A single candle flame.

Sounds of prayer.

Bells ringing.

The feeling of complete joy.

A family of elephants bathing.

Elephants bathing.

Family dinner.

Unconditional love.

Trust.

Safety.

Peace.

Remind yourself that you are going to stay awake.

Listen to the sound of my voice.

And if you drift off,

Just come back when you remember.

Now see yourself sitting in a beautiful,

Relaxing armchair.

This chair is moving back and forth.

And it's a calming feeling.

The rocking motion is relaxing your whole body.

You feel supported.

You feel calm.

While you're sitting in this beautiful rocking chair,

This beautiful black cat jumps off your lap.

It is purring hard.

And he climbs all the way up to your face.

And it's putting his cheek against your cheek.

Feel how your hands are going over this little kitten's body.

And this cat is showing so much love for the attention that it's giving you.

It's putting this beautiful big smile on your face.

In the beginning it's a bit hard to keep track of the cat,

Because it's trying to find your hand.

It's moving on your chest and then moving on your legs.

It's rolling on its back,

Having all four paws up,

So you can give this cat a beautiful belly rub.

You feel with every breath that you're taking you're getting more and more relaxed.

The cat is slowly calming down and finding its perfect position on your lap.

You feel how your hands are just stroking the cat.

And together you're getting into this beautiful rhythm.

And with every stroke,

With every cuddle,

The purrs get louder and louder.

The sound of the cat is helping you to relax deeper and deeper.

It's helping you to breathe really deep in your belly and just sigh.

Together with rocking in your chair and cuddling this cat,

You feel how you're completely getting into a relaxed zone.

Just take your time and be here for a moment.

Being relaxed and calm.

You feel this invitation to also connect with your own sound by taking a deep breath in and to breathe out.

Notice that it's all beautiful in balance.

The rhythm,

The movement,

Your breath and being here with this beautiful black cat.

Here you are ready to work with your sankalpa,

A seed or an intention.

If you all have already one,

You will continue using it until it manifests in your life.

If you are looking for one,

It is a quality that you are looking to bring into your life,

Something that you feel strongly connected to,

That you are deeply desiring,

Something you feel an emotional connection to.

Your sankalpa will be stated as if it's already in existence of your life.

It would be put in positive terms.

Some examples are I am making healthy choices.

I give and receive love unconditionally.

I trust my intuition and know that I have everything I need.

When you have found your sankalpa,

See it being written across the screen of your mind three times in your handwriting.

But your sankalpa also may come in different forms,

Like an image or a sound.

Just take a moment to see,

Hear,

Sense it clearly.

When you have embraced your sankalpa,

Allow your breath to begin to deepen.

Feel yourself slowly coming back into your room,

To your space,

To your body.

Wiggle your fingers and point and flex your feet.

Stretch your arms overhead.

And if you're laying down,

Draw your knees in and roll to the side.

Gently make your way onto a sitting position and take a pause here.

If you're sitting in the chair,

Keep your eyes closed for a moment.

But put your hands on your heart and take a deep breath in.

Honor yourself for coming today to this practice.

And thank you for letting me be your guide.

Slowly open your eyes and feel your grateful heart.

And welcome back.

Namaste.
