The secret to organizing your home is at your fingertips. You don't have to be born with this gift. Getting organized is a skill that anyone can learn. Start by visualizing your space exactly how you want it to be. Then get to work, room by room, identifying what you truly love and use regularly and donating the rest - no regrets. Your home becomes more in a state of "flow" as all the physical clutter disappears around you and you fall in love with your serene space!

Hello.

My name is Ruma and I would like to welcome you to this Serene Spaces visualization.

Is the chaos that is consumerism taking over your life?

You and only you have complete control over your surroundings.

Imagine feeling more with having less,

Less stuff,

And more time to do things you truly want to do in your life.

This all starts at home.

As you walk into your home,

How do you feel right now?

Are your spaces overrun with items spilling out of cupboards,

Piled up on desks,

No place to set down your personal effects at the end of a hard day,

A living room couch with no place to sit and relax,

The kitchen sink always filled with dirty dishes,

Beds that are never made,

Laundry never put away.

If this sounds like your current space,

I would like to help you change this not only in reality,

But also in your mind right now and picture the way that it should and could be for you on a regular basis.

Let's take a visual journey together to your Serene Spaces and the place you call home.

Now take a soft,

Natural breath and allow your entire body to relax into a comfortable seated position.

Your feet may be on the floor,

They may be cross-legged.

Just make sure you are completely comfortable and really sink into your space.

Take a soft,

Natural breath and allow your creativity to flow.

As you walk into your lovely home,

It is awash in sunlight.

The floors and windows shine as the sun hits them through the sparkling windows.

The beautiful rugs are warm and cozy underfoot.

The expansive floor area is clean and free of any clutter.

You have a place in your hall closet already set to put your purse or wallet and keys away soon after you walk in.

The walls are a lovely,

Soothing tone.

Maybe they are honey yellow,

Daffodil blue,

Mocha latte,

Creme brulee,

Whatever your favorite color might be.

Just imagine that right now.

As you walk into your kitchen to put the kettle on for tea,

You see that all countertops are wiped clean and the fridge,

Cupboards,

And pantry are orderly and organized.

Your everyday use appliances are on the countertops,

Sparking clean and free from any dirt or oily residue and ready for you to use whenever you need them.

Cooking in this kitchen is a joy because everything has a home and you know where everything should be when you need it.

You love cooking clean,

Healthy food in this clean kitchen.

Even your health is better now because you are cooking at home more often.

You move into your bedroom to change and get into your lounge wear.

You reach for your favorite lounge items that are in a nice neat pile,

Ready for you to grab.

You easily hang the clothes that just need to be aired out and you immediately place the rest in the laundry in their respective baskets of lights,

Darks,

Or colors.

You walk back to the kitchen to pour your tea and allow it to steep while you head over to your living room to light some candles.

You easily set out your yoga mat so that you may practice a few poses before you sink into your couch for a little me time.

The couch area is a dream with cushy pillows and warm throws to envelope you in warmth and relaxation.

After your last salutation pose is done to perfection,

You grab your cup of tea and just sink into your couch to enjoy it.

You enjoy this moment of joy and peace before you start your evening adventure.

Your evening concludes with cooking yourself a healthy meal,

Watching a fun show or two,

Reading,

Writing,

Drawing,

Painting,

Whatever it may be that you enjoy doing to recharge and restore for the next day.

After the kitchen is quickly cleaned and the living area tidied up,

You throw in a load of laundry to stay on top of things and take your evening shower.

You prep as much as possible so that your next day can go smooth.

You are almost ready for a restful and restorative sleep and revel in your perfect day.

Now take a deep breath.

Open your eyes slowly and realize that when you take this time to transform your environment,

You will slowly but surely transform yourself.

I encourage you to be more with less.

Declutter your spaces and free your brain of all the chaos that may be around you right now.

Allow yourself to live in a serene space where everything in it are things that you love,

Enjoy and need in your life.

Namaste.

I have struggled for years with organizing and scheduling. I have finally made some insightful and effective discoveries, but the road is still quite bumpy and I have still not had a clear vision of how it will turn out. I have even tried room-by-room visualization before, but it wasn't very successful. This practice, though.... This resonated with me. There were a few prompts for visualization that highlighted for me the difference between what I like to look at versus what makes me feel "at home." The clean counters, etc - lovely to look at...in a display home. That doesn't feel like "home" to me though, and I suddenly realized I have been aiming for a standard set by others, not what works for me. I like clean and neat, but I need to SEE my items. This gives me peace and satisfaction, knowing where things are with a glance, not wondering if I have something because I put it away behind closed doors somewhere. The room to room walkthrough - but within the context of an actual routine progression of daily activities - helped me far more than my own efforts ever have. I was reminded of how less stressed I was back when I did advance prep for the day ahead. I was reminded of how much more free time I can have if I take a few minutes to prepare and maintain. And for the first time in a long while, I felt at peace with my home, as I did this visualization. So much so that I did not open my eyes when instructed. I didn't want to lose that sense of peace and hope and optimism by seeing the work to be done to get there. Obviously, I did open my eyes. 😊 But what has stuck with me is that jolt if realization that I have been unsuccessful in my efforts because I am trying to achieve a visual goal set by others, not myself. Working towards someone else's ideal, not my own. Yes, it looks nice, and I appreciate that look, but that does not make MY heart sing. I am working towards decluttering with a slow move towards a more minimalist lifestyle, and perhaps at some point my own vision of what feels good to me and that society image will move closer together as a result. For now, however, I am inspired to re-download one of the the three books that have guided my path most successfully (this one is in audiobook format, though I have other books of hers in print and e-book). I want to take another listen as I take one hour, no more, no less, to look online for visual examples of organizational techniques that feel good for me for one single room, and focus there first. Create a virtual "vision board," if you will. A nice reminder I can look at to renew my inspiration, a bookmark to return to when the overwhelm strikes or that next Bright Shiny Object or Big New Idea comes my way and tries to distract me. This practice also, as a secondary benefit, helps crystalize a bit more in my mind the way I want to continue to develop my work/life balance and objectives. This practice really packed a punch for me, in a very short amount of time. Bookmarked and downloaded! Thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful practice with us here in the Insight Timer community. I see you and the light within you. Be well. 🤲🏻❤️🤲🏻

Thanks and nice sentiment, but the visualization feels impossibly disconnected from my current reality with two young kids at home, full time job and the weight of homeschooling during the COVID-19 pandemic. Edit: Thank you so much Ruma for the compassionate and helpful response. I'll look into your suggestions. In fact, since I listened to this practice I've already made some changes in my space, so clearly this practice had more of an impact on me than I thought!
