I'm Shanti and welcome soul to soul.

My name is Rose and I'm from the Brahma Kumaris in Glasgow and tonight we're going to look at the call of silence.

A very wonderful topic for us people who are meditating and we see that silence nourishes,

That silence is sweet and that silence feels like home.

So it is important actually to create a space for silence.

It is actually crucial for having a healthy mind.

I can learn to make the mind soft and calm,

However this takes practice but it can be a very beautiful experience.

We don't have to force our mind to stop but once you see the benefits of silence you will want to return there again and again.

It can be like a breath of fresh air.

Silence can feel very energising and refreshing.

Our very life is for expression and interaction but it's good if we stop regularly and reflect and reassess where we're at.

Am I remembering the benefit of stillness and silence?

That's good if I check this.

Maybe if we go a bit off course we may need to redirect and throughout the day we can do this.

We just have to slow down the traffic of racing thoughts and check where are my thoughts taking me because in any situation,

Doesn't matter who we're with or what's happening or how uncomfortable the situation is,

I can be very creative and keep myself safe and still be interacting in a very friendly and natural way.

Do I have a clear destination in mind?

Because my destination will be to create a calm,

Safe atmosphere,

Remembering that I'm the one that can do this.

Maybe whatever my company is,

Maybe they're not in that position but I can.

If I can remember peace,

Kindness,

Harmony,

Truth,

Respect,

Courage,

Optimism.

Remember I am a soul.

Nothing that's physical is mine forever and it's now that I know that I belong to the one above,

The divine God and it will become natural and enjoyable to explore the power of silence.

I can pay attention but check that I'm not feeling tension.

When I know I'm a soul then the purpose of my life is to bring about benefit to everyone,

Wherever I am,

Whoever I'm with.

And it's when I am peaceful that I store power and I need that power to do actions whilst remaining peaceful.

If I can keep the one above as my friend and my companion and if I overthink and the mind is wandering here and there then I will lose power.

And when I remember silence I will feel power within myself and I'll understand that wandering here and there is a feeling that's actually quite alien to me and I may get sad and anxious.

It's really important to experience stillness and peace before any working day or before I do anything in the day,

At the beginning of every day.

It is this power of silence that's like a medicine that can heal and refresh me.

Silence is our original energy.

Everything I think and do comes from my energy of silence.

So to put a big,

Big value on my silence power and sometimes people can think in ourselves as well and speak so fast.

It's good to encourage myself to slow down,

Think more slowly and speak more slowly.

Actually listening to myself speak is a good way to see how fast I'm thinking because if I speak fast I'm also thinking fast and if I think fast and speak fast I'm not in control of my energy.

I cannot stop what I'm thinking or saying and then I'll say I wish I hadn't said or if only I had said or whatever.

So it's good to think more slowly and speak more slowly and then I know what I'm saying and why I'm saying what I mean by saying what I'm saying and I can be more helpful to myself but to anyone else that I'm interacting with and just check where my thoughts are taking me and slow down the traffic of erasing thoughts.

Silence is calling you in your natural soul.

Vibrations,

That is the silence of the soul,

Touches others and souls love silence.

So even against people's conscious wish or understanding that they're even being touched by silence they will enjoy.

Even they don't really know but something will be happening because it's our original natural vibration,

Our energy of peace and that call of silence nourishes and it keeps our mind healthy and fresh and I can learn to make the mind soft and calm and with regular practice I can experience and enjoy this beautiful feeling of stillness and calm inside.

Everyone loves someone who is calm so in any situation and actually out there there's a lot of situations that are quite disturbed and if there's someone within that who is calm it changes the whole scene and life is for expressing and interacting with others and we have the opportunity to be very uplifting,

Loving,

Kindly,

Calm,

Thoughtful,

Optimistic and peaceful people to be around and to keep remembering that we belong to the one above and pay attention again we say but don't do the best not to feel tense not to feel tension because our purpose is to bring benefit to everyone.

Peace restores my power.

This wonderful energy of peace and calm gives me back my strength and I never lose that power once I generate that power.

I may start to focus in a disturbed way and think I've lost my power but my power is still there and I can add to that power of peace every day and I need that power to perform actions and remain calm and it's an energy that belongs to I the soul.

If I can keep the one above as my friend and my companion it can help me to stop wandering here and there because if I wander here and there I'll lose my power.

I won't lose that which I have generated but at that moment I won't be adding more to my peace.

I'll be back into a bit of disturbance and adding to my disturbance and sometimes we make it sad and anxious and we will feel that silence is not so easy.

It will seem to be very far away because I'll be caught up in the moment of that feeling of being anxious but as quick as I can if I can pull myself back to experience stillness just pull it back and to remember the beginning of the day is when I can feel that and store up that power of silence by being with the one above the divine and I can experience the silence to be like a medicine that can heal and refresh me.

It restores the best of me and me.

It gives me a new vision of looking out into the world.

I can see the world with fresh eyes and try not to speak too fast but seeing that I am speaking fast is very useful because it tells me my mind is also thinking too fast.

So if I go into silence again and again I want to return to the silence because it is like a breath of fresh air.

It's refreshing,

It's energizing but also we have to stop and regularly have a look and see where I'm at.

Have I been getting too caught up in what's happening out there or have I been remembering or let me just stop for a minute and pull myself back into that space of stillness,

Silence.

Slow down my thoughts,

Have a look at my destination.

Let me look,

Let me just grab something,

Peace,

Kindness,

Harmony,

The truth,

What's the truth,

Respect,

Courage,

Optimism.

I am a soul and that nothing of the physical world actually belongs to me forever or has it ever really belonged to me because I'm a soul and I belong to the Divine,

The One Above and I want to bring benefit to everyone and to every situation and the more I practice this the more I'll feel success but I'm doing better and I'm doing my best and I'm achieving because the more I become silent the more and more I have that power over myself and the more I have the One Above God as my companion I'll feel myself to be most fortunate and I will experience that silence like a medicine heals and refreshes me and gives me back my dignity.

I'm chanting.

You've been practicing silence for a long time but for someone starting it seems so opposite when we're almost trained to fill every second with some stimulus,

Some entertainment,

Some thought and so it can seem almost like a void but you described it as sweet.

Could you say something about moving into that experience that it's a sweet silence not empty silence?

When we've been overactive it does cause an unpleasant feeling in our head especially if we get worried or whatever and even at the beginning if I don't know too much about silence but I just have a stillness of letting go these thoughts of worry it is like a relief a breath of fresh air that's me back at the beginning time and knowing that that breath of fresh air even for a second or if someone's been quite unkind and you're quite upset and for a second you can stop thinking about that and feel the relief of silence and peace and it teaches me and it makes me perhaps want to go back there again and again and as I go back again again a second a second a second a second and build it up and actually sometimes bad experiences are a bonus because I'm so glad to know that I can just stop thinking about it too much even I stopped think a little just just go into a bit of stillness inside my head for just a short time what I'm doing for myself is for that short time instead of worrying about the disturbance I'm encouraged myself to just feel it's okay talk to myself it's okay it's okay soothe myself with my words and my thoughts and that is building my silence so if I do this over a period of time I will be accumulating that power of silence okay I'm shanty and anything else another one well you said sometimes bad experiences can actually be beneficial because they point me to the desperate need for silence so it's as if you're saying like challenges will keep coming so not to think I'm not doing it right this is probably one of the most common questions how do I know I'm doing it right so even if I have a lot of challenges coming it's like silence will support me and as I move through the challenges well if we're looking at when we begin and we could think that all the challenges are dreadful things and I've failed because I'm I'm having all these challenges and I'm not sure if I'm succeeding but the very fact that you have challenges challenges are the way forward actually without a challenge and without thinking of something doesn't matter what it is to begin with you do something that will take you over that hurdle in whatever way you can you get better and better and better at it I have to say but the challenge means you've done something about the situation and that gives you a good energy which can move you forward in your life and your energy and if you get round to thinking of the one above it you're probably too focused on your challenge at that point in time but you're doing something good for yourself start with just looking at where you're at in life and looking at so am I going to do something about this am I going to suffer it am I going to complain am I going to have ways thoughts or I'm going to think I'll just stay here and I'll be stuck by this obstacle going over it for years telling it as a story for years or am I going to think something a bit more useful and move through it and above it and feel myself having been empowered by understanding rather than daunted by the obstacle start from where you're at yeah or you'll tell everybody the story for years and you'll feel sadder and sadder and heavier and heavier yeah and the really practical point of if I speak too fast I think I'm thinking too quickly yeah so it's a really easy check very easy the obstacles that come to us will come through force and force is the opposite to silence and the softness that's in my original nature is the soft nourishing gentle flexibility of kindness and truth and peace and that's why the softness and silence if I think of all these lovely things and I learned to speak to myself in that kind little loving soft non forceful non aggressive way that's akin to silence also it is very unique that's why it's powerful yeah because it's the opposite that's why we say don't look out there too much but pull yourself back in longing longing for that okay so we'll do even a minute a minute meditation so don't force your mind to stop but think of the nourishment and think of the sweetness and think that silence feels like home my original home is the home of silence encouraged my mind to be soft and calm and appreciate the beauty of the stillness inside me encourage yourself to feel that it's such a relief so that you'll want to return to that silence again and again because I am a soul and my nature is peace stillness lightness softness um shahn't he
