
Meditation Made Easy

In Raja Yoga, we describe the being as a point of light – like a star radiating light. That is what the ‘being’ part of us is. Light is energy, and the energy of the being drives the body. We might think of the brain in the body like the engine of a car – it has immense potential power – and we might think of food as the fuel that powers that engine. But can a car function without a driver? No. In the same way, the body cannot function without a being to drive it.

So we need to know how to meditate.
So I'll start with some basic points and if you think about this and practice it,
Actually they're the same things we were sharing in the office that we're practicing every day.
It's simplicity actually,
There's lots of over-the-top thoughts and can get carried away with how clever we are and all the rest of it,
But it's back to basics,
Always back to basics.
It's very easy.
The first thing is we do our best to keep our eyes open.
There's a reason for that because it keeps you aware and it means you can be practicing this whilst you're walking up and down,
While you're at your business,
While you're in Tesco's,
Whatever,
You stay aware of what's happening inside and outside.
So keep that in practice.
So either if someone's sitting here,
You look at their forehead and if not,
Do your best to look at the point of light.
Otherwise you'll fall asleep.
It's very easy to fall asleep.
It's not so easy to keep your eyes open.
But you can't do it all the time.
You do as best you can and it will become a habit and you'll find that you do it no matter what.
The first thing is to encourage,
Teach yourself to relax because you've come somewhere safe.
It's a safe place.
So to relax,
Totally relax.
And then we become aware that we are energy in the centre of our forehead.
That energy's called the soul.
Every human being on the planet is a soul.
And what's the wonder of the soul?
The soul is our life energy.
It does everything and records everything that ever happens to me.
That's where I get my memories from.
The soul is the energy that keeps the body alive,
That keeps the brain functioning,
Keeps the heart moving.
And the nature of the self is the soul,
The energy of the soul is peace.
So every soul on the planet's original nature is peace.
So we can see what's happened now then.
Because as we live in a physical world,
We get used to the physical.
We develop habits attached to the physical.
We think,
Anything I need I have to look for the physical solution.
There has to be a solution physically.
And therefore we forget that we are the soul and the soul goes on to the back burner.
And it still keeps us alive.
We get stress through the physical interactions.
We get worry.
We get fear.
We get trauma.
All physical because,
What if I lose this?
What if I don't get this?
What if I can't do this?
Oh gosh,
I don't know what to do now.
So we start to look at everything physically.
And when I do that,
I forget,
I've completely forgotten that I'm the energy,
The power.
So this energy of peace,
Which is our original nature,
Has everything within it.
Everything within it.
All our strength,
All our courage,
All our love,
Our kindness,
Everything.
All our thoughts of beauty,
Our skills,
Our lovely things in our nature,
Helping others.
Everything comes from peace.
And as I lose my peace and get more caught up in the fear of loss and looking for physical solutions,
Then I lose my happiness.
I lose my ability to smile.
I lose my feelings of trust and friendship and everything that's valuable in life.
I become weak in the body.
I can become ill also in the body.
And also again we look for physical solutions.
And physical solutions for the physical body are okay,
Because it's a physical body.
But then I become dependent emotionally on the physical.
And I forget there's also another solution as well.
That's to become peaceful and still.
And remember my power,
Because we have it,
It has never disappeared.
Remember my power.
It's on the back burner,
But I can start to bring it and encourage it to come to the front.
Remember my feelings of relaxed.
Speak to myself inside,
Everything's okay.
Everything's okay.
Be patient.
Patience will have gone as well.
Teach myself to be patient.
Courage myself.
No one can do that for me,
Because it's an inside journey.
No one else is inside your head.
You may have conversations inside your head with someone else.
You may have visualizations inside your head of someone else.
But it's you that's doing that.
No one else is inside your head except you.
So when I start to put myself into the proper position and talking to myself,
Teach myself to talk kindly,
Because we don't talk kindly to ourselves.
We say,
We better do this,
We better do that.
Quick,
Quick.
Oh,
I've not got much time.
Hurry up,
Hurry up.
I have to do this.
Oh,
I can't do it.
Oh gosh,
What's the point?
That's how we talk to ourselves.
So we need to start talking to ourselves as you would talk to a beautiful friend that's cherished,
Someone that has lovely qualities,
Which I've forgotten that I have them.
That's why we do meditation,
To bring the real me back to myself and thereby back into the world.
And then I can understand people around me and I don't need to get annoyed with people around me because there but for fortune I was doing the same thing.
I don't need to get angry or upset.
I can just stay calm and think,
Okay,
This will pass.
Just don't upset the person any further,
The one that's getting really angry.
It doesn't mean that you allow yourself for someone to hurt you,
But if you practice being a soul,
That won't happen because when you become still,
It has an effect on someone who's angry because they're also a soul,
But they're under a big influence.
So the qualities of the soul,
So you have the awareness when you sit down that you're energy,
You're the soul and the qualities are peace,
Love.
These are the simple things to remember.
Peace.
Everything comes from peace.
Love.
Everything comes from love,
Kindness,
Happiness.
Everything comes from happiness,
Smiles,
Friendliness,
Light,
Enthusiasm,
Support.
All sorts of things come.
You help yourself,
You also can help others.
So we meditate and we keep the positive spiritual thoughts flowing.
When we meditate,
Try to think that you are that energy,
But focus on this light energy.
It's like a tiny point of light in the center of the brain.
When I start to become soul conscious,
My brain gets power.
When I'm angry,
Fed up,
Feel no success,
My brain's losing power.
Even my brain loses power.
It's not getting fed energy.
We might take things,
Which nowadays say if you take this,
Take that,
And physically the actual brain can be kept a bit more healthy.
But as far as spiritual energy,
The energy,
The soul lightens the brain as well.
So keep positive spiritual thoughts flowing when you sit down for meditation.
Just sit down calmly and peacefully and safe.
You're safe.
When you're here,
You've come to a safe place.
And wherever you are,
When you start to practice this,
You're creating a safe environment for yourself wherever you are.
And the other thing is not just when you're here do you practice this,
But as you're going home,
You think about it,
Gosh,
Oh,
I could walk more strongly,
I walk confidently,
I walk with more strength.
You think of the soul and the qualities of the soul.
And throughout the day you're working busily,
You're doing whatever you're doing,
But you remind yourself from time to time,
Just it's okay.
I can actually practice that.
I can actually become that.
I can do that.
All the different qualities you need in your life,
Don't think,
Oh,
I can't do that.
I've never been able to do that.
Of course you can.
It's your natural nature.
So keep the thoughts of especially silence.
Just have to think silence,
Silence,
Silence,
Silence.
When I think that,
Nothing else is there at the time except silence.
Nothing else comes in and that's bringing your power back because the things that might have gone in there didn't go in,
Only silence.
So I keep thinking of silence,
Silence,
And then energy,
Energy from the power of the center of my forehead.
Energy.
I am energy.
I am peaceful,
Loving,
Happy,
Energy,
Strong.
I have courage.
I'm strong.
And I have faith.
To begin with,
Who do you have faith in when we do this?
You get faith in yourself.
Faith in yourself.
Everything you will ever need is in there.
We've come a long journey.
You're still here.
You must have had loads of skills and strengths and courage and kindness that you practiced on your journey.
But as time goes by,
A lot of it fades into worry and fear and uncertainty.
But you can stop that uncertainty and bring back your courage and your strength.
The discovery of the inner being.
Sitting quietly,
My body calm,
Relaxed,
And still,
I turn inwards.
I know that my eternal identity is not of my physical costume.
My physical body is simply an instrument that I use.
At this moment,
For a little while,
I would like to find out more about the being that is actually operating this physical instrument.
In the quietness,
I can feel the source of life shining,
Radiating light in the center of my forehead.
I come back to the identity of my eternal self.
This is who I am.
No matter how my body may change,
No matter how the circumstances of life may change,
No matter how relationships change or even how the world changes,
I am eternally a being of light.
Within all the changing factors of the universe,
I am constant.
I am a point of light with peace,
With love.
Within my own being,
I am the source of life itself.
Turning inwards and discovering myself,
I realize how I had become a stranger to myself.
I had forgotten myself,
And so I had not been able to love myself.
And now,
Discovering myself,
I begin to make friends with myself.
I acknowledge the value of my own existence,
The beauty of my own being.
And in this recognition,
I once more begin to love myself and respect myself.
