Bigger, better, faster, more. Do you feel full? More, more, more. The more we get, the less value it has? Meditation encourages us to look at energy. The energy we are familiar with is the outside energy. But what about my inner resources? For many births, we have the characteristics of expecting everything to come to us from outside. Whatever comes to us physically prompts our feelings of happiness or sadness. We are dependant on the outside. People press our buttons.

I'm Shanti and welcome to Soul to Soul and my name is Rose from the Brahma Kumaris in Glasgow and tonight we're going to look at finding fullness.

So I thought first of all we'll look at what do we mean and why are we wanting to find fullness.

Everything comes at its own time.

Every single thing in the drama has a fashion and a time space and as human beings we have looked and researched about everything on the planet.

We've even looked at the stars and the moon and the oceans and all the different animal life,

Diet and health and exercise and music and dance and art,

Different countries.

We've looked at everything but still we don't feel full.

We're always wanting,

Looking,

Searching.

We may have changed into all different groups of people to find if they have the answer and Raj yoga,

We're lucky enough to be listening to things from Raj yoga because Raj yoga says you have to find yourself.

We've been so busy looking out there we've forgotten to look at ourselves and we might think but I look at myself every day and I tidy myself and make myself look what I'm supposed to look like to play the part and I spend a lot of time and energy and money on myself but it's the inner self,

The energy that creates our personality and right now what's happened to us we've created habits where we want to everything bigger,

Better,

Faster,

More,

More,

More and we're never satisfied because there's something in us that is an energy that's never happy with what we are.

So the more we get the less value it has and so it's when I have meditation and I start to look inside and have a touch of stillness and silence this encourages us to look at our energy the way we are our day the few minutes before we sat down what kind of moods I was in how many thoughts I had how many ways thoughts of others at the thoughts of the self even what it is that's it's making me feel upset so meditation encourages us to look at energy and at the moment this word energy encourages us to be familiar with the outside energy and as yoga says what about my inner resources because for many births we have the characteristics of expecting everything to come to us from outside where is it what is it can I afford it when will it arrive who am I going to see what's going to happen so whatever comes to us physically prompts our feelings of happiness or sadness oh oh I feel so sorry that's happened that's all my day is gone I feel oh despair oh that's my job what we're going to do yeah all of these things are important I'm not making these things unimportant whichever comes to us physically prompts our feelings of happiness or sadness and we become dependent over a long period of time I can't think it I mean it seems strange to think of it in any other way we become dependent on the outside and people who tick the boxes as if we are puppets they smile we smile they're not nice we're not nice back or we get hurt so that's the way it is that's the way it is so it's where does Raj yoga come in it's the season for us finding out who we are it's the season so we've created many personality traits of waiting for prompts coming to us from outside and it feels so real and natural for that to be happening and so it can take time to let all that settle and I start to take more and more time to appreciate who we are because if the prompts are absent we then can wonder what to do what can I do you know they're speaking to me there's nothing happening I'm oh gosh what can I do and we start looking for something that might prompt us into action and feeling better not saying don't do that but just realize this is what's happening to us this is what has happened to us but to remember always that nothing is forever nothing is forever nothing is forever none of the things we think are great last forever and none of the things that make us sad last forever we look at money parents possessions jobs etc and if I don't appreciate these things I will have regrets so I need to learn how to interact through knowing who I am and what energy I have available with all of these areas in physical life so it's not that I get rid of everything and think oh gosh I'm going to practice being silent or still no there's a a way of doing all of this to reclaim myself means I have to start to have respect for everything around me but not be daunted and not think that that's my leader or my boss I'm learning to become my own but still I have to have appreciation of people in positions etc and so I hear about peace and love but I might think it's too hard to apply in the real world when I'm having situations and I might not understand it so much myself or I might but I know that people around me don't or choose not to but really if I want to know myself then there would be no choice I need to get to know myself and then I can lift my entire life into another level and help the people around me learning about myself teaches me to feel light-hearted a relief so if everything out there is limited then let me be aware of this and then super careful within my relationships give everyone my best and do my best to see the best in everyone and take time for ourselves and think about who am I and then you can practice seeing yourself as the energy in the center of the forehead the soul if we do this we begin to experience relationships with others in a different way I can begin to see them and appreciate their dignity and give respect it is a new way to see my role so familiarity will then not creep in so quickly I have to give people a bit more space not expect that they make me happy or that they won't hurt me I'll learn how to step back a little bit and allow a bit of space and then respect appreciation and satisfaction with the self life and others will be possible and I can feel full in the moment so if I can think like this teach myself to think like this then this is like a precious gift because slowly it might not happen quickly quickly but slowly a feeling inside begins to grow because more and more of myself becomes visible to myself I don't feel so needy because the feeling of fullness will only come from the things that are lasting and spiritual and I begin to understand that souls the soul I the soul I'm eternal and that I the self am forever this is a very deep truth so have to look and understand about my inner resources and for such a long time we've been having characteristics of expecting that everything will come to us from the outside and even when we practice being so conscious it won't happen instantly that we think that oh that's fine it's a journey we've been on a journey and we continue our journey we just go on to a different stage of our journey I'm going to teach myself to have happiness and to appreciate who I am and to teach myself not to be so dependent on others giving me that happiness and approval thereby having to do in my mind I'll only do that which I think they'll approve of so it curtails my freedom so we've become dependent on the outside and we've been dependent on how people respond to us and that motivates me into my script actually what I'm going to say is that I'm going to be dependent on others and I'm going to be dependent on how I'm going to act how I'm going to dress what I'm going to do Raja Yoga offers me the chance to know who I am it teaches me that this is a period of time when this is possible and that all the things I'm dependent on also have their own time period and that nothing lasts forever and to value whatever resources I have if I have money then wow that's good fortune if I have parents possessions and a job let me look at them and value them for the fact they're part of my journey let me treat them with that respect and dignity and I hear about peace and love but I might think it's too hard to apply in the real world but is it so hard when I see the benefits and the outcome and the fact that the people around me can benefit and my relationships can improve and my feeling of fullness inside can increase day by day so to think about this for ourselves who am I and then to see yourself and relationships with others in a new way so that I can give both myself and others more dignity and respect and I'll have appreciation and I'll feel satisfied with whatever it is that I'm involved with this will be possible and I can begin to see each day as a precious gift rather than oh gosh what am I going to do today and this feeling of fullness it will only come when I think of spiritual things because physical things we know don't make us feel full and they're not forever but the things that are lasting spiritual and eternal are the things of the soul you are forever you are forever.

Om Shanti.

I liked how you made it step by step that it would be a leap into that feeling of absolute satisfaction and I was thinking even just a little to stop complaining and start appreciating would you make a person quite different in today's world it's quite normal to just complain and moan all the time.

The topic of conversation is usually what's wrong not what's right.

Yeah yeah yeah people are your friends the more you complain they think oh here's just one of me it's just the same as me.

We've got the habit of telling people all the bad news Why?

Because we're attached to the physical and we we follow what we think is required of us we want to please if someone wants to talk negative we will talk negative too so as to make them feel okay they've got someone with an ear that's listening to them okay.

You spoke about things of the spirit being forever this word eternal it's quite mind-blowing it's almost as if my everyday way of thinking can't grasp what that means to be eternal so how do I start you know to make that explore that possibility that I am an eternal being Well again it's like it's an education first of all you have to look at where you're at and if where you're at has stress tension ill health problems with thinking etc and you practice a little bit even further even if you don't understand too much about the word peace but just what a relief because you know when I look back years ago even for the people around me to all go out and the room to become still was like oh for goodness sake what a relief and I was just so happy to be able to be here for goodness sake what a relief and that was physical that was a physical approach but I felt so much better by the time everyone charged back in again it was like oh I had a space so we're looking at it differently now that we're knowingly even in a crowded room even in a busy household going to find a way to find spaces for ourselves to stop interacting with others to look at the thoughts that are in my own head and start to listen to the fact that we might be energy and to think about it and even to that level to feel the benefit and if I feel a benefit I'll want to go back and try it again and it's like going to school the more that I do this the stronger it will become and the more and more I'll understand I am an eternal being of energy that's the only way you can know this really you can listen to words and the words can give you full of doubts and you have to practice it and see just from where you're at and the relief even not speaking for a short time and looking at how upset you are and calming yourself down tells you there's something useful here you also used the phrase if the prompts are absent it's as if we're searching around for the next prompt we don't know what to do when there's not masses of drama around and things that are making us think or say or do things and without prompts we can feel a bit lost and so do you think meditation helps you get that creativity back from the inside so that you're not so reliant on the prompts I can always only speak for myself I would say that's true just say for instance all your family moved to Australia and then the internet breaks down so you can't have any Skype calls or it's very difficult to communicate maybe they're travelers as well maybe they like to go here there and everywhere and so it's difficult to hear from them so that's that these prompts are away for temporarily and then say you lose your job but you had that every day to look forward to the people you knew the thing you were trained to do the typing typing or answering phones or running here or there or organizing organizing that's gone and so you find yourself with very few things around you to motivate you and you start to think now I'm lonely I'm sad I'm lonely nobody cares I haven't got anybody what am I going to do now this is how we could feel but this actually isn't really true and I found for myself the minute I started doing meditation and thinking thinking about the things I was hearing it triggered off a process in us and I think that process is in all of us it's a process of creativity it's not just a few people are artists and a few people can dance and one or two people can sing and people can do this and that we all have something in us that is our creative process and if you get engrossed in that before you know it you're not lonely and also if we start to apply some of these rules with people around us we won't feel that you know we're relying on the prompts but rather that I have something to share which might actually be useful to them so this I think is how it works so thank you and I think that we'll now have a minute or two of meditation so focusing on the center of the forehead and let me think I am energy point of light living thinking life energy and let me learn and teach myself to look inside whatever is affecting me I can't bypass that but what are the good qualities inside myself what do I have inside myself that make me feel light-hearted more light-hearted a feeling of relief peace calmness that I'd never looked at before and that can be quite astonishing why because we didn't have the time to look inside it's when I take the time to look within I can see myself and then I can decide what I'm going to do about myself to keep myself fresh and happy I am a soul I have the beautiful gift of understanding myself I am light a peaceful beautiful energy I am the eternal soul hello I love you.

I love you.
