Okay friends,
I have a challenge for you today.
I want to challenge you to get off of autopilot.
You know autopilot.
It's those times in our lives where we don't really have to think about anything.
Things just magically happen.
We don't have to think.
We mentally basically don't even have to be wherever we are,
But stuff still gets done.
Now an example of this is,
Let's say there's somewhere you've driven dozens of times before.
You're very familiar with that route.
You get in the car at point A and you drive to point B.
Now although you get in the car and you actually physically arrive at point B,
If it's pretty familiar with you that route,
I can guarantee you don't recall going from A to B.
Because somewhere in between here you probably weren't in the moment,
You weren't really paying attention because you were on autopilot.
Now here's how autopilot really can get in our way on a daily basis.
When we're on autopilot it's like all of our senses are basically shut off.
There are things that we're missing we are not observing at all.
Chances are we're getting stressed because if you get on the freeway and go the same route you've always gone,
You're just gonna see brake lights and the same things over and over and the same concrete.
It's not terribly aesthetically pleasing.
It's kind of boring.
It doesn't bring life to the situation.
Whereas if you picked up that GPS and clicked different route just once,
Even if it takes you a couple extra minutes to get to where you're going,
You've literally created an entire new adventure.
All of your senses are heightened because you're not familiar with it.
And what happens is all of a sudden you're observant.
You're seeing things,
You're smelling new things,
You're hearing new things.
You're on an adventure and your brain perks up.
It's something so simple and little it seems like.
But the more of these experiences that we can bring into our lives,
The more adventurous and fun things are and the better and more observant we become.
Not only do we get out of our little comfort zone where we're on autopilot,
Because by the way the cool stuff happens out here.
So get out of that comfort zone and do something new and different.
But challenge yourself to do that.
You will start to enjoy life and see opportunities and things that you never would have guessed that before were just coming by you.
Because you were here and your brain was somewhere else.
Get off of autopilot.
Pay attention to the day-to-day.
As you go through it,
Where are you just in a routine?
Where are you doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and you're not really thinking about it?
Make it a little more interesting.
Make it a little more fun.
Take a different route.
Pack something different for your lunch or go somewhere new for lunch.
Just try some different things.
My friend Angie Pullman always calls this concept a pattern interrupt.
We've got patterns as human beings.
We have routines.
We have habits.
We are creatures of habit.
Nothing happens differently or more fun or interesting or new when you're doing the same thing over and over and over again.
Pick a different pattern today.
Make a conscious effort to do something different.
Just one thing and see what happens.
You might be amazed what can happen when you don't do things the way you've always done them.
