Okay,

Begin by sitting in a comfortable,

Stable posture.

Sitting up straight with a nice long spine.

Let the body be relaxed.

And then we're going to start by focusing on the breath.

And do that by starting with a nice long sigh.

And then allow the breath to come in and fill as gently and as freshly as possible.

Just letting the lungs fill without any effort.

Simply because they're there.

Notice that the body has its own breath rhythm.

Nothing to control,

Nothing to do.

Just be with the breath.

Notice it coming in,

Going out.

And then a pause.

Coming in,

Going out.

And then a pause.

Try to really experience each breath.

Approach that breath with curiosity and awareness that you don't normally have during the day because we're just too busy.

Use this as an opportunity to mindfully be in the here and now with that breath.

Notice that as you do this,

Mind is lighter,

Clearer,

And more fluid.

There's a natural purity of the mind.

Just make a home of that.

Notice that this is actually kind of a home base.

From here we're going to further clear our minds with the habit patterns or the taints that are a magnet for stress and misperception.

It's like a veil interrupting our experience,

Our actual experience with life.

First we're going to let go of that seeking,

That hungering for happiness,

That part of us that desperately seeks happiness outside of ourselves.

It's an addictive clinging attachment that compulsively seeks.

And just remind yourself that that will never get you real happiness,

Which has to come from within.

And as you let go of that effort,

Experience a sense of relief,

Kind of like a moonlit sky,

Spacious moonlit clarity.

Next let go of the defensive,

Guarded,

Self-protective pattern,

Which filters all things as a threat and tries to hold on to whatever we have.

Realize that that's overkill,

Distracts from our ability to actually enjoy and engage in the world.

There's no need to be so guarded that the war is over,

You've arrived.

As you let that go,

Feel a kind of warming,

Like a radiant twilight sky,

Filling your mind with beautiful,

Amazing sunset,

The most amazing inner sunset that you can imagine,

Spacious openness of mind.

And then we're going to release the habit pattern of isolation,

That your fixed thing that's disconnected and everything in the world is against you or apart from you,

Which sets us up as separate from the world and makes us feel alienated and alone.

And recall that there's no part of you that's completely cut off,

That you're interconnected,

That we're all interconnected.

And as you do that,

As you let that go,

Experience that as a great deep expansion and stillness,

Like a dark night,

Like a midnight clarity,

Like an expansive midnight sky.

And gradually feel as you move through that dark night,

You get to a deeper,

More primal dawning clarity,

Like the light before dawn,

Not even a subtle residue of a compulsive pattern,

As clear as you can be,

As open as you can be.

It's like a luminous dawn of just the natural state of freedom,

Openness,

And brilliance.

And now put your attention back on the breath.

Count three more breaths.

And then open your eyes and bring your attention back into the room.

Okay.

I was able to be calmer with this than with meditations that focus more on the breath. This one was very relaxing and I found myself, this third time I have meditated with this, able to imagine the scenes with beautiful, soothing clearness. Many meditations just frustrate me. This one relaxes me. I appreciate that.
