When you feel dispersed, distracted, stretched too thin, take at least this 15 minutes. Retrieving scattered awareness from the horizontal of past and future, rooting deeply here and now. Breathing naturally, allowing the scattered flakes of your attention to land naturally, going beneath the surface aches and pains of mind and body to find rest and refreshment.

You may be starting with a sense of yourself as very scattered in all directions right now.

So as we begin to practice together,

Allowing yourself to deliberately plant that sense of self deeper into right now.

If it's helpful even imagining,

Sort of thinking vertically going down deeper,

Rooted where you are,

Through the bottoms of your feet,

The seat on the cushion or chair.

With each breath,

Sort of extracting the sense of yourself from past and future from that horizontal mode.

Sometimes in our thoughts,

This sense of self that thoughts create,

The scattering,

The sense of scattering is because we're sort of stretched out along this horizontal past,

Present,

Future.

So just allowing it to gather more clearly,

More fully into present moment experience.

Going down into this more deeply rooted experience of right now.

Perhaps,

Initially the right now that you run into.

At least at the surface of the present moment are the various aches and pains that you've been running from.

Emotional,

Mental,

Physical.

Realizing how chasing past or future has inflamed that process even further.

With each breath,

Just allowing yourself to become settled at a deeper and deeper level.

Not forcing anything,

Letting the various aches and pains settle.

Sometimes I like to say it's like the flakes of a snow globe.

You don't want to chase them around and try to force them to lie down.

That just keeps the water stirred up,

Just keeps them going.

Much more helpful to be,

Allow yourself to fall still,

To sink right where you are and allow things to get quiet or at least quieter.

That's the reality and one thing.
