Welcome.
This guided meditation and breathing practice was offered by Renée Seals for Somatic Space.
Somatic Space is a weekly embodied astrology class where we practice attuning through our bodies with current astrological influences.
For this meditation please find yourself in a comfortable position where you can breathe easily.
And then if it feels okay to close your eyes allow your eyes to close and start to sense into the space behind you.
Play with breathing into your back.
Play with allowing your breath to touch the back of your heart.
Play with inviting your breath to move into the space of your low back.
And as you breathe,
Play with the idea that your breath can be both a softness and a boundary,
A container.
And you can ask for one or the other if one or the other feels more supportive.
And in the space behind you,
Let's just populate that space.
Now call in to that space,
The many,
Many,
Many beings that have supported us in being here.
And so in the space behind each of us,
We might call in the presence of our loving ancestors.
The ones that have really made our lives possible.
And as we sense into their lives,
Their support,
Their energies,
We might breathe so far back that we breathe into unknown generations.
Some scientists say that humans have been evolving for about 200 million years.
And as you breathe,
Maybe you could imagine breathing into your 200 million year long lineage legacies.
But of course,
We're not only here because of human beings.
And so as you breathe,
Start to include the vastness that can never be named in its totality.
And so maybe it will come in as images or sensations or ideas or just a big mystery and quietness.
The many,
Many lives,
The many,
Many beings that gave life to all of our ancestors and to our bodies now.
Plant beings,
Animal beings,
Mineral beings,
Molecular beings.
And as you breathe into the space,
You might allow yourself to recall some of the traditions that you come from.
And these could include traditions of food,
Traditions of gathering,
Art,
Worship,
Fashion,
Music,
Prayer,
Intelligence.
There are so many things that make you unique.
And so many of them source,
Are sourced from what made your people and your ancestors unique.
Their experiences,
The ways that they survived,
The ways that they thrived.
And allow your mind to settle on one specific thing that feels really distinct.
The tradition that you come from,
That informs your being.
And then allow your mind to open up into what made that distinction possible.
And so if it's a particular spice that always gets included in a very special family recipe,
Then you might allow your mind to include the plants that only grow in a particular area or the way that spice is harvested through generational knowledge.
If what is distinct and unique is a way of gathering,
Then you might allow your mind to play with the ideas of how did this kind of gathering come into beingness because of circumstances and conditions that crafted it just this way.
And now it's become an anchor in a tradition.
And let's allow our breath to expand out again and again playing with the idea of softness in the back body,
Sending breath behind your heart and into your low back.
And let's call in the ancestors that are from beyond our bloodlines.
Although maybe at some point,
We all came from the same source.
But let's call in the teachers and the students and the teachers and the students,
The learners,
The explorers,
All the ones that might have been part of the reason that we're all here,
Gathering around embodiment practice,
Astrology practice,
The sky watchers and the earth tenders and the mystics,
The healers.
And then let's call in all of their friends,
All of the ways that they learned from their environments,
From their experiences.
And then if it feels all right,
Bring your hands to your low belly and allow your palms and fingers to spread,
Holding the part of your belly that is below your belly button.
Then play with the idea that softness can be here in your breath,
Inviting softness into your body.
Into your low belly.
Last week,
We ended our practice with a standing meditation,
Holding the space in front of our bellies with a practice called holding the original infant.
And so as you hold your belly now,
You might imagine that you can hold the space in your own body that remembers being an infant.
And as you hold this space in your own body,
Breathing in many contributors,
Contributions,
Gifts,
Generosities that have informed your being,
Your presence.
Could you breathe in a way that honors the fact that you are still arriving?
You are still becoming.
So who you are and who you're meant to be and all the ways that you'll also contribute to those and that which comes next.
All of that is still being formed,
It's still being shaped.
And now play with the idea of your belly starting to just grow with your breath.
And it might feel good to allow your hands now to start to float in front of your belly,
Almost like you're holding an energetic space.
And as you breathe,
You might envision the space that's inside your belly growing with light.
And this light is an expression,
It's an expression of your energy,
Of the ways that you contribute to creation.
And so you might fill this light with the qualities of your passions and commitments,
The colors and shapes of your deepest longings and your deepest devotions.
And then I'm just going to propose an idea and it might not be true for you.
So holding space for everybody to have their own experience here.
But the idea that I'm going to propose,
Feel it out how it feels for you.
Is that our longings in these lives have a lot to do with what is yet to come.
Our longings in these lives have a lot to do with what is yet to come.
So we create for the future,
We imagine what might be,
We anticipate evolution and continuities of some kinds.
So if that feels true for you,
If you feel that there's part of your beingness that expresses generosity and creativity for what is yet to come,
Then start to breathe towards that.
And as you breathe towards this idea of what is still forming,
Still arriving,
Imagine the space in front of you also getting filled with your breath.
And there might be particular offerings you already know you're making.
There might be particular ways you're already tending future generations or future Earth in your place now as a future ancestor.
And there's definitely a lot of mystery,
Ways that you can't yet know.
And as you breathe into the future,
As you soften and invite breath into your belly and front body,
Play with the idea that your front and your back can flow towards each other.
And that as you breathe,
The space behind your heart,
Space behind your back,
Your back can be breathed into supporting the space in front.
And as you breathe into the space in front,
That space can also flow into your back,
Supporting the space behind you.
And in these breaths,
Let's honor the continuity of the gifts and the opportunities and the supports that we've been given,
Remembering that the work of every generation doesn't complete but is inherited inherited,
That the great works of any lifetimes can never be completed in only one lifetime.
And one of the many gifts that the future gives us that the unknown gives us is change,
Opportunities for evolution,
Growth and new perspectives.
If your hands are floating,
Notice how big they've become or the space that they're holding.
And in these last few breaths,
Let's allow our hands to really take on a gesture or a shape of what we feel that we're holding or carrying or tending right now in our lives.
And inside your hands,
You might place all of your challenges and difficulties,
As well as your hopes and excitements,
Your longings,
Your lessons.
And then let's close our hands gently around whatever we're holding.
Whatever it is that we feel ourselves holding,
You might bring your hands together to touch or there might still be space between them.
And then let's just offer a bow and a prayer and send blessings into your own life,
Blessing your own intentions,
Your own efforts.
And you might breathe into your back and ask for the blessings and supports of all the ones that have come before.
You might breathe into your belly and ask for the blessings and supports of what is still arriving.
And then as if we're holding water,
Let's let the hands come together and then we'll wash our hands with this energy.
Rubbing your hands together.
And then let's wash our heads and faces with these prayers.
And so you can caress your own face,
Or you can just allow your hands to hover over the front of your face or the front of your head.
And imagine that you're washing your face,
Washing your head with the energy of your own prayer.
And then we'll bring our hands to our hearts,
Letting our prayers settle right in the centers of our beings.
