We can resist to change - even when we know it's good for us. This contemplative talk explores the delicate balance between inner tension and freedom. Acknowledging the feeling that holds us back, that lives in the depth of our body and unconscious mind. So we can create more space within and find the freedom to transform into new ways of being.

What stops you from believing in you?

There are goals or wishes or drives within you,

And there may also be something working against you.

I say this because I am aware of what is working inside of me.

As I move forward on my path,

On my path of creating a life that I love,

There is resistance.

There are emotional patterns that seem to surface from time to time and hold me back.

Maybe they surface because they are always there,

Deep,

Deep inside of the unconscious mind.

These patterns I've felt for a while.

I don't normally think about them until they grab hold of my body.

Sometimes you may know what's holding you back,

And sometimes you don't.

When we try to figure out what holds us back,

We're in the mind,

And we may overanalyze or overthink.

It's important to use the mind,

Of course,

Because answers that can illuminate the situation is always helpful.

Answers that provide a greater level of awareness is always helpful.

But some patterns are so deep that they may or may not lead to an answer.

And those patterns are the ones that are felt,

Felt very deeply inside the body.

Those are the patterns that I'm actually talking about.

How do we reach those places when we may not have words for it?

We can acknowledge the sensations in our body because those patterns are calling us for a reason.

They call us to be more aware of what is working inside of us and what is not working inside of us.

And those patterns call us so that we could create space where those patterns seem to be.

They are reminders that we are working with a tension in life,

A tension and a freedom that may be fundamental to the process of learning and growing and evolving,

That freedom that comes from tension.

And when we're aware that we're inside of this process,

It's a felt sense and we can use our creative mind as an ally.

When we scan the body and we look for places of tension,

Look for places of holding,

Feelings that feel restricting inside,

A sense of gravity weighing you down or holding you back.

Lean into those sensations,

Bring your awareness to those sensations and your awareness can become a flashlight and possibly beacon of light to feel your way out of that into something that feels more spacious.

It's this deeper listening,

This subtle process of working with what's inside,

Acknowledging the truth of the fear,

The resistance,

The gravity within you,

That you have something to work with using the creative mind to move you into places that are not that,

Meaning where you know there is tension.

You may also know where there is freedom inside because there are many feelings that we have within us and sometimes it's a matter of awareness to notice what we're noticing and to also be aware of how we would rather feel and where we feel that as well.

The body doesn't lie and it's so important to work with the body to acknowledge what is so inside,

To ask ourselves how are we feeling and to use deeper listening to go to those subtle sensations because when we do and we bring our awareness and our breath to those places that hold us back we may notice a subtle shift,

An opening or release inside.

We notice that subtle shift and we create a greater opening with our creative mind.

When we ask our body how would we rather feel and listen for that response and lean into that opening,

Move into more of how you would rather feel knowing where that lives inside your body.

As well bringing your breath and awareness there and your curiosity to notice what is changing now as you continue to breathe and listen creating more space,

More possibility and more growth within you with each inhale and each exhale.
