This guided meditation is designed to help you shift out of a stressed state by redirecting your attention to the image of a beautiful sunset. We will use the tool, "This is also true," to remind your mind that the daily stressors are not all that is true, and therefore not all that's needed in every moment. In following this meditation, the mind will reset the stress response to be able to return to being at peace in the midst of the world.

Hi,

I'm Alice Langholt.

Welcome to this guided meditation for Nervous System Reset.

The world can feel pretty chaotic right now,

And that feeling can become a constant state of stress underneath everything in our day.

We may stop feeling safe to feel safe,

Because our minds remind us that all of these horrifying things are happening out there.

So,

Our minds say,

It's not practical,

It's not right to feel safe and okay in any moment.

That's not true.

Last night,

I was distracted from my own worries by seeing a glorious sunset,

Right in my neighborhood.

I mean,

The colors were vivid,

Orange,

Red,

Purple,

And shades of pink,

Just as if someone had thrown paint across the sky and put it there for me.

I left my house and I looked up in amazement and snapped some pictures.

All of my self-talk couldn't compare to the experience of seeing that sky.

And in that moment,

Everything was truly fine and beautiful.

Seeing last night's sunset inspired me to create this guided meditation for you.

To help us all come back to the reality that even when the media may tell us that we are not okay,

That's not the full truth.

Let's take these next few minutes together to take our minds to the other truth.

The truth that is always there if we just shift our attention to it.

The truth that the world is beautiful and supportive and we are safe.

Let's get our autonomic nervous systems out of the constant fight,

Flee,

Or freeze state and back into the state of rest and digest.

Because when we're not in the state of stress,

We can actually think and function from a place of wellness and mental clarity.

We will be using our imaginations to direct our minds and emotions to that feeling of security.

So please join me now.

Begin by getting comfortable where you are seated or resting.

Relax your body.

And I recommend that you close your eyes during this exercise also to minimize distractions.

Let's take a few slow,

Deep breaths together.

Inhale slowly.

And exhale,

Releasing tension as you do.

Another.

Breathe in.

And release.

Inhale.

And let the breath go.

Very good.

Now just allow your breathing to continue on its own.

Beautiful visions of nature create a sense of relaxation.

So we will use my experience of the sunset last night for our meditation today.

As we proceed through this meditation,

I invite you to also reconnect with the feelings of wonder,

Gratitude,

And safety as they arise.

These feelings naturally reset our nervous systems.

Allow yourself to imagine that you are in your home.

Everything is in its usual place.

Now,

You notice a small bag of trash that's ready to be emptied.

Before you go,

Please imagine picking up a few things that represent your stressors and add them to the bag.

I'll give you a few moments to do this.

Now,

Close the bag and take it with you as you open the door and walk outside.

Imagine walking to your trash can and put the bag in it and close the lid.

Good job.

Now,

I'd like you to turn your attention to the sky.

Notice the sky is wondrous as the sun is beginning to descend for the evening.

The air feels pleasantly cool as it gently sweeps across your face.

The sky is vividly bursting with glorious color,

Pink and purple washing as far as you can see,

And orange blending in and painting the few clouds everywhere.

The trees and landscape look to be washed in the colors emanating from the sky.

Take a moment to allow yourself to appreciate this breathtaking beauty,

Something that is present every day but now is calling for your attention.

This sky is here for you to admire.

This painting is fleeting and every evening it is a new variety just for you.

Breathe in and exhale,

Wow,

As you connect with your sense of wonder.

Even as you pause and admire the sky,

Notice it is changing.

The colors deepen and darken with each passing minute as night emerges.

The breeze makes the leaves dance,

A dance that calls you to remember to celebrate that you are alive and able to appreciate this moment.

This moment is here to call you to reset,

To sink into wonder and gratitude,

And to remember that this is always part of the truth of your life.

The Earth's beauty is always arising anew.

Every morning,

Every growing shoot emerging from the soil,

Every soothing breeze,

And every warming sunbeam.

Breathe in fully and let your concerns retreat to the background.

You are here,

Part of nature observing itself and loving it.

As you love the beauty around you,

Allow yourself to reconnect with it as part of you.

And in the act of loving nature,

You are loving yourself too.

Receive that love as you share it so easily with the planet.

For the next two minutes,

I invite you to stay with this image.

Breathe in the love that nature is giving you,

And breathe out gratitude in return.

And now,

I invite you to take this feeling with you as you go on to the next part of your day.

As you open your eyes and come back to this moment where you are,

I'd like you to remember it is okay and it is safe to be at peace in the midst of the world.

It is okay and it is safe to be at peace in the midst of the world.

Thank you for listening,

And please come back anytime to repeat this experience.

Each time you are able to reset your nervous system,

You will derive benefits to your health on every level.

Thank you.
