I recently came across this beautiful story and would like to share it with you.
Burmese army planned an invasion of Thailand.
Monks who were in possession of an enormous treasure,
A solid gold Buddha,
That today would be valued at around 300 million dollars,
Made a decision.
To protect the Buddha from being plundered,
They covered it in 12 inches of clay.
The Burmese attackers,
Thinking it worthless,
Ignored it.
But sadly,
They didn't spare the monks,
And so the hidden secret of the statue was lost.
For over 250 years,
Until the mid-1950s,
This Buddha existed only as a clay Buddha.
Then,
When the 5-ton statue was being moved to a new location by a crane,
It began to crack.
They didn't expect it to be so heavy.
The monks set it down,
Waiting for a bigger crane the next day,
And covered it with a tarp to protect it from the rains.
In the middle of the night,
One monk was checking on the tarps when he saw a reflection,
A glimmer through the crack.
He carefully began to chisel away around the crack as the glimmer grew.
And then,
As the clay fell away,
A solid gold Buddha shone once again for the world to marvel at.
This story is a powerful metaphor for the potential that lies within each one of us.
It explains beautifully that inside each of us,
There lives a golden Buddha of light.
We all have sacred gifts that are hidden under the layers of limiting beliefs imposed by the society and sometimes ourselves.
We cover over the gold as we seek the approval of others to determine whether we are good enough and successful enough.
If we can find that crack and that glimmer inside and connect to that part of us that knows our true nature,
Then the rest of the old junk can fall away easily so that we can shine at our brightest.
Love,
Light,
Peace and Power to you!
