In a world that thrives on being on the go and staying busy, we find that we are constantly being distracted by something. Mindfulness is a practice that brings us back to the present moment. We can use mindfulness techniques in every aspect of our life. This is a very basic meditation that will teach you the definition of mindfulness and will lead you through a very quick practice of centering and being in the "now".

Hello,

Welcome.

Today we're going to talk about mindfulness.

Mindfulness is a practice that comes from Buddhist psychology.

It is a way of thinking about not only what we're doing,

But the experience of it.

It's about being present in every aspect of our life,

From who we speak to,

To our surroundings,

To what we're doing,

To even eating.

It's about stopping and smelling the roses.

There is beauty,

Peace and tranquility everywhere and we can find it if we slow down.

So find a comfortable position and when you're ready,

Close your eyes.

Let's take a few deeper than normal breaths.

Exhaling deeply through the nose and exhaling slowly.

Today,

I want you to be present with your surroundings.

Scan your body.

Starting at the tip of your head,

Moving down through your forehead and your eyes and your cheeks and nose,

Through your chin and your neck.

What are the sensations that you feel?

Are you relaxed?

Getting down to your torso,

Your shoulders,

Your arms,

Your hands and your fingers.

Just acknowledging anything that you may feel.

Just acknowledge it and let it go.

Acknowledging anything that you may feel and letting it go.

Exhaling your body to the best of your ability,

Focusing on your breath.

Acknowledging any thoughts that you may have and just letting them go.

Exhaling deeply through the nose and your forehead.

Try not to judge any thoughts that come to your mind.

Just accept the thoughts and let them go on.

An easy practice of acknowledgement is that any time a thought comes,

Just say,

Thinking.

And then come back to the moment.

Always come back to the breath.

Focus on each inhale and exhale.

This is your sacred time.

This is your time to just be.

Be in the moment.

Be in the moment.

Soft,

Natural breath.

Where do you feel the breath entering your body?

Where do you feel it the most?

Is it in your nose?

Or is it on the exhale?

This time is yours.

You deserve this time.

Your sacred time.

Be mindful of your sacred time.

While you're out and about today,

Try to see the beauty that is around you.

Try to find the good in everything.

As our practice is starting to come to a close,

Come back to the present moment.

Wiggle your fingers,

Wiggle your toes.

And when you're ready,

Open your eyes.

Hope you've enjoyed this time together.

Have a wonderful day.

I like the idea of mindfulness as sacred time.
