Hello and welcome to today's meditation.

My name is Nikki and I'm the founder of Slow Coaching Co and it's an honor to guide you through today's practice which is one where we aim to shed some of the shoulds that we collect along the way due to our constant comparison with others.

So I invite you to take a seat and let's begin today's practice.

As you find yourself in a seat that is comfortable and that you can sustain for the next couple of minutes,

Really ground down through your sit bones and let your spine grow tall.

Relax your shoulders away from your ears.

Take a deep inhale.

Hold it for just a second at the top and then empty it out through your mouth.

Take one more of those in your own time just to fully arrive into this space.

And now let go of any expectations that you have of how this practice should play out today.

There's no right or wrong,

There's no rules.

What will be will be and whatever is is meant to be and is just perfect for this practice that you've settled into today.

Know that you don't need to hold your hands in a certain position,

You don't need to look like a guru or somebody that you know who meditates or that you've seen meditate.

Carving out this time for yourself in itself is exactly what you need.

So come back to that breath just noticing how it ebbs and flows and as you let go of this expectation,

Know that thoughts most definitely will enter your mind in an attempt to pull you away from the practice,

To distract you,

To let you go back to that place of I should be doing this,

I should be doing that,

I can't do it,

I'm no good at this.

And with each thought that attempts to pull you away,

Simply observe that thought without any judgment knowing that even the most experienced of meditators,

Monks,

Gurus,

Yogis,

They all have thoughts enter their minds as they meditate.

How's that breath?

Come back to it now.

Notice the inhale and notice your exhale.

Keep focusing your attention to your breath.

With each inhale and exhale do your best to lengthen and smooth it out,

Becoming calmer,

More relaxed and more in tune with yourself as you sit here.

We spend so much of our lives in a space where we're hyper-connected,

We're always on,

We're scrolling,

Constantly scrolling,

We're watching and seeing the highlight reel that everybody posts onto very social media platforms.

And it's easy to get caught up,

To think to yourself that you're not enough,

To compare yourself to people's highlight reel and think that you're alone in whatever it is that you might be going through.

It's a dangerous place to live in,

In this world where comparisonitis is rife.

Our sense of self-worth,

Our sense of individuality is constantly being challenged.

We constantly think that we should be doing better,

We should have achieved X by this time,

We should look a certain way,

We should be doing certain things because of what we see and how we instinctively compare ourselves.

Imagine just for a moment now as you sit here,

A world where you don't should all over yourself.

Imagine an existence where you're proud and you own being uniquely you.

Where you celebrate the fact that you're one in seven billion and there is nobody in this world that is quite like you.

You don't need to imagine this,

You can step into that power,

You can connect back to yourself whenever you choose.

Come back to your breath,

Feel the breath going in,

Let it transport you to a place where you shed the shoulds,

You let go of the comparison and you celebrate and tap into the power that lies within.

Being your true self,

The unique being that you are in this world.

Let each breath long and smooth be a reminder and have the ability to transport you back to this place when you need it.

Continue now to focusing on your breath for as long as you need to,

To think about all the things that you can celebrate that belong uniquely to you.

On completion you can bring your hands to heart center and take a moment to show yourself some acknowledgement and some gratitude for taking time to practice today.

Namaste beautiful humans,

My unique,

Quirky,

Eccentric,

Individual self recognizes,

Acknowledges and sees the same unique,

Amazing,

Quirky,

Eccentric,

Crazy,

Beautiful self in you.

Namaste and go lightly into the rest of your day.
