This is short mindfulness practice, with gentle and relaxing music in the background. We have a tendency to be very judgmental about ourselves, in many aspects of our lives. Even when we are doing great things, we hold onto negative Self judgements about the way we look, think, feel or behave. It's a curious reality that it can be much easier for us to forgive others, than ourselves for any mistakes we may have made. When you practice Self-kindness and become more peaceful within yourself, you are able to change patterns of thought, which may not be serving you any beneficial purpose. This practice will also allow you to be more at peace with those around you and, as everything is connected, will bring a sense of overarching calmness and happiness into your life. Note: Part of this meditation was inspired by a practice from the book "A Fearless Heart" by Thupten Jinpa.

Try to find a comfortable position sitting or lying down.

It's up to you.

Just feel comfortable,

Even little bit more comfortable.

Close your eyes if possible.

Now bring your awareness to the physical sensations of your body.

If you feel any tension,

Try to relax your muscles.

Take a deep breath in and exhale slowly.

In and out slowly.

In and out.

Exhale few more times at your own pace.

In and out slowly.

Imagine yourself as a small child who is running around the room and knocking things over along the way.

Or,

If it is more helpful,

Imagine an age that you can remember when you are a child.

Wouldn't you feel instinctively protective towards this child?

Instead of negative judgement and criticism,

Wouldn't you feel compassionate and caring?

Without this feeling of caring towards your child self,

Feel your heart.

Now repeat in your mind.

May you be free from pain and suffering.

May you be free from stress and anxiety.

May you experience peace,

Balance and joy.

May you be free from pain and suffering.

May you be free from stress and anxiety.

May you experience peace,

Balance and joy.

May you be well and happy.

Before opening your eyes,

Think about one thing that you can do today to feel happier.

I invite you to do this thing today.

Now slowly open your eyes.
