The Eastern religions talk a lot about attachment as a cause of sorrow for human beings.
But you know,
Love between human beings is a good thing.
So what is it about attachment that turns it negative?
Attachment is where we leave our own self and lodge in somebody else.
So it's as if,
You know,
If you think of a tree,
If the tree was not digging its roots down into the ground and putting its roots so that it could stand in a sturdy,
Healthy way,
Instead it would be as if the tree was not doing that and was putting its roots horizontally into other trees.
So that would leave the tree itself very unstable without a center of gravity.
That's what the problem is.
And the Hawaiian Kahuna with whom I studied used to talk about in the West how we were taught to use other people rather than ourselves and that we actually didn't know how to use ourselves.
So what I found on my journey is that,
You know,
We really are infinite beings in human form.
So we have our human frailties and our blind spots,
But within us is a source of invincible intelligence and invincible power.
And the more you put your roots in that,
The more you put your identity in that,
The more you consciously think about that and think about what life would be like if you were more lodged in that,
The more you will.
And the more your difficulties will get solved by perceptions bubbling up within you and your intuition showing you,
You know,
How to navigate.
And it leaves you very protected in the sense of,
You know,
If you're not putting roots down into your own being and you're putting roots into other people to try to get nourishment from them,
It leaves you very unstable.
And if they don't want to play anymore,
You really are lost,
Especially if you don't know how to access your own being.
So you know,
My hope is that with all this turmoil around us,
That maybe more of us will get interested in truly accessing our own strength,
Our own intelligence inside us.
And actually,
As you do that,
You will feel closer and more compassionate to others and you will understand them and you will become more at peace.
I mean,
What's not to like,
Eh?
Thanks for listening.
