What does it really mean to purify your desires? It’s not about becoming “more holy” or living by someone else’s moral code. It’s about peeling back the layers of ego, fear, and shadow so you can touch the pure essence of what your soul truly wants. In this talk, I share the three biggest distortions that cloud our true desires: 1. Belief in lack – chasing something to fill a hole inside. 2. Unintegrated shadow – letting greed, lust, or laziness take over your pure impulses. 3. Fear – allowing the fear of failure, judgment, or the unknown to hold you back. You’ll learn how to spot these distortions, integrate your shadows, and walk your true path with courage, love, and alignment — so your desires naturally serve both you and the world.

What I want to talk about today is how to purify our desires.

Now when I say purify,

I don't mean in a holy sense that how to make them more moral or holy.

What I mean by purifying is to get to the root of it,

Get to the essence of it.

As the creator in you has the desire rather than distorting it with the layers of egoic identity.

And ultimately that's what will give us fulfillment,

That's our true path.

And so that's why we purify,

Not because of some kind of judgment from the outside world or from ourselves,

But from the innate desire to walk our path,

Our true path.

That's what I mean by purifying our desires to get to the essence of them.

And so what comes in the way,

That's what we need to ask because the desire is already innate within us.

We all have desires from the moment we are born,

We have desires.

Desire for food,

Comfort to begin with,

Safety,

Security and then starts to grow.

As we grow older,

More desires come up,

We navigate the world and desires show up in different ways.

So then the question is,

How do we purify?

How do we get to the essence of our true desires?

How do we find out for ourselves,

Not from some bible or scripture,

What you should desire or what you should want,

But you knowing what you truly want.

And then it's a different game because when you want truly what you want,

Then there's no outside authority,

There's no motivation needed from outside.

So let's get to the root of it.

The desires are distorted by three main things.

The first is belief in lack.

Whenever we are assuming that we are lacking something,

Then we are essentially filling that hole,

That emptiness within us.

It's not completely pure desire,

It's just kind of like putting up a band-aid on ourselves.

If we feel lonely,

We want connection.

If we feel hunger,

We want food.

Which is fine,

But you notice that it's just a cycle,

It's just a repetitive loop,

It's not getting to the root of what you truly want.

You understand?

Like whenever you have a feeling of lack,

It's just surface level desire to fill a hole within you.

So that is the first,

You can say,

Thing that distorts our true desires,

Just that there's something lacking right now.

Lack of money,

Lack of food,

Lack of connection,

Lack of whatever.

And it's okay to eat food,

I'm not saying that you shouldn't eat food,

But I'm just saying,

Know that it's just a distortion,

It's just a short-term thing,

And you don't have to get attached to it or make it so significant.

You can just be like,

Okay fine,

Whatever,

I'll eat some food.

Or if I'm feeling lonely,

I don't have to then fill that with some connections that are not aligned.

I can just find connections that are more aligned.

Or I'll wait patiently until I find those connections,

Instead of filling that gap of loneliness with people who are not aligned.

Just giving examples right now,

How belief in lack distorts our desires.

Because then we are not finding the aligned connections or aligned way of living,

Because we are just focused on filling that lack.

Oh I'm lacking money right now,

So I'm just going to find a way to make money,

Not really focusing on my true desire,

My true purpose,

My true mission here.

But I'm just going to focus on the lack of money,

And I'm just going to fill that hole.

Again,

Nothing wrong with making money for the sake of it,

But all I'm saying is,

This is not ultimately the purified true desire.

So you can do your part-time job just to make money,

But know that it's just for that.

It's really not your true desire.

It's not your purified true desire.

As you become aware of that,

Let's move to the second distortion that clouds our pure desires,

And that is the distortion of shadow.

Our shadows take over,

Like greed,

Like lust,

Like sloth,

Or you can say laziness,

Or whatever.

These shadows within us get activated,

And they take over the pure desires of love and passion and creativity or connection.

These are our pure desires,

But the other added onto it is the addition of the shadows.

So the real work here is just to become aware of them.

Integrate our shadows,

But embody the light.

So not to say that greed is bad,

For example,

Because many times it can kind of like make you more ambitious,

Which is okay,

Which if it's aligned,

It can be great.

So that's how you integrate the shadow,

But if you just get lost in your greed,

Then you're letting your shadow distort your pure desire rather than using your shadows to move in the direction without getting distorted by them.

So that's how you integrate the shadow,

But keep embodying the light.

If I'm feeling greedy,

I'm going to use it as a fuel,

But I'm not going to let it take over me.

I'm going to stay pure.

I'm going to stay in integrity.

And that's how you fool your shadows.

Not really fool,

But you don't let it take over.

And you integrate it in a positive way,

In the purest way,

So that your desires are pure in that moment.

And then the last third way that we distort our desires is fear.

And this fear could be the fear of failure,

Fear of judgment,

Of what may happen,

What others may say.

And this can stop us from following our true path,

Which could require courage,

It could require some overcoming of the fear or facing the fear or just simply not giving in to the fear.

The fear can be there.

You don't have to get rid of it in order for you to move.

You simply either get over it or you let go of it or you say,

Okay,

Fine,

Be there,

But I'm not going to stop.

In this way,

You essentially surrender to the fear and yet you don't lose the battle because fear is an illusion.

It can only be effective if it stops you from doing something that you truly want to do.

Otherwise,

It's just an illusion.

It's just a signal that pretends that it's trying to protect you,

But it doesn't protect you when it comes in the way of your true path.

And it's a really game of discernment.

So it's not about them being reckless,

But more about seeing that I would not let fear stop me on my path.

If I really,

Really have a passion,

Desire for something,

I am going to go for it regardless of the fear.

So if you can see through all these distortions and then tap into your excitement,

Tap into your passion,

Into your love,

Into your desire,

Then you're living the life of the creator,

How the creator wants to live through you in service to others,

In expansion,

In growth,

In experiencing a beautiful life.

And then,

As I said,

Sharing that with others,

It will be automatic.

Like this will be part of your desire because you have purified it to the essence of it by doing all these three things.

Undoing your distortions of fear,

Of shadow and lack.

So my friends,

This is how you do it.

And it's a process of reflection.

A process of integration.

So yeah,

It may take time,

But hope this gives you that opening,

That inspiration to continue to reflect upon this and continue to purify your desires so that you not only are serving yourself,

But serving the world with your own unique way of being.

And then service becomes your nature.

It's not something that you always have to do.

Sometimes it is like this,

But then it just becomes part of you because your beingness radiates that purity.

And then next,

Maybe something distortion comes up,

Maybe a feeling of lack,

Maybe a feeling of fear,

Or maybe some shadow coming up.

You simply become aware of it,

Integrate it,

Use it to embody the light,

To embody the purity,

To find out the essence of your desire.

And just move in that direction with excitement,

With passion,

With love,

With your open heart,

Where there's no fear,

There's no lack,

And the shadows are integrated in the light.

So much wisdom in your teaching. What struke me is how I can integrate my shadow by finding out what is my true desire. The shadow is simply a cloud hiding the sun. Being grateful for the cloud as this is what I think I desire. But by identifying that it is a cloud, I can get curious as to identifying the sun, discovering my true nature, what I really desire. I.e. Lust leading to true connection. Thank you, it is very helpful.
