Welcome to meditation on becoming aware of awareness.
Or aware of chit in Sanskrit.
Come to a comfortable seat,
However that may be,
Whether it be in a chair,
On the ground,
If laying down is more accessible that also works.
Just have the central channel of the body long,
If possible,
And relaxed.
Close the eyes if comfortable.
Spend a moment taking in the sounds.
Sounds outside of my voice.
In your environment.
Maybe the sound of your own breath.
Taking the sound of the breath as a starting off point to move to the body.
Start to notice sensations.
Either pulsing anywhere.
Restriction.
There sensations of heat or cold.
There is the sensation of support from your seat or the ground supporting you.
What does the air feel like on the surface of the skin?
Spaciousness.
Maybe move farther in can feel sensations in the belly.
Fluttering.
Maybe there's a sense of feeling settled.
Maybe you can notice relaxation or contraction in the muscles and the organs.
And likely this whole time,
You've also been aware of the breath as it informs all these sensations of the body.
Move the awareness to the quality of mind.
Observe thoughts.
Symbols,
Memories,
Images.
Flavor.
There's a quality or an energy to the mind.
And move awareness just beneath that.
Feelings.
The themes or feelings kind of woven beneath the fabric of your mind.
Stay with this for a few moments.
There may or may not be words that come up,
But you can feel.
You can become aware of this emotional landscape.
And now like a mirror reflecting back on itself.
Become aware of awareness itself.
What is it that is aware of the body?
That is aware of sensation.
That is aware of mind.
That is aware of thought and feeling.
Awareness itself.
Pay attention to attention itself.
If a thought arises.
Or you feel something is distracting or pulls you away.
Remember that it's awareness.
Feeling aware of itself through that distraction.
In essence,
Awareness itself can't be distracted.
In the tantric tradition,
The koshas,
The innermost kosha,
The layers of self are the koshas.
The innermost kosha is awareness is chit.
But it's not really a layer of the self because it is the core.
Our true essence is awareness.
We'll take a few more moments together before we close with the bell.
May our practice together be of benefit to all beings.
May our practice be of benefit to all beings.
