Become the observer of your thoughts, emotions, discomforts, and physical body. Sometimes we get caught up in doing and instead need reminding to just be. This meditation is suitable for any time of the day morning, noon, or night. Music by Christopher Lloyd Clarke

The Observer,

Written and guided meditation by Laura Gallagher,

Please in the middle.

Make yourself comfortable and close your eyes.

Tune into the rhythm of your breath and allow yourself to go inward.

What does that mean to you,

To go inward?

Follow the flow of your breath.

Imagine your breath as a river ebbing and flowing,

Trickling through the sand,

Rocks and wet grasses,

Natural and not forced.

There is no right way of it flowing.

There is no wrong way.

It just is.

Observing your breath in the depths of your own river,

Your body,

Noticing where it flows and where it gets stuck,

Where it feels natural and easy and where it feels forced and unturned.

Let your breath ebb and flow with the river you're observing.

As the water rises and falls,

So does your breath,

Rising and falling,

Ebbing and flowing.

Listen and observe what comes up for you now.

As you observe the river of your breath,

You start to notice the bigger boulders in the water,

Blocking some of that natural movement and flow of the water,

Restricting and redirecting.

Your boulders are your thoughts.

Naturally they start to show up and redirect your attention.

But just as the river moves around and redirects the water flow,

So does your breath.

Let your breath lead you back by naturally flowing with the rhythm of your breath.

Observe yourself in this space.

The water's edges in the river are getting sharper and rockier.

Accepting the discomfort as you place your feet over the edges.

The physical discomfort and unease of the river is just like your body.

As you become uncomfortable,

Your thoughts and physical body do too.

Observe your discomfort.

Sit with your discomfort.

Be in your discomfort.

As we observe the river,

Ebbing and flowing,

The discomfort and ease.

Let go of any attachments now.

Imagine them all pulling loose,

Separating the sands and untying the boulders and releasing the discomfort.

You are the observer,

The observer of your thoughts,

The observer of your pains and discomforts,

The observer of anything else.

You are not these things,

But simply the observer of these things.

Be in the silence now.

Be the silent watcher of your thoughts and behavior.

You are beneath the thinker.

You are the stillness beneath the mental noise.

You are the love and joy beneath the pain.

Eckhart Tolle.

Namaste.

Great reminder and powerful meditation. The metaphor helped me be there and see the river, to follow the river and gave the ability to flow past my thoughts without getting stuck on them.
