Earth Rebels Session 9 - Dreaming Our Future
Now, we will dream deeply. Dream of a different Earth. The dreams of our soul. Dreams to find a new kind of life, hope, and visions for our grandchildren and the coming generations. And remind ourselves that it is never hopeless, even if we are a single hummingbird trying to extinguish a burning forest.

We have airplanes,
Dishwashers,
Smartphones,
Cars,
Electrical lights and computers.
But somewhere during the materialistic development we forgot the magic.
We also began to forget our dreams.
So many of us fall asleep and wake up the next morning without remembering anything from the night.
What are you doing every night when you are sleeping?
When you are dreaming?
Some people say they don't have any dreams.
But is that really true?
Or is it only so that they just don't remember their dreams?
And are these dreams just random events that you are going through?
Some subconscious processing or what are they?
The ancient societies held dreams in great esteem.
Through our dreams we can connect with deep wisdom,
With our ancestors and guides.
Through your dreams you can heal,
Get insights and ideas as well as warnings and omens.
And we haven't just forgotten our nightly dreams but also the dreams of our soul,
The longing,
The aching longing in our hearts for a world in peace,
In true peace and harmony.
Luckily all we have to do is remember.
Remember the original instructions.
How to live together,
To share,
To laugh,
To play,
To love and to create wonders.
You might have glimpsed this on your journey already.
Awake into this potential.
What Earth could be.
The paradise Earth.
I remember from a time when I was a child.
I remember being a young child and how strange it felt when I saw the news about the wars.
When I began school and people were teasing and bullying each other I remember thinking why are people so mean?
And why are they making all these wars?
We can just be nice.
We can just be kind to each other.
And then I forgot all of that.
I went into the system.
I started teasing people.
I started being mean.
It was only when I was about 20 I found this book where someone was talking about something called altruism.
That someone was Dalai Lama.
It was a conversation between him and a psychologist.
And this word altruism it stirred something deep in me.
It was like ahh that's exactly what I was feeling when I was young.
Why can't we just be kind to each other?
And now I think I begin to understand why.
Because we have been taught to be mean.
We have been trained for war.
Trained for oppression.
Through all these traumas that we have gone through.
There is a different school though.
A school where the ancient ones are the teachers.
The trees.
The trees.
Lakes.
Mountains.
The birds and the flowers and the mushrooms and the songs of the wind.
One of the first lessons is to remember magic again.
In our modern culture we are taught only to see the materialistic cause and effect.
If I raise an object and drop it,
It will fall down because of gravity.
We are not taught about the mental cause and effect.
If I think of something.
If I really pray for something.
It can manifest.
Just look at the many synchronicities in your life.
You can think of someone.
Dream of someone or something.
And it might end up happening.
Sure.
We like to shrug our shoulders and look past it.
It was just mere coincidence.
Magic is a real bummer.
There are no coincidences.
Zero.
None.
Everything happens because of certain causes.
Both in the material realm and the mental and even spiritual invisible realm.
Since we only look at the material,
The physiological part,
We don't see the full picture and like to blame coincidence when bad things happen to us.
I don't know how many dreams and weird phenomena I experienced until my rational skeptical mind finally gave up.
It was a battle between the doubter and the believer in me.
One side really wanting to believe what I always felt when I was young.
That this life is magical.
And the other side.
The side I had been trained to listen to during my studies in physics.
Telling me to stop believing in such ridiculous things as magic,
Superstition.
And guess what?
This is exactly what the empire used as arguments when it dominated indigenous tribes all around the globe.
It called their beliefs superstition.
Beliefs in ancestral spirits,
In nature spirits.
Believing in divination.
All of it.
Children's tales.
Their patriarchal sky father,
God however.
That was the real magic for them.
Today you can choose you know.
If you want to keep living in the dead,
Materialistic,
Mechanical universe.
Or if you want to take the leap of faith into the magical,
Beautiful beyond words,
Living,
Beating,
Breathing planet earth.
So let us dream of the other world now.
Let us dream of the most beautiful earth.
Let go of your body for a while and soar with your soul.
Fly with eagles and condors high on top of the mountains.
Fly with your ancestors,
Their spirits and let them show you what awaits us if we pray and work for it.
There is no limit to what we can do as humanity.
We can make renewable cell phones,
Computers and even airplanes from 100% biodegradable,
Conflict free and reusable materials.
We can actually make transistors from fatty acids.
It's already been done.
We don't have to live in this cold iron steel plastic world.
Vehicles,
Clothes,
Digital instruments.
Everything can be made from living materials and returned again to the living world without polluting.
If we want to.
This is not just an idea,
It's a real possibility.
As for food,
We can get it from,
We can of course get it sustainable from ecosystems where everything goes back into the soil as it should.
And of course we can produce enough food for everyone everywhere.
The same for clothes,
Homes,
Everything we actually need.
However not the things we think that we need for happiness.
And we don't have to create anymore bullshit jobs but create joyful opportunities for people to experience meaning through supporting their communities with the necessities of a good life.
And why not give everyone a basic income?
Why not share the imaginary money that we are all creating equally instead of funding these imaginary money to the ultra rich and give the leftovers to the sick and poor if they stand in line and do as society tells them to.
Of course we can do all of this if we really want to.
We could go to the moon,
We could cross the oceans,
Build skyscrapers with hundreds of floors and the voice of a skeptic tells you we can't even share with our human brothers and sisters.
Everything is possible here.
While we are soaring the sky with our expanded mind and this vision we can ask all the big questions to the spirit,
To the source,
Creator of our mind,
Our soul,
Our planet.
One of the first things I asked myself in this deep contemplation was how did God become a he,
A lord,
A ruling god,
A kind of grandfather figure living on top of the clouds,
A judging god deciding who is worthy or not,
Who has sinned and who has not.
History made me see how.
It was us humans who created this god in the image of our civilizations at the time.
Civilizations that were the first empires with a king on the top,
An emperor who chose who could live or die,
Who had sinned and who had done good deeds and was worthy to rise in ranks,
To be elevated and enjoy wealth at the top as a noble.
And above the head of the king came the patriarchal god,
The lord that judges us,
Sees everything we do and a god that is giving us the heavenly right to dominate other living beings.
How convenient,
A very powerful tool in the hands of any emperor.
But here we are soaring on the wings of hope,
Looking down on the gorgeous earth and why not create another image of God,
A true god of our hearts,
An image of friendship,
Of kinship with all beings,
Where there is room for both him and her,
God that is no man,
No all father in the clouds and god that is neither no woman,
No guy or earth mother,
God that is divinity found in all things,
Living or dead,
Gray or colorful.
A divinity that we can inhale every breath,
Spirit that can fill us,
Inspire us so that the cup in our hearts can overflow and in this dreaming that we are in right now,
I would like to ask you about your dreams,
Your visions,
What do you see from the eagle eyes with your ancestors and the stars in your back when you look down on planet earth.
You might have noticed that I talk a lot about the crazy gigantic problems in the world in this course,
But I don't talk that much about the solutions,
That's because I don't really know,
I have no clue how we are going to get out of this mess,
I have a hard time enough just figuring out my own life situation on a day to day basis,
But I do believe however is that all of us together can become this solution,
All of us carry a piece of the puzzle of paradise earth.
So what is your piece?
What is your dream?
Why do you really wake up in the morning?
Why do you rise from your bed?
If you are not living in your own dream,
You are likely living in someone else's.
So what is so magnificent,
So beautiful,
So full of passion and meaning that you cannot not do it?
A dream so strong you cannot not pursue it?
These questions can lead you to your ikigai,
Your reason for living.
The word comes from the Japanese island of Okinawa and its indigenous people,
The Okinawans,
A people who were oppressed by the Japanese empire for hundreds of years and at the end of the second world war the US built a naval base on the island,
A military base which still remains there and greatly disturbs the Okinawan way of life.
Unfortunately the story of empire can be found all around earth,
But so can our ikigai,
So can our rebellion be found.
Even if it seems hopeless,
We will continue,
We will work for this dream,
You,
Me and so many more.
Let us end with this story from the descendants of the Aztecs of Mexico.
Among the Aztec people it is said that a long time ago there was a great fire in the forests that covered our earth.
People and animals started to run,
Trying to escape from the fire.
Our brother Oll,
Tecalot was flying away when he noticed a small bird hurrying back and forth between the nearest river and the fire.
He headed towards this small bird.
He noticed that it was our brother the Quetzal bird.
Quetzal Toto was flying to the river picking up small drops of water in his tiny beak then returning to the fire to throw that tiny bit of water on the flame.
The Oll approached the Quetzal bird and yelled at him,
What are you doing brother?
He is stupid.
You are not going to achieve anything by doing this.
What are you trying to do?
You can't extinguish this fire.
You have to fly away and save yourself.
The Quetzal bird stopped for a moment and looked at the Oll and then answered,
I am doing the best I can with what I have.
It is remembered by the grandparents that a long time ago the forest that covered our earth was saved from a great fire by a small Quetzal bird and Oll and many other animals and people who got together to put out the fire.

Love the story about the quetzal bird. If each of us fought back against helplessness and did what we could, imagine what could be accomplished.
