In this practice we think about simplicity and how powerful it is. Just because something is simple, it does not mean it is easy. Being kind is simple but having kindness as the central point of our thoughts and actions can be very difficult. By allowing yourself to feel the simple power of an open heart, it can change your life. This peacebeam can be used individually or as one day of the Begin Bright series.

Hi,

Welcome to Peacebeam.

Let's begin.

Step one,

Notice.

Just begin to notice how you're feeling today.

What's your emotional state?

What's your mood?

How does it feel in your body?

And if you can find any obvious tension in your face or your neck,

Maybe your hands and feet,

Just take a breath and let that go.

Step two,

Breathe.

Just begin to watch your breath.

Tune to the natural rhythm of your breathing,

Your inhale and your exhale and just be here for a few moments,

Watching and breathing.

And now we're going to weave your breath together with your heartbeats.

So imagine your breath now moving in and out through your heart.

Just picture your steady inhale and your steady exhale uniting with the beats of your heart and feel that ease arrive.

Step three,

Activate.

Our world loves complexity.

We have a bias towards and a kind of a reverence for the complex and the difficult.

The age of reason brought us complex ideas,

Processes and systems that are still with us.

And we have a natural inclination to believe that if we can't understand something intellectually,

It must have authority.

And in fact,

Whole professions rely on this curious quirk of our nature.

And strangely,

We don't have the same reverence for simplicity because we tend to equate it with being easy.

But simple things are not necessarily easy.

To be kind is a simple thing,

But it is not an easy thing to make it your way of life.

To make a simple thing like kindness central to every thought,

Every word,

And every action requires the mastery and the exquisite simplicity of our hearts,

Which is far beyond the complex imaginings of the mind.

But here is the thing.

This simplicity,

This mastery is available to you in every moment of your life.

It just requires your heart to be open and for your mind and body to learn to respond to its promptings.

And this is what you have been practicing as part of this new beginning,

The simple beauty of a powerful and open heart.

It will change your world.

Step four,

Beam.

So feel the simplicity of your heart,

Its wisdom,

Its kindness,

Every beat a witness to its beauty and power.

And let yourself light up and beam your uniquely beautiful kindness and heart into the world with every thought,

Every word and every action today.

Have a beautiful day.

Thank you๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐ŸปWednesday, as I was preparing for a transatlantic flight, I did not see your daily peacebeam, and missed it. Yesterday, still in transit. Today, amidst the jet lag, what better way than to focus on the simplicity of the heart?! Thanks for your ongoing input๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Thank you - again! Peacebeams are a perfect example of simplicity. I have been meditating regularly for years and am often asked if it is โ€˜easyโ€™. Yes, it is, if you donโ€™t try too hard. Observing the simple breath in and the simple breath out is all you need and using the heart space is a very calming and nurturing method. The wise words in the โ€˜activateโ€™ sections are perfect for a few minutes contemplation during your meditation and then to refer back to throughout the rest of the day (and life!). Just a thought - wouldnโ€™t it be wonderful if Peacebeams were added to the school curriculum? Namaste ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ
