Awaken Creative,
We are at week 24.
I don't know about you,
But this one year has taken me on quite a journey.
I've fallen into something that has always been there,
But I'm constantly letting go of,
Thinking I need to seek out a way with my brain,
With my mind,
With this world's prescription for success.
In this one year,
In this initiation start year,
Year of the firehorse,
We're visiting a biblical verse to check out what it means to live simply,
Purely,
From a place that is our own.
Let's dig in.
Good morning,
Awaken Creative.
How many times have you lost yourself?
How many times have you gained yourself?
How many times have you followed another,
Only to turn around and realize you're not on your own path?
How many times have you sought someone else's courage as your own?
How many times have you picked up your strength and re-owned your way?
An artist's path is not an easy one,
But there's something magical about it that no other course of life allows.
The path of a creative,
The path of an artist in this earthly life,
Has one gift beyond that of any other,
And that is simplicity.
It takes a lot to stay this course.
We become confused by the ways in which society and culture and humankind have evolved to teach the complexity of life,
As if these complexities were a system we had to trod through.
The artist,
The artist in order to do the work that they or soul is here to do in this body needs only one system at play.
That is the purity of connection,
From unconscious to conscious,
From divine to human,
From soul to hand.
The processing system of the world would have you believe the brain,
The mind,
Is in charge.
But you know,
Awake and creative,
You know the true and honest and trustworthy processing system of this body we are in,
Is that of the heart.
This soul place,
This heart place,
This is to what we return to,
Each time we follow a world's command,
And each time we return,
We're brighter,
We're clearer,
We're simpler.
And for that,
We have so much to offer,
Our own lives,
And the places in which we intermesh with this world.
Today's verse takes us to the Bible.
It speaks to this,
In which I'm referring,
This being drawn off course and returning.
I find the true beauty of this verse exists in its indefatigable applicability over time and history.
You certainly needn't be a practitioner of the Bible to hear these words and know that they are true.
When we as artists and creatives can return to this source for ourselves,
The source of truth that is our gut,
We are living out the sense that this verse is trying to imply more deeply,
Honestly,
Into the world in our lives.
Luke 9,
24,
25 Whoever would save their life must first lose it,
And whoever loses their life will find it.
What profit do they show who gains the whole world,
Yet destroys themself in the process?
Can you see it,
Artist?
Can you hear it and feel it?
How many times have you followed a way,
Only to turn around and begin again?
How many times have you said,
This is it?
How many times have you listened to the world,
Only to realize you've lost your way?
How many times have you returned,
Chosen to turn back to the course you know is yours and realize you've once again found your life?
I don't think we get to decide what gain is in our life.
But I think we can trust that when we are walking our course,
When the simplicity of our path is pure,
That we find everything.
Awaken Creative today.
