Welcome to this meditation centered on awareness.
Many of the times we try to meditate we worry and get concerned about the thoughts going through our mind.
We think we're not doing it right because the thoughts just keep coming.
Let's take a moment to look into this.
So get comfortable and sit in a relaxed position.
Take three deep breaths one after another and close your eyes.
Most of the time we attach completely to the thoughts pop into our mind and we get stressed and feel like we're not doing something right when we can't stop that constant chatter.
Let's take a look at what's creating that constant chatter.
Are you creating those thoughts or did they just appear?
Did they just happen?
We can end up blaming ourselves for something we often have little control of.
Our awareness,
Despite what many may think,
Is always on.
We are always aware.
Even while we're driving along and our mind wanders to that next thing to do,
The item on the shopping list we don't want to forget.
Part of our awareness is still focused on driving.
Part of it is offloaded into our subconscious mind.
Yet our conscious part of awareness is focused on the thoughts that pop into our mind.
So even when we sleep and we lose our conscious awareness,
Our subconscious mind still has a portion of that awareness and it will wake you up if there's a big loud noise in the room.
But the main part of our awareness,
Conscious part,
Fades away and its focus is taken somewhere else.
Somewhere outside of our normal everyday senses.
Now when we wake we're very much aware of the passing of time.
Yet we know we were not consciously aware with our senses and our nervous system.
But we can recall where did our conscious mind go.
Some may say it turned off.
But our experience shows our awareness is always on.
Even in some portion or another.
Our mind is very adept at generating thoughts to which our awareness attaches to and identifies.
And it captures that awareness and focuses on the world around us through our perceptions and then the thoughts that that generate.
For this meditation we'll take a step back and we're going to allow ourselves 20 minutes where our focus,
Our awareness will set itself free from the thoughts running through our mind.
We give ourselves permission to put down those thoughts for the next 20 minutes.
And we'll pick them up at the end.
But for the moment,
Now,
To take our awareness and consciously focus it elsewhere.
We choose to focus it away from our body.
We choose to focus it away from our mind.
So as we go deep into this meditation,
I want you to focus your breathing on the chime from the singing bowl.
Taking a breath in and then out every six seconds.
And you can invest a small portion of that awareness and hand that off to your subconscious mind.
But if you find that thoughts do crop in,
Bring them back to the sound of the chimes and re-synchronize your breathing.
As we take our focus away from the mind,
We'll scan gently up our body to release any stored tension.
We can take our awareness clearly away from our body.
As you focus on the tips of your toes,
Draw that awareness slowly over,
Relaxing the soles,
Your ankles and heels.
Moving up to your calves and shins as all the tension drifts away.
Up to your knees and thighs as that tension melts away,
Allowing you to forget for just a moment these parts of your body even exist.
And as we draw up through our hips and groin,
We release any tension there within.
Over to our abdomen and chest,
Up our back and spine,
Over our heart and lungs as all the tension simply drifts away.
Any tension in your fingers washes away like a wave as that awareness focuses on moving that relaxing energy up the forearms,
Through your elbows,
Over your upper arms and biceps,
Joining with the rest of the body at the shoulders and that relaxing wave that's moving up over your back and spine.
Massaging that shoulder,
Releasing all of the tension,
Allowing those neck muscles to completely relax.
Moving up to the back of the head,
Feeling your jaw muscles go limp at the same time,
As that relaxing wave of energy passes up over your lips and mouth,
Up over your nose and ears,
Feeling all those facial muscles and your cheeks completely melt away.
The back of your head and scalp begins to release all of its tension as that relaxing wave passes up over your eyes,
Past your eyebrows and forehead,
Culminating in the crown of your head,
Dispersing any tension off into space around.
And now our body is completely relaxed,
We agree to diverge our awareness completely away from it,
There's no need to worry about the time,
I'll take care of that.
As you let your mind completely and utterly relax,
Let go of all thoughts,
All awareness from your body's senses.
You allow your perceptions to be completely taken over by your subconscious mind,
Freeing your conscious mind to take your awareness completely,
Feel into that awareness,
Feel where it takes you,
Feel the silence,
The total lack of signals through your nervous system,
In your mind or body,
Becomes meaningless,
There is no past,
There is no future,
There is only now,
Feel the peace at the same time,
You can't even imagine,
With no body,
In no space,
In no time,
Always remembering this beautiful state,
Quite so seriously,
As we're all in the playground of awareness,
And seeing what's possible in an endless world of consciousness,
From this endless place we choose to return in,
And our body,
Carrying this pure peace,
This harmonious nature,
Knowing it's always there,
You begin to feel sensations returning back into your body,
Taking a deep breath in and a deep breath out,
Allowing that peaceful nature to wash over every part of you,
As you begin to wiggle your fingers and toes,
And slowly return your awareness back to the perceptions of your body and mind,
Welcome back to this reality,
Always remembering,
As your body finally stirs,
You begin to open and flutter your eyes,
Blinking a few times,
And becoming fully aware once more.
