Welcome to this guided meditation focused on attachment.

Make sure you're sitting in a nice comfortable position where you can calmly relax for the next 30 minutes.

As we get started,

Let's take in 3 deep breaths into our body.

Letting our chest completely rise,

Expanding our diaphragm and then fall back once again.

With our breath,

We take in the energy of life itself into our bodies.

Being grateful for the energizing force behind that breath.

Releasing once again.

Then lastly,

One more deep breath,

Fully filling your lungs and then releasing and relaxing.

Throughout our life,

We go through the events,

The happenings of all the different circumstances,

The people,

The places,

The objects,

The things that life has for us.

As we go through our experience of life,

We begin to attach our identity,

Our sense of being to these things.

It's quite natural for us to take on board ideas and concepts and make it part of us,

For it to become part of our belief system.

As we attach more and more as we go through life,

We can often find it harder and harder to experience those joyful moments because the more attachments we have,

The more we offload our identity into external things in the world.

It's very normal for us to attach to different labels such as man,

Woman,

Boy,

Girl,

Old,

Middle aged,

Young.

Even our countries,

Our local towns and the type of work we do,

Our hobbies and interests.

Every single possible word that we can use on a daily basis has the potential to form these attachments to our identity.

What can happen when we have these deep attachments to our own sense of well-being and our own sense of identity.

That when something happens that we don't like,

To these things,

To these labels,

It can affect us because we've chosen to attach to them even if it is at a subconscious level.

Imagine for a moment walking down a street and a passerby makes a simple comment about your appearance.

We can either take that comment as a compliment or an insult based upon the rules of our identity.

They might like our outfit or perhaps they say we're overweight.

They might comment about our height,

Our skin colour.

It could be a reference to almost anything and yet because we've attached to these ideas of what we are,

The hurt and upset or the pleasure we can receive from that comes along with that identity.

Imagine you are hosting a dinner party for a group of friends.

One of those friends turns up a little bit tipsy,

Starts causing a bit of a problem,

Maybe accidentally puts his hand in the lovely cake that you baked for dessert.

Now we see the attachment to the idea that it was your party and your cake that you made is the thing that's going to potentially cause a hurt and upset.

If that was your party and someone acted that way,

It's very easy to see how the host would get really upset with that.

But if we take a step back and pretend we're one of the guests,

Suddenly the situation's not quite as dramatic and it might even be funny.

But at the same time,

We might feel sorry and upset that the host of the party has had to experience that.

The more and more that we attach to these labels as part of who we really are,

The more and more we have to rely on changes in our outside world to make us feel happy or sad,

Angry or peaceful.

And the more and more we feel we need to control that outside world,

Rather than simply let it be.

The true joy,

The true happiness can be found when we let go of any identity and just experience the moment.

When there's no attachment to the things,

The ideas and we can simply enjoy the experience of life unfolding.

So now,

Let's take a moment to see if we can go deeper,

If we can choose to let go of many of these attachments and labels to get to the true source,

The true nature of our being.

You allow the sound of the chime to help synchronise your breathing,

Allowing your heart and brain,

Sending a deep signal that you're safe and it's okay to relax.

With each breath we take inwards,

We feel our chest writhe of all that spent air blowing out of us.

You need to imagine yourself lying in a grassy field on a warm summer's day,

With your back against the ground and you're looking up into the sky.

And as you lay there,

You see the clouds slowly passing overhead.

And with each breath,

The clouds move slowly overhead,

Taking that beautiful invigorating air deep into your body,

Completely and totally relaxing all of your limbs,

Your feet,

Your hands,

Every part of your body.

And with the out breath,

Feeling all the stress leave your body,

Floating up into the clouds as they gently blow away,

Feeling the grounding,

Soothing effect as the grass and the air simply melt away.

As you're in deep contact with all of nature around you,

And as we let our mind move deeply to the feelings and emotions within our body,

We look at all the things we have in our life,

We feel belong to us,

All of the memories of our past,

We call our own,

To gently seep away,

Out of our head.

Being held by mother earth,

And we see the labels we choose to make on our being,

Slowly rise out of our body.

And each one of them,

Forms a white wispy cloud,

Rises into the sky,

And as more and more of our attachments into the sky,

We gently release any hold they may have over us,

Any attachment,

The tethers of the clouds,

Gently pinging away from our body,

As they release themselves high into the sky,

And as all that we are,

Floats away,

We feel a gentle breeze,

Feeling the grass around our head rustle,

And as our attention is briefly taken away,

To the wind over the grass,

We see the clouds moving away now,

All those labels,

All those attachments,

And if there's any left,

Still attached to us,

As they fly further and further away,

Binds them to us,

Gently pulls away from us anchor,

And we watch and observe,

As it all flies out of our vision,

Leaving a completely empty sky,

And now we feel into this sky,

This beautiful canvas,

Completely clear,

We feel the body's relief,

A sense of complete joy,

As we experience this beautiful moment,

Of just beingness,

There's nothing left,

And we notice a ghost like form,

Begins to rise out,

As it floats up,

As we leave behind,

For the moment,

Feeling our attachment to our physical body,

And our wispy nature,

Floats up into a beautiful blue sunlit sky,

And we feel how that wispy form,

Moves effortlessly,

With the ebbs and flows of the wind,

Our life all around us,

Simply is,

And with a gentle breeze,

We move perfectly,

In time with the wind,

With no resistance,

With no attachments,

And no identity,

We can flow effortlessly,

As we please,

And from this height,

Looking down to the ground,

All of the events of the world,

Unfolding beneath us,

And just like,

The lance,

Moving below us,

All of the events of life itself,

With no resistance from us at all,

We become that pure awareness,

Observing all,

The I am,

You know you exist,

You are aware,

And you know you are aware,

And from this pure state of identity,

This simple beingness,

We can see how things are so beautiful,

In this world,

And if we just allow,

Experiences to come and go,

How joyful and peaceful we can be,

In this state of pure awareness and observation,

Experiencing all that life has,

Without the need to make it part of ourselves,

Just feel,

And from this state,

Floating in the sky,

Start to sink back,

Into our body,

And as we do,

We feel the lightness,

That we are right now,

And the knowingness,

That we can carry this with us,

Throughout our life,

And hear the gentle chime,

In the background,

Calling us back,

Into our body,

As our wispy form,

Overlays itself,

Into that physical body,

Lying peacefully in the grass,

Feeling our breathing,

Synchronising once more,

And as we start to feel sensations,

We can choose,

And decide,

How deeply we wish to attach,

To any of the identities,

And the ideas,

We wish to see turn into the sky,

And notice,

They are a little bit thinner,

Than before,

Knowing we can let them go,

At least for a time,

Whenever we choose,

And as we feel everything,

Drawing back towards the body,

And take a deeper breath,

A sensation returns to our fingers and toes,

To our arms and legs,

To all of our body,

As our awareness returns back to where we are,

As we sit back up,

On the grassy field,

Feeling the chimes,

Even stronger now,

As we return back in the form,

4,

3,

2,

1,

Welcome back,

To the world,

A little bit lighter,

Namaste.
