Hi,

This is Orit Krug,

Board certified dance movement therapist and trauma and relationship expert.

Today,

I would love to guide you through a movement-based meditation on how to feel safe to love after trauma.

It can feel so scary to let down your guard and open your heart after you've been hurt,

Abandoned or rejected in the past,

Even if you're with a loving,

Safe,

Supportive partner today.

To begin,

Find yourself in a comfortable position.

You can lie down,

Stay seated or stand up for this experience.

And once you find a comfortable position,

We're going to take three deep breaths together.

Breathing in and breathing out.

Again,

Breathing in and breathing out.

One last time,

Breathing in and breathing out.

I'm going to invite you now to close your eyes or lower your gaze and imagine or visualize a version of you that feels totally safe to love no matter what you've been through or experienced in the past.

Imagine that you have healed all of that and moved forward from all of that.

And now you embody this version of you that truly believes and feels that it is safe to love today.

You may see this version of you through a video playing back for you in your mind.

You may envision that this version of you is standing in front of you or across from you.

Whichever way you see yourself,

I'd like for you to focus on the way that you see this version of you holding yourself in your body and moving your body.

Perhaps you see that you're walking a certain way that you didn't before or you notice something different in the way that you gesture,

Perhaps the way you reach out or make physical contact with yourself or simply in the way that you hold your body and your posture.

What do you notice about the way that you're in your body and moving your body as this version of you who feels totally safe to love?

There's no right or wrong here and you can follow your imagination wherever it goes.

And as you're imagining this,

I'm now going to invite you to invite organic movement into your body.

So how does your body naturally want to move this visualization?

How can you start giving your body a real life taste of this version of you?

For example,

If you envision that you walk with more of a bounce in your step,

Perhaps you saw your head was held up higher,

Your chest was more open.

You can get up on your two feet right now and try walking in this different way.

If you imagined that your gestures would be more gentle and less aggressive,

You might just try that on in this moment.

Don't get too caught up in trying to replicate the exact thing that you saw,

The exact movements that you saw in your visualization,

Because it doesn't really matter if you repeat them exactly as you saw them.

This is more about bringing the essence and the quality of the way that you saw yourself into your body.

So if you saw yourself taking up more space,

You can try that in whatever way that you like through your body right now.

You can make bigger movements.

You can walk more around your space,

Taking up the whole room instead of just staying in one spot.

If you saw that your movements,

Your gestures were gentler,

You may just try anything in your body that feels a little bit softer.

So it doesn't matter what the exact movements are.

Remember,

Try to just bring the quality and essence of what you saw and felt as you imagine this version of you that feels totally safe to love.

Allow these movements to naturally come up and you may find yourself repeating the same movements over and over again,

Or it's possible that your movements may develop into something else,

Something bigger,

Something smaller,

Something different.

There's no right or wrong way to do this.

Just try to follow your own body,

Your own movement,

And feel into this version of you who feels safe to love.

This practice right here is a crucial first step to actually believing in your whole body that it is safe to love,

That you can let your guard down and become intimate without sabotaging or feeling scared all the time that you might get hurt.

It's not enough to tell yourself in your mind that it's safe to love.

We must believe this in our bodies as well if we want to truly love and let love in.

Remember that you will have your own unique way of embodying this version of you.

It doesn't have to be gentle.

It can be more strong and powerful,

Making more sounds and impact against the floor,

Against the wall or other objects.

It could be tiny and small and just more hugging yourself,

Holding yourself,

Connected with yourself.

So I'm going to give you about a minute of space here for you to continue moving this version of you.

And at the end of the minute,

I will prompt you to gently slow down and eventually close.

If you find that in the next minute your mind is taking over and telling you what to do,

Remember to bring yourself back to your body and let your body guide you and lead you through this experience.

Whatever you're doing right now,

However you're moving,

I'm going to ask you now to gradually and slowly start bringing your movements to a close.

So instead of abruptly stopping,

I want to see this more as a deceleration slowly incrementally slowing down until you naturally reach a close.

Make your time with this because this kind of natural slow closure is another part of feeling safe to love.

You may find yourself naturally coming into an ending pose,

Whether you're holding yourself,

Maybe you bring yourself down to the floor,

Lying down,

Letting the earth support you,

Surrendering your weight,

Or maybe you find that you are standing up,

Standing up tall.

There's no right or wrong.

See where your body leads you and let's take a deep breath in together,

Breathing in and breathing out.

Gently open your eyes,

Look around your physical space,

And maybe make some physical contact with yourself to let your body know that you are right here,

Right now.

This turned out to release blocks of how I reviewed my body. Wow!! I was able to be sensual in my movements, and to feel good when softly and gently "rubbing" my skin in such a compassionate way. This is the first time in my whole entire life!!! First time being able to really enjoy the feeling of my own body underneath my hands..... Wow!
