A contemplative reading from 1 Corinthians 13. King James Version (KJV). Centering Prayer 1. Choose a sacred word as the symbol of your intention to consent to God’s presence and action within you. 2. Sitting comfortably and with eyes closed, settled briefly and silently introduce the sacred word as the symbol of your consent to God’s presence and action within. 3. When engaged with your thoughts, return ever-so-gently to the sacred word. (Normal flow in our consciousness-distractions) Don’t resist, let them go and tolerate. 4. At the end of the prayer period, remain in silence with eyes closed for a couple of minutes.

1 Corinthians 13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,

And have not charity,

I am become as a sounding brass,

Or a tinkling cymbal.

1 Corinthians 13 And though I have the gift of prophecy,

And understand all mysteries,

And all knowledge,

And though I have all faith,

So that I could remove mountains,

And have not charity,

I am nothing.

2 Corinthians 13 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor,

And though I give my body to be burned,

And have not charity,

It profiteth me nothing.

1 Corinthians 13 Charity suffereth long,

And is kind.

Charity envieth not.

Charity vaunteth not itself,

Is not puffed up.

1 Corinthians 13 It doth not behave itself unseemly,

Seeketh not her own,

Is not easily provoked,

Thinketh no evil.

1 Corinthians 13 Rejoiceth not in iniquity,

But rejoiceth in the truth.

1 Corinthians 13 Beareth all things,

Believeth all things,

Hopeth all things,

Endureth all things.

1 Corinthians 13 Charity never faileth,

But whether there be prophecies,

They shall fail.

Whether there be tongues,

They shall cease.

Whether there be knowledge,

It shall vanish away.

1 Corinthians 13 For we know in part,

And we prophesy in part.

1 Corinthians 13 But when that which is perfect is come,

That which is in part shall be done away.

1 Corinthians 13 When I was a child,

I spake as a child,

I understood as a child,

I thought as a child.

But when I became a man,

I put away childish things.

1 Corinthians 13 For now we see through a glass darkly,

But then face to face.

Now I know in part,

But then shall I know even as also I am known.

1 Corinthians 13 And now abideth faith,

Hope,

And charity,

These three.

But the greatest of these is charity.

1 Corinthians 13 May the love of Christ guide you on your journey.

Amen.

Amen.

I'm used to hearing this passage with the word love instead of charity. This meditation helped me to make the connection between love and charity. That charity is love. Thank you.

Beautiful passage of scripture to meditate on. While I no longer use the KJV as my "go to" translation, I think it can be good to hear very familiar verses in different words. I feel like I "tune in" a bit more. Thanks and blessings Ryan

Thank you very much! All your meditations are my favorites. Could you, please, create one more for me? The meditation about loving God and loving each other. Something that would express my deep love for God. Thank you! Gratefully, Dilya.

I love these centering prayers that simply give time to reflect on God’s Word! Beautiful music, lovely amount of time to pause and dwell on each verse. (Someday it would be nice if you might make these meditations in a different version of the Scripture as well ☺️)

It's a beautiful reading. I feel it would be even more powerful with a translation using love instead of charity.

A powerful reminder that it's not only what we say but how we say it. And also to understand the importance of living life well and in service to others.
