Transcript

This is a short breathing technique which is very helpful for instantly reducing feelings of anger,

Anxiety and tension.

This practice is called the hummingbird breath or the bee breath.

This is due to the sound made during the practice.

The sound is soothing for a busy mind and the practice extends the exhale which reduces the fight-flight response by calming the sympathetic nervous system which can help you relax.

You do this practice by inhaling through the nostrils and then on the exhale you make the sound mmm which is a humming sound,

Thus the sound of the bee or the hummingbird.

You continue with the sound until you need to inhale again.

The longer you can sustain the humming exhalation the more relaxing it will be but don't force this.

If you try to extend it past your capacity it will have the opposite effect.

Your body will think it is not going to get another breath it will see this is a potential danger and it will cause you to feel stress.

Therefore do only what is comfortable for you.

You might find that this naturally extends the longer you practice but just don't force this allow it to be however it is for now.

You inhale deeply through the nostrils and then block both ears with your fingers whilst exhaling and making the humming sound.

When you are ready you take your next inhale and you continue.

You can keep your ears blocked the whole time through the inhale and the exhale.

I will demonstrate the first breath and then we'll hold the silence for a few moments for you to continue your own practice.

And now you try.

All right.
