Hello and welcome to this talk about trusting yourself.

My name is Nikki Shearer-Burn and I'm a real life diva.

I'm actually a singer my whole life and I've written a book called The Diva Principles.

This talk that I'm about to share with you is an excerpt from that book.

It's chapter one.

A diva trusts herself above all else.

You are God.

Call it love,

Life force,

Consciousness.

If you are listening to this talk,

You probably have a sense of this by now.

My job is not to convince you.

If you are skeptical,

Ask yourself,

What is it that makes a heartbeat?

What turns embryos into babies and acorns into oak trees without us having to do anything to help it?

A diva trusts herself.

In other words,

You trust love or God.

Whatever it is that turned you into a baby and then an adult that makes your heart beat,

That part of you is the part to trust.

But it's easier said than done.

Most people have made it their habit to listen to the voices in their heads that are not very helpful.

Low quality thinking.

I call this voice Bob Borracho or Bob the drunk guy.

Everyone has a Bob.

He's the fun guy at a party or on the street who likes to waste your time talking rubbish.

He's alluring,

Addictive and even seductive.

And we as humans love to hang out with Bob.

We spent hours with him in the shower when he's convincing us not to do the thing that excited us only 30 minutes ago.

Often days go by where we're so engaged with Bob,

We don't even realize it.

Get ready for the first and most important diva secret.

You get to choose which thoughts to focus on and the thoughts you choose on a regular basis have a direct result on how you feel,

Your health and wellbeing and what you create in the world.

This is your God given gift of free will.

The best part about this is you can choose helpful thoughts and you can make this your habit.

Bob is what you might call conditioning or just unhelpful thoughts.

Those thoughts are usually fearful and they make us feel bad.

If you spend a long period of time focused on this kind of thinking,

It can actually affect your body and even make you sick.

You are divinely engineered for wellbeing and there are alarm bells and indicators that signal to you to do anything to feel better.

In fact,

Everyone is always just trying to feel better.

That's why people spend so much time and money on self care,

Medical care and even healing and therapy.

If you were to put your hand on a hot stove,

You would not leave it there while you think about whether or not to remove it.

You instantly and automatically remove your hand so that you can feel better.

The pain is an alarm bell and no one has to tell you to remove your hand.

Start noticing your unique alarm bells.

Do you suffer from insomnia?

Is there an old wound that aches?

Perhaps you feel tension in your body.

Maybe your behavior changes as you start to lash out or snap at your family for no apparent reason.

All of these alarm bells are indicators telling us one thing that is the same for everyone.

They are telling you that you are using your thinking in an unhelpful way.

You are listening to Bob and Bob is making you feel and act badly or not act at all.

Your mind wants you to feel better,

But the habit that most of us are in is to go looking for solutions.

We try to think ourselves out of the problem.

We search for why we are snapping at our kids.

Maybe they are being naughty.

Maybe they need to be disciplined more.

Maybe I am a bad parent.

The solution is never in the same place as the problem.

You don't need to go into the thoughts to feel better.

In fact,

The complete opposite is true.

This is radically different to what the whole wellbeing industry is telling us to do.

There are so many methods being taught to go into the wound deeper and deeper,

To un-layer and unravel it,

To go into the shadow.

Therapy brings us back to our childhood traumas.

This is innocent.

We simply as a collective want to feel better.

And love doesn't live in fearful thinking.

Love is fresh,

New life force.

Love is in this moment.

When you notice an indicator,

Know that it is coming only from fearful thinking.

You don't need to analyze the thinking or even know what you are thinking.

Very often it can be unconscious.

Once you notice an indicator,

Do anything to step away from that thinking.

Take 10 deep breaths,

Go for a walk,

Sing your favorite song,

Watch a TV series,

Take a nap,

Dance,

Work.

As you create space and distance from the unhelpful thinking,

New fresh thinking will come through.

You will notice better ideas coming,

Ideas that come from wisdom that is of this moment.

Ideas from which you can create and be supported in creating from.

New opportunities show up where it looks like you had little or no choice before.

Synchronicities are everywhere.

Miracles happen.

Imagine you are in a glass elevator in the Empire State Building.

When you are caught up with low quality thinking,

You are on the lower floors.

You can't see anything above the buildings.

Your view is limited.

As you move away from the unhelpful thinking,

The glass elevator starts to go up 10 more floors than 20.

You begin to see over the buildings.

The elevator is brighter as the sky opens up and the sun shines through.

Over time,

As you notice your indicators and catch yourself in low quality thinking,

You start to create the habit of shifting away from the problem and you travel higher and higher in the glass elevator.

You reach floor 100 and you can only go higher and higher.

The glass elevator of consciousness is infinite.

As time goes on,

Every now and then you will get stuck in a thought storm and it feels as though you've dropped right down to the basement.

The alarm bells will be so loud.

But don't be fooled.

This is your divine engineering for well-being.

The alarm will be louder because life wants you to get back up to higher floors.

See these alarm bells as love letters from God telling you to get the heck out of there.

The time spent on lower floors will be less and less as your tolerance for these lower quality feelings becomes unbearable.

You will start to hang out in a much better feeling most of the time and as you do,

You will start to make better decisions and take inspired action from a place of divine wisdom.

Wisdom cleans up all messes.

Wisdom heals.

Wisdom is the life force that creates and this is why you don't need to have endless therapy,

Do shadow work or healing.

Those things are helpful and if your wisdom guides you to them,

By all means go for it.

But as you raise your consciousness,

You will start to have a profound sense of trust in yourself and your own wisdom.

Trust that there is nothing that you need to control or do to solve problems or create something new.

You are the diva or diva sitting in the back seat of the limousine,

Sipping champagne and taking in the sights,

Sounds and smells as the driver of life takes you to your desired destination.

Life just got simpler.

I like to keep a little book in my bag.

I call it my miracle book.

Whenever I create something good,

A synchronicity happens or things just fall into place almost as if by magic without me having to make a big effort,

I write it in my miracle book.

Over the years,

I've collected quite a number of these books full of miracles.

As I opened the first pages of my first book dated January 22nd,

I don't remember the year,

The miracles I wrote were,

The weather is amazing after so much rain.

I got three calls of people without any marketing other than reaching out to them while I was on the toilet.

People are swimming in the ocean for the first time in ages.

I didn't have to go shopping for my friend's birthday present.

It came to me.

If you choose to keep your own miracle book,

It is a powerful tool,

Not only to help you focus on the present moment in your day to day life and appreciate everything,

But it has an even more important use.

At the worst times when you feel like the elevator is dropped right down to the basement,

And Bob is so loud that you don't even realize he's there,

When you feel like nothing will ever work out for you again,

Pick up your miracle book and read a few pages.

This is your life,

Your evidence that living from your wisdom works and that you can trust yourself.

It is only Bob that is bending your ear and scaring you with old unhelpful thoughts.

Sometimes there is nothing you can do in that moment to feel better.

Sometimes it will feel like Bob just won't go away and you can't make him.

It's like asking the waves to stop crashing against the shore.

Just knowing where your experience is coming from is enough.

And then wait,

Wait and wait well.

Don't make decisions.

Don't act.

Go to bed,

Eat chocolate and binge watch a series if you must.

The weather will change all on its own.

You will find yourself back up on the higher floors of the elevator where the sun is shining and you have a clear view.

Over time,

You'll get used to doing this and you'll switch your default from scaring yourself with your own thinking to not allowing it to scare you.

You will trust yourself so much that you will take bigger risks even when the rest of the world and Bob are telling you not to do it.

And you will leave behind you all of the miracles,

The evidence that living in this way works for everybody.
